Here is DejaVu sans mono with hinting at FULL
(12pt 1080p)

you'll notice that the stems aren't one pixel thin as with the old freetype2 engine

it's proper

Here is the wiki article, but using DejaVu Sans

DejaVu Sans is notorious for having very strict and heavy hinting. Here is the font, using the 'hintfull' setting

It doesn't look spread out and retarded like it would with the old rendering engine

gotcha.
comparison 2.

I cannot understand how people give a shit about fonts. Unless you're using some hideous joke/specialized/garbage font that actually makes it hard to read anything, it's fucking fine, regardless of your "hinting"/"antialiasing" or other bullshit that makes very little to no difference unless you have your eyeballs an inch from the screen and comparing pixels.
>>
>>55469338
The big differences seem to be in the tittles and punctuation

I kinda agree with you. It's nice that it's being improved but only typography autists give a shit. Most on /g/ just use it because there isn't much else to argue about since every major OS is great in it's own rights.
>>
>>55469039
The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.

Font rendering is miles ahead on macOS.

I have this hd ready tv at home, and some time ago I was forced to use it as a monitor for my windows pc since the old one broke. It was horrible, I repaired the old one as fast as I could to end that shitshow.

Fast forward to now, I use that tv as a second display for my macbook to watch films. Then I decided to try and browse the internet on the tv, and it looked almost better than my laptop's screen!

Apple puts a lot of effort into everything about the aesthetic of their products.

Linux desktop and Apple laptop is truly the master race.

So does this mean I can get rid of the infinality patches?
>>
>>55469254
This looks like shit.
>>
Can we have a 2.6.3 vs 2.6.4 comparison?
>>
Hate me but, I actually like the default Windows font rendering. Good that freetype is now more aligned to that.
>>
Good.
Gamma correction for Cairo when? It's 2016 and Cairo still processes text in linear space with 2.0 gamma. Even KDE has fixed their shit.
>>
>dem fonts look good now on looniggs!!!
>not using infinality
>>
>>55470536
I meant 1.0 gamma, f*cking tablet keyboard.
>>
>>55470538
Infinality is now deprecated anon
>>
>>55470533
same senpai, i just use 'standard' (not cleartype) on an lcd
>>
>>55470554
No I use it with cleartype. Is standard not anti aliased at all? Disgusting
>>
>>55469039
what is this freetype 2.4? after compiling and installing from source i see no difference at all to 2.3 firefox/gedit/libreoffice.
>>
>>55470574
2.6.4* fuck me i even forgot the image

wow this is really good, but it's still a bit blurry though
>>
If infinality is truly deprecated, can someone update the wiki? I just set it up last night and I'm in love with it. What replaced it and what are its advantages?
