Might change when you finish your watch though.

Indeed. It'll join its older brother (pic related) in my increasingly Germanic collection. No more new watches for at least a year for me. The 556 is a beaut as well. Quite controversial though, since a lot of people believe it signals Sinn's betrayal of their tool watch heritage.

Looking to start saving up to buy a watch when I finish my Bachelors degree (2 years from now), anyone have any reccomendations? Thinking about maybe a Tudor Black Bay or a Nomos or something around that price range, or I might stretch for a Speedmaster or a used Explorer or something as well.
>>
>>55398226
I'd go for the speedy, but I'm biased. Explorer I is excellent as well. The tudor and nomos offerings are great, but if you'll be saving for two years, might as well go for broke.

>>
>>55397591
date apertures as a general rule are hideous and are only begrudgingly allowed for their function

exceptions include datejusts and day dates, which simply wouldn't be what they are without those complications. And they actually look okay.

Tudor princes are also allowed, and anything with a more complicated movement such as a triple date, moon phase or perpetual calender

the acceptable date aperture on anything else is at 3 o clock, or maybe 6 o clock for a date, and a 3 o clock for the abbreviated daydate you find on SKX's and sinn 104s. 6 o clock date and 12 o clock day is alright sometimes but make no mistake they are almost all eyesores.

never 4 or 5 o clock apertures by the way.

I may be autistic but you all know I am right

To the anon that was interested in my Alpha chrono, are you up for it?
it's still 60 bucks and I'll throw in the nato if you want. The little felt sleeve and warrenty card that it came with are included.
For anyone interested it's in good condition, movement is at ~+25 a day without regulation and the chronograph works/resets prefectly.
It does have a small crack on the acrylic, but you can just pop a new one in, it's a standard diameter.
Selling the watch because I'm moving and need to stay frugal.

Most seiko 5 are 37mm across and like 42mm tall. Which will fit most wrists but not the smallest male wrists.

You didn't mention price, but a 36mm Rolex Datejust, or 34mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual or Air King could work.

If you need to push down even farther, you could google for watches, particularly vintage "boys size" watches which are generally more like 30-32mm. They're bigger than women's watches, among the smallest male watches made.

The 5600 series (including g-lides and solar 5610s) fall short in many ways.

In fact I used a 5610 daily and thoroughly for the longest time before switching to the GD-350.

Also there are many cool solar 5610s, why did you have to choose the most normie option?

The 50001jf is the superior option if you like that kind of g-shock.

The gd-350 has the biggest battery in a g-shock yet, and you can turn the vibration off.

Also solar g-shocks need battery replacements eventually. The battery saves less energy as time passes. We're talking decades, though.

The design sort of harkens back to Seiko's 1970s offerings, which were the indisputable high water mark of watch design. Thie looks really cool, I just wish the ReCraft watches were smaller (like 40mm). Also the 7S26 is objectively worse than any movement Seiko was using in the 1970s, but at least it's decently reliable.

Serious question:

I'd like to get a Speedmaster someday, but the old ones look fucking grody with their hands and markers all flaked and faded and moldy looking. Since Omega fetishizes keeping the Speedmaster the same as it was in 1969, does that mean they also use the same self-destructing materials on the hands and face? When I see a Tudor, I see a watch worn by a man who's been in middle management for a decade and desperately wanted a Rolex... but knew his wife would hit the fucking roof if he committed to one when they still had mortgage payments on the 4-bedroom house, car payments on the Acura TLX and the Toyota Highlander, and all the various expenses associated with their ingrate kids. So he thinks "aha! I can still get what is basically a Rolex, just with an ETA movement. They're both 28,800 beats per hour so there really is no difference! In fact it's better than a Rolex so it will be cheaper to service and Charlotte won't leave me for the 27-year-old Brazilian across the street", and he happily signs for the black dial Tudor Style. Which, consequently, has the same white date wheel as his autistic nephew's Seiko SKX007.

Is this the best dive watch under 200?
I see literally no reason to get a ray or skx over this + save for a more luxury piece.
Not to mention you won't have to deal with any shit tier entry level movements.
>>
>>55419991
It's fucking massive but if you like it then go ahead.
>>
>>55419976
i wanted to try it out, and the slow rate at which i burn through a notebook makes the price meaningless.

I'm using a Midori notepad right now and i really like its paper quality, but i don't like the lack of lines.
>>
>>55420005
44mm (on a diver) is massive?
What kinda bitch wrists do you have dude?

There's plenty wrong with it.

You must be new here. Anyway, you know you're never going diving with that watch anyway.
>>

>Cheap hands
They look the same as the Rays or SKX's hands in terms of quality.
>Seconds hand
I've seen a few of the MDV 106 in person and only one of them was slightly off the markers.
Casio is pretty damn good about this.
>Souless quartz
Thats a pretty autistic thing to say and think man. Watches don't have souls period.

Not really. And if you want something more straight forward: lume quality. You're going to get strictly worse lume compounds than Seiko Lumibrite.

Why not just save for a GS diver at that price point?
>>55420096
Even an entry level Casio movement will last 10-20 years with no issue or maintenance needed other than a battery change every few years.
>>
>>55420200
10-20 years is not exactly impressive in terms of watch lifespans
>>
>>55419991
I recently picked one of these up just because I wanted a black watch in that style. I have a couple iso certified mechanical models, but I didn't feel like spending another $200-500 for another lower tier one in a different color. I would never plan on actually diving with it.
>>
>>55420243
>I would never plan on actually diving with it.
Why not?
It's been vetted as reliable for diving over on WUS

OK, OK, calm down Martin. You still have your copy of the @1M Wu Tang album and I'm sure your portfolio will come back after the Brexit hit last week. Make sure you don't go anywhere that your $30K Yacht Master might get stolen by the coloreds.
>>

Like I said, this or the Grand Divers. I guess I'll save some more.

That was basically is a Grand Seiko in terms of quality. It's also a long sold out limited edition. Lucky for you there is somebody selling one on WUS for only £3,400.

My point is that you get the Casio and save up for a good 1000-2000 cuckbuck diver.
I see people with all of these low end divers and it really confuses me.
Also for 40 bucks (Less somtimes) the finish is great.

I would literally murder to have a version of this in steel with a solid link bracelet.
What the actual fuck Casio
Seiko discontinued all their nice digitals as well, and they're impossible to find now.
Why the fuck am I even alive if I can't have a nice digital watch?
>>
>>55419976
Not him bit you can use more types of ink and the color is better because the ink dries slower, if that's important to you.
Also because fountain pens are boss

Any suggestions? I only know of Braun (really over-priced) and Ventura (look odd)

>>
>>55421831
I'm thinking Casio is not only thinking nobody will see the difference, they're also scared of making everyone's dream watch that would outsell every other model, and they happen to sell many others.
A higher quality model could be so successful it would kill their own business, though I'm thinking it wouldn't really be bought by anyone but watchfags to some extent.

If they make it steel cased, with 20mm lugs, a solid link bracelet and sapphire glass, they could bump the price enough to milk watchfags only without hurting the rest of their business, and make everyone happy.

But there's no sign of change, so I hope you like resin and tin can bracelets.

I'm not as sad because the modules are leagues above other digital watches, and while the materials are shit, they watches are cheap as fuck and comfy as hell; even the bracelet models.
I'm just sad that the 70's are over and I'll probably never own a luxury watch. The GW5000 is my closest bet and while it's probably the best watch ever made, it doesn't really look luxury like the Seiko Spirit models do.

Notice how the nato loops through the watch face for maximum AESTHETIC.

Well, the dial looks better from that angle, but the blue tint to your images is bothering me. You can see the more obviously fake one here >>5542222

Your bezel though, there's something about those where the edges are all wonky. Original/not rechromed ones are nice and crisp. Also because that bezel design is not original to that model, that alone raises a flag. If you replaced it, whatever.

Actually the bezel might be original and not redone too, just not a vintage example like my photo where the quality of the edges was better. Here is a clearly rechromed bezel for a quick example, you can see the smoother edges that accompany it.

The dial and bezel together, and your relume job I guess, just triggered me because of these typical but dubious practices.

My apologies.

The problem with high end g-shocks is that you look like a turboautist.

G-shocks excell with the colorful models, not so much when attempting to be elegant.

Has anyone in the US ever purchased from Page & Cooper? Their ex-VAT prices are a steal at the current good-boy-points to freedom bucks exchange rate, compared to US ADs or even asian ADs like Gnomon.
