Verizon shill here

Cannot give specifics but shit is going down next week. Tremendous change that will effect every single customer and drive huge incentive to switch.

Hold onto your butts.

Also general questions thread. I'll answer as honestly as I can without giving up my identity.

How big of news could you be sitting on as a retail employee? No offense but the fingers are generally the last to know, unless Verizon is magically giving up CDMA not much can change that wouldn't be retarded

How is this "change" going to affect users already in a contract?
>>
>>55387256
Nigga no. That is right now. We have offered that several times over the past few years. Right now we even have a $650 buyout program for getting you out of contract/device payment as well as a free 50'' Samsung TV if you get two S7's.

>>55387266
Let's not turn this random thread into a murder.

Ehhh...

It will make some people very happy. Others furious. The rest will be confused. Overall I expect mass influx of customers coming in for us to explain shit and getting false trouble shooting because of a new "feature".
>>
>>55387295
It is next week.

It will radically change how we handle upgrades, plan changes, and general network performance.

It will make some people happy because they are fools who like buzz words. It will make some people annoyed as fuck because we changed our stance on a very solid issue.

It will on the outside make us more appealing but in reality be a fustercuck if past changes are any indication.
>>
If they can't offer a plan to match or best T-Mobile's $30/month plan then I don't give a fuck.
>>
What kind of change? Tech wise, change to contract offerings/pricing scheme? I'm on Verizon right now with a family plan. While I hate the company, I get pretty good service.

Nothing really. A few new "features" that is inherently doomed to fail. Anyone smart enough to use it correctly won't need it or want it. Everyone else won't use it at all or come in complaining their shit is broke.

Let's just say the solutions I will be offering this week will not be the solutions I am offering next week. In almost every encounter that changes the account.

It covers little over half the country and is bleeding to death?

Look not every single individual person is going to benefit by going to Verizon over their current carrier. I don't deal with specifics or random tangents. If you got the coverage and speeds you're happy will then roll around and be as happy as a pig in shit. I deal with people every day that have been to other carriers and know the frustration of being on an inferior network.

I am not going to waste time trying to convert you. I have 3 other people waiting in line eager to buy.

You mean this?
http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/06/verizon-wireless-might-offer-rollover-data-and-slow-speed-unlimited-data/

Basically Verizon realized that they were in no way price competitive and decided to make changes to their data plans so people feel less like they're getting ripped off?

Unless this gets AT&T to offer unlimited data, it's not getting me to leave T-Mobile and my actually unlimited data (not talking about their 0 rating video services. I mean actually unlimited)

Using 10+ GB a month is normal for me.

FiOS is its own thing, considering the wireless picture used OP works for Verizon wireless and simply assumes that what everyone means when they say "verizon".

I am also a FiOS customer, you have nothing to worry about, the only things to look forward to are 10G-PON upgrades over the next few years (my area is slated for 2017) which will give me a free upgrade to 300/300mbps from my current 150/150mbps.

Nah they just charge you more. I have 15GB LTE data with AT&T, didn't have internet for a few days so I said fuck it and teathered my phone to use the LTE. Used up ~32GB and they charged like $115 in overage charges. It was all LTE speeds though.

Also because it was my first time ever going over my data limit they wiped all the overage charges from my bill without me even asking.

>>
>>55390779
Just because you have unlimited data carried over from an old plan doesnt mean you can just walk into any AT&T store and demand unlimited data.

I have 15GB shared data with my other lines and rollover data, pretty sure i had 3-5GB of rollover data that didn't get charged for when I went over, but everything after that was charged at like $10 or $15 per GB. And at full LTE speeds. Don't try and act like you know what the fuck my plan is.

Jesus you're a retard.

I think it has to do with the fact they gave me the desktop ONT model but I can't be sure. They still drilled holes into the wall and put this tiny desktop router in a giant plastic shell instead of just letting me keep it on my desk.

If it ever happens during the daytime I'm gonna figure out what's up. Besides that it's fantastic, even with that issue it's infinitely more stable than their DSL was in my area, the service used to drop when it rained, I don't even understand how that happens.
>>
>>55390871
That's weird, we have an ONT mounted by the AC unit outback, hole drilled into the wall in the basement where the router is. Then the house is wired for Coaxial so we have a range extender upstairs hooked up to coax, that provides wifi coverage for the upstairs of the house and gives 2 ethernet ports which I use one of them to connect to my 1gbps switch on my desk, which I then connect to my desktop.

I get 5ms ping and 150mbps, really cant complain.

You can't call it 4G in the U.S. because T-Mobile advertized 4G for their "super fast" HSPA+ network. So now every mobile operator has to differentiate between LTE 4G and 4G.

That said, here in Australia carriers often purposely misstated quantities of data.
Happened to me.

>With Optus at the time.
>Get message I've used all of my data.
>Call up and ask to buy more.
>"Jane" from India was glad to sell me an extra GB for $10.
>Monitor my usage until the end of my data period.
>All is good.
>Check my bill when it arrives.
>$290 for extra data usage.
>Thoroughly confused.
>Call up Optus and immediately get onto "Linda" from India.
>She tells me that they credited my account with the value for data at my plan rate for a GB.
>However, a GB at my plan rate was $X and when you finish with your packaged data your cost of data increases exponentially.
>Struggling to understand this plain faced bullshit, I was only able to decipher it after 20 minutes of conversing with "Linda".
>Eventually pull the "I want to speak to your supervisor" bullshit, even though I hate it.
>Phone call ends up being about 3 hours long before I get through enough people to negate these charges.
>Only get my charges negated by threatening to call the Ombudsman.

Tl;dr: Optus offered 1GB for $10, I paid $10, it turned out that Optus considered the definition of a Gigabyte to be up to interpretation and gave me 128MB.

Everyone always says this but here in Michigan the opposite is true. I hate AT&T as a company but I use their service through an MVNO because it's the only thing that works in the rural areas of northern Michigan where I go when I'm visiting family. It's because AT&T bought Cellular One/Dobson to gain that territory and Verizon inherited theirs from Alltel which was truly inferior.
>>
I was gonna make a thread for this question but this seems like a good place to ask instead:

I am currently on my parent's cell phone plan with AT&T. According to them they pay ~$40 a month for my line and 2GB data plan. I recently went to the AT&T store to sign a new contract and get a new phone and found out AT&T no longer subsidizes new phones with a 2 year contract, which basically means I either pay retail price for a new phone or slap my parents with an extra $30 a month to basically finance a fucking cell phone. Needless to say I balked because this is kind of a shitty business practice so I am looking at jumping ship to Verizon, which is offering the phone I want (S7 Edge) for $150 with a 2 year contract.

tl;dr sick of AT&T jewing, should I switch to Verizon?
>>
>>55394790
Shit, if they'd let us unlock the so-called flagship Turbo, I'd already be on Marshmallow. Fucking assholes issued an OTA firmware upgrade that secures it against Sunshine (the exploit used ultimately to unlock the Turbo) but DOESN'T completely secure it against all the Stagefright holes.

Verizon: It's the network, because you sure as fuck can't use their phones.

When you switch over to a pay per month for the phone your line price goes down to like $15 from $40. So it's $15+20-30 (depends on the phone you want) So it COULD be cheaper if you get a cheap ass phone, or it might be a bit more expensive if you want a good phone. The price range is $35-45 a month instead of $40. It's basically the same.

>>
>>55395952
It is inevitable.

>>55397810
Haven't used that one in awhile. Last I remember it is defunct. There was an upgrade code we used to take $100 off phones. I slung it to encourage tablet adds. Easy money until they retired it.

>>55398140
Contracts are finish for phones. We do the same thing where you pay for the phone month by month on device payment. The difference is we lower your line access, the cost of having the line on the plan, by $20 a month from $40. In the end it is actually cheaper then a 2 year agreement because you don't owe 40% of the phone upfront. We'd love you have you though.

Contracts are dead. Long live device payment. See better explanation above.

I mean you could give the hooker the TV as payment or something.

>>55400513
Yup. Basically the way I explain it is you have always paid this cost if not more with 2 year contracts. We are lowering the price of our service and no longer hiding the subsidized cost of the device in the monthly bill.

This is what our service costs.
This is what your phone costs.
If you bring your own phone, you still get a cheaper monthly bill. We are basically giving you the option to let us carry the cost of the device so you don't have too.

Can you prove I don't? :^) Nah but really do.

Honest.

>>55400573
I've been in the game a long time. First it was minutes, then texting, email, now data. Even if the network can easily handle the throughput. If we don't put a premium on some kind of commodity that users want to use there is no way to drive profits and fund expansion. Everyone already does unlimited minutes and texts and most even are beginning to get into free international calling.

Data is the last variable available to use as a carrot. So to answer your question, no. We are a business. Not a charity.
>>
>>55400652
Why not charge by speed, instead of amount?
>>
Why make a thread if you can't tell us?
>>
>>55400716
Because that wouldn't make us more money and would almost indeed cost us quite a bit as people simply pick the "low speed" options all the time. Or we'd get into that messy "fast at first and holy shit my phone is broke" throttling horseshit.

To switch to or from Verizon? Either way, I'm doing just fine with T-Mobile. T-Mobile is comfy and I refuse to use anything that isn't GSM.

Is Verizon moving to a pay-for-what-you-use model for billing?
Everything that OP is saying sounds like its a billing change.
>>
>>55387369
Unlimited full speed data will never happen again on Verizon.
>>
>>55401344
It is several things, not just one. It will make Verizon more competitive in the market without costing customers more money.

Better value overall, more flexibility.

But data doesnt cost anything and there is no limit to it its just your bargaining chip what are you gonna do when consumers realize you have been screwing them and charging them for something that has no value? Its already starting to happen with things like binge on eventually it will snap in peoples minds that they are being scammed

Then what will you do?
>>
>>55401971
>But data doesn't cost anything and there is no limit to it
Are you retarded anon? There is a finite amount of bandwidth available. Ask pretty much anyone who lives in a big city or on a shitty carrier. If everyone was given 100% unthrottled 4G speeds and unlimited data they could tether their home and other devices to the network would fucking crawl.

As to answer your question after ignoring the absurdity of it.

We'll find another carrot. Until we do expect data to be a premium resource.
>>

>tfw just switched to T-Mobile a week ago

>>
>>55397898
RingPlus, probably.
>>
>>55402010
The finite bandwidth is a lie cooked up as an excuse to have the carrot 8n the first place are you really this dense or is verizon really set to remian the most scummy over priced movile company?
>>
>>55402010
I lived in the Philippines before. The networks are able to withstand a lot more abuse than you think they can. Their data plans are more generous than ours for their poor/poverty tier prepaid subscribers and there's only ever a problem when there's a serious hack that leads to everyone zerg rushing the networks at once to torrent. The networks here are poorly managed/maintained.
>>
>>55402010
Fresh customer here. No previous phone.

I want to get an S7 edge. Am I fucked? Is the middle plan (~40 dollars or so) enough? What bonuses should I ask for? My good friend works at Verizon so is there any shit he could pull for me?
>>
>>55402010
>thinks data==bandwidth

absolute fucking retard
>>
>>55402340
S7 Edge is going to be $33 a month on device payment. The $45 plan is for 3gb so if that is your usage it should be fine. If you creep close or over it the overage fee is the same as just upgrading to the $60 6GB plan and doubling your data.

So it is as follows

>$45 for Unlimited Talk/Text and 3GB of Data
>$20 for the line access of 1 device
>$33 for the device payment of a S7

So factor $97 a month before taxes and an extra $11 if you want insurance.

Buddy won't be able to due much but bring in a pay stub and you might get a discount through your work. Most larger companies have some.
>>
>>55402394
Yeah, my work gives 18% off, which is nice.

Are there any special promos or anything for the S7 edge coming up? I plan on going in near the end of the month.

Also, how much bloatware is there on it and can I get rid of it?
>>
>>55387227

tmo is the way to go...
>>
>>55402429
dont know how to google?

maybe you are on the wrong board kiddo
>>
>>55402429
Promos are VR Headset for renews or 32 inch Samsung TV for new lines.

Ehhh not too much. Most of the Verizon stuff we upload can be taken off and is automatically put into a single space folder. About 1 full page I'd say.
>>
>>55402458
So I can get a 32" TV just for signing up?

>>55402453

>>55387227
Is it going to involve them re-lowering the price of my unlimited data and then leaving me the fuck alone about it?
>>
>>55403305
No. In fact unlimited increased another $20.

Stop running your apartment complex or business off our network. If you aren't you are over paying. That is the stand off we have now. Either someone is using 5 gigs and paying thrice what he needs too or someone is using 500 gigs and fucking it up for everyone.
>>
I don't understand. What's happening?

>>55387227

lol shit i work at a third party store and im sure i'll have to do my own research on this whole thing since we never get any real training or information, just a rep that stops in once a month to say hi

honestly never knew someone could still upgrade on unlimited data by doing device payment til a verizon tech support lady told me once

our phone ordering system is legit fucking garbage too. coded in india and support is in india, that alone causes so many problems.

our sales are amazing from time to time, especially the holidays, but the flow of phones is totally being controlled. cant get any iphone se's or anything other than s7's. no galaxy core primes really screws us over for people looking for a cheap phone.
>>
>>55403616

mmm 5gb (speed capped to edge afterward) 100minutes (0.10c/min afterward, never go over) and unlimited SMS for $30/mo, pepaid tmobile plan on an unlocked phone.

Ami doin it rite? I am very satisfied with it at the moment and the service isn't much worse than verizon unless i'm in bumfuck nowhere.
>>
It's fucking carryover data. Just like att was doing. And a shitty ass throttling tool that is going to make more retards come into my store thinking there shit is broken. 30% more data on plans and free Canada and Mexico on XL and above.

The only thing it's gonna do is bring more retards in
