also, electric cars aren't really emission free, they just offload their carbon footprint to powerplants, most of which still burn coal

don't get me wrong I'm all for advancement and enviro friendly shit but, I'd like for my advancements to move us forward, and our enviro friendly stuff to actually be enviro friendly

not to mention having your car turn into a useless lump of plastic and metal because you were parked too close to a transformer when it blew, is a bummer

It's more of an accent thing than actually mixing up the words. They're saying "ask", it just sounds like "axe." Though it's more common with people from the ghetto. Locally I've seen a series of commercials advertising 1-800-Ask-Gary and the spokeswoman there often sounds like she's saying "Axe", for example.

Eectric cars won't (don't) pay a fuel tax that pays for your roads. But they still contribute to the wear and tear of those roads. The more electric cars the worse the state of your roads.
Any taxes paid by electric cars for the power that goes into their batteries won't be ear-marked for road funds the way fuel tax is.
How adaptable is your state government?
>>
>>55309492
Tankers and trailers fuck up roads more than cars so once they're out the roads should last 20 times more which should counter the lack of the tax income.

Both are water intensive though, and alberta and most lithium mine sites are dry and remote.

Okay I will level with you
- A lithium battery is good for four years
- The same volume of gasoline is good for one or two hundred miles
- Lithium batteries are recyclable, which makes them virtually limitless.
- You will never stop having to make new oil pits to get more oil
- Considering the demand vs the amount available for both, lithium supply is virtually infinite and oil is liable to run out within centuries.
- Oil makes a shitload of greenhouse gases. Except for coal, all electric power sources are significantly cleaner than gasoline in terms of air pollution.
- Oil production may look "clean" when it's just pulled from oil wells, but making oil from tar sands is polluting as fuck, and fracking wastes a shitload of clean water on top of sullying the clean water in the area where it's done.
- Explosion engines require more maintenance

That's what your post made me think. Congrations.

The intense stupidity of this post and the number of average joe citizens who take it as fact gave me insight as to why we aren't using NPPs for almost all of our power. People are too dumb to realize the safeties in place 200% guarantee a Chernobyl will never happen, and think a fucked up Russian knock off reactor in the 1970s with zero working failsafes is comparable to something built today.

So many better energy solutions wasted thanks to the ignorance of the masses.

What's bad isn't that you have to mine a hole in the ground, you retards........
Here in Germany, we have a lot of lakes that are man-made, because we used to mine for goods, but after we were out of resources, we filled the hole up with water and now they're beautiful lakes, adored by many for recreational sports such as swimming, snorkeling, motorboating, fishing, etc.

What's bad about the oil is:
1. it's a very limited resource that we will run out of soon, this is the reason we're looking for alternatives in the first place
2. when you burn that shit, it rips a hole into the atmosphere of earth

I don't understand why hipster faggots defend their hybrids, and electric cars.

The materials to gather for the batteries do a lot of damage to land, and you have to use coal, or oil anyways to charge the battery. So, 2x the environmental damage. Ooo then, you gotta dispose of the battery after a couple years, unlike a standard engine that you can crush down, and recycle, you're stuck with a fucking toxic batter to rot away, and leak somewhere, and in 3rd world countries, that toxic acid will be right in our ocean waters, and unlike oil, it doesn't float.

Mining cause holes. Holes are not "environmental" problems. They can be filled up and reforested. You can't reforest a place covered in tar sands and you can't clean the water polluted by fracking.

>you have to use coal, or oil anyways to charge the battery.
Coal energy is very sparsely used in first world countries. Oil is a lot less polluting than gasoline. So is nuclear energy, hydroelectric power, wind power and solar power. You have to take the entire park of power sources in account, or you're just cherry picking.

> you gotta dispose of the battery after a couple years,
The batteries are recycled by facilities specialized in recycling car batteries.

Why are people who are so mind-bogglingly ignorant on the matter always actively taking the side of gasoline? Why are you so emotionally attached to this?

Jesus Christ, could you know less?
>>
>>55320701
It is the opposite of that. CO2, CH4 and other greenhouse gases are opaque in infrared range, thus they trap infrared radiation that would otherwise go in space(remember how ancient desert "refrigerators" work - they could reach freezing temperatures at night) and cool the earth down. Water vapor forms clouds that reflect sunlight back into space achieving the same result. So does ice by the way(which also traps greenhouse gases in clathrates). More greenhouse gases - more heat - less ice, which leads to more heat and greenhouse gases. I already cannot fathom how can Southern people tolerate that shit and it will only get worse.

>>55320934
CO2's main issue isn't even greenhouse effect, but the ocean acidification - oceans are the main "carbon sink" on the Earth - it holds in CO2 form, in living organisms and in carbonate form. Because of rising acidity ocean life already starts to suffer, carbonates dissolve and the remaining capacity decreases even faster. But this might be our salvation if we can prove iron seeding is safe in the long run.

even though the market is twisted through unnatural intervention it will still overcome everything. Eventually animal agriculture will be far more expensive and more of a luxury thus reducing use, thus reducing its negative effects. Eventually fossil fuels will become more and more expensive compared to renewable energy usage which is only getting cheaper and cheaper. Once renewable energy is just as expensive as fossil fuels thats when everything changes. This will all happen and it feels good to be on the right side of history

You said yourself that meat has more calories (and levels of some nutrients) overall.

1lb potatoes is 347 calories and mostly starch, potatoes are a dietary supplement
1lb of of bread from wheat is 1,194 calories and it is not recommended that you live off bread
Figures for beef, pork, and chicken are close to bread
Figures for beans are sky fucking high but you'll be malnourished if you live off beans but why the fuck wouldn't you mention beans

You are an extremist taking a moral position rather than a practical position that has jack shit to do with the effective use of limited resources like "fertile land"

And those bugs? Tragically easy to grow - and harvest! - indoors. Like on multi-story buildings. That's what I call efficient. And it eliminates the land-must-be-fertile problem altogether.

If you wanted to be ecological you would take the bus or a bike.
>>
>>55321746
if you wanted to be ecological you'd want a government that took every bit of metal and fuel put into manufacturing those buses and bikes and build a train

after that, you'd walk

The height of the migrant crisis was summer last year. How many more brown trash men, plumbers and janitors do you think appeared in Europe since then?

remove the incentive to move there is what i say. government intervention is the source of all problems. if they didn't have a monopoly of force they couldn't steal from productive people

Ebikes are a retarded concept. Cycling is one of the most (if not the most) efficient ways of muscle powered transportation, you don't need assistance unless you're old or an invalid. If you want to rely on an outside power source on your two wheeled vehicle you might as well get a motorcycle.
If anything, those are a much better idea, with protection from the elements, more comfortable seating and ability to maintain 40 km/h effortlessly on flat asphalt.
>>
>>55321947
Oh, that's easy. All we gotta do is kill all terrorists in the middle east.

Oh wait.

Yeah, but you guys forgot that one single american use more resources than a whole family in the third world.
>>
>>55321985
My town has a lot of up and down slopes and depending on the direction you want to take and the choice of roads you make, biking to any given place can be excruciating. Ifi I could, I'd get an ebike just so I can breeze up the slopes and I'd pedal the rest of the way.
>>
>>55322004
what do you mean? terrorist organizations may exist without government but be far smaller than they are today. they only exist because of government intervention in the first place, the us government created isis, al queda, most others. They gave them the weapons, the training, the equipment, everything.

>a bicycle is supposed to be 100% muscle-powered because i said so!!

or you slap on an electric motor and make it possible to travel long distances in a third of the time, while being less sweaty and still keeping it semi-healthy.
>>
>>55321985
Ebike = electric motorcycle, dingus

as if the emissions from a regular one weren't negligible
>>
>>55322056
Those exist for a reason. You know that all ebikes do is make you lug around additional 20 kg of battery and engine (including up those hills)?

>>55322162
get an electric scooter and stop pretending to ride a bike, fatty.
>long distances in a third of the time
What ebikes go 75 km/h?

And?

>It turns out there are actually people retarded enough to attach electric motors to pedal bikes

How is this retarded. You can lightly pedal and decrease the amount of electrical energy you need to store on the bike (read: battery size and motor size) by quite a lot without much effort.

do you actually mean motorcylce as in pic related? and you would seriously ride an electric powered version of those things on a highway at 70 mph? you realize electric motors are almost completely silent, right? it would be the ultimate suicide machine.

I live in a country where the roads are actually in really good condition, plus there are also a lot of special bicycle roads. Combine that with the fact that traffic in major cities is absolute hell, putting an electric motor on your bicycle becomes a really attractive alternative to every other form of transportation.

Uh... It's an engine. It helps you pedal. The weight is compensated by its functionality. Do you get the principle? Are car engines dead weight too?

That is a gearbox. Gearboxes don't have to have multiple ratios.
