>>
>>55257357
I was facing the same dilemma except for price comparison a 308 is more comparable to an HS7. I listened to both in store and it seemed to me the clarity of details across the spectrum came through in the HS7. People say it has not enough bass but if you do some source track vs mic'd up hs7 comparisons, it's almost exactly the same. Since I may one day produce some edm/might want to go nuts listening I will probably get the sub, but for now I own the HS7s and I'm pretty damn happy with them.
>>
HS8's
>>
I'm guessing krk is a garbage tier meme?
>>
>>55257771
Unfortunately
The sub is highly rated, but not the monitors
>>
So what's recommended for electronic music production? Ideally just monitors, no sub.
>>
>>55257873
What ever you can afford. Yamaha and Mackie work well for most audio work.
>>
>>55257919
>>55257686
>>55257357

are these good for just listening to music?
>>
>>55257971
They are active reference monitors made for audio production/mixing. Flat response for true representation of the instruments, etc being recorded. They'll for listening too but pricey just for that.
>>
>>55257357
Neither, you're better of buying presonus monitors.
>>
Are the HS8's any different from the HS7's but for the size/price?
>>
>>55257745
If you go to guitar center you can listen to them with edm and you can see which one you like the sound of better. The price difference between the HS7s and hs8 is like 50 bucks each so it may be worth it for you to get the 8s
>>
Also, opinions on the KRK RP10-3?
>>
>>55257971
I'm the guy with the HS7s. Listening to rock and metal is heavenly. Everything is balanced. Listening to edm I can't help but feel a little yearning for more low end. I have a friend who claims he doesn't even feel satisfied with the 8's bass (but I think he's too used to hi-fi systems). Edm still sounds good but you're not going to feel the bass like you're used to. Then again, after a certain time you'll adapt to the sound of the speaker and it will allow you to make more balanced mixes, but for pure listening for edm you may be better off with some cheaper speakers and a sub
>>
>>55258303
I'm more of a rock and metal guy.
Can you recommend some quality value dac for the speakers? Or is a new mobo enough?
>>
>>55258326
dacs are not important for speakers
the amp is the most important part
>>
>>55257622
Cheap logitech speakers are perfect for their price.
>>
>>55258379
but these already have inbuilt amps
>>
>>55257357

The Yamaha's are twice the price so they had better be way better.
>>
>>55258415

for me they almost cost the same, are you sure you didn't misread something?

>>
>>55258437
>>55258448

>>
LSR305's are pretty shit so I imagine the Yamaha is the only fair choice.

I really enjoy my HS8s, also got the sub. It's great to have a set of speakers that sound as good as my DT 880s as it is now summer and hot as fuck here in the desert. Wearing headphones all day is pretty meh.

Now I just have to figure a way to stay cool while using my Vive....
>>

>>
>>55258776

I actually noticed a positive difference when I put in and started using my cheap as hell $40 Xonar card.

I don't even have decent speakers. Eagle Arion 2.1 system
I do hear a buzz I didn't hear before when there's no media playing but something paused in the background or some form of media loading.
Probably a side effect of the cheap DAC.

Was using onboard Realtek alc892 on the Asus p8z77-v

You could always skip getting a card and just get an external DAC.
>>
>>55258776
Have that in my pc, sounds better than my Soundblaster

errr, why would you guys want to go for active monitors when small T amps are at the amazing level and price point in our age and they beat easily whatever shitty amp is build in to the meh speakers

not to mention that when you play nothing, you get zero sound coming out of the speakers, no buzz, no hiss, no nothing
>>

i agree with you though decent bookshelf speakers will be more pleasent to listen to

Guy with the 7s again. I'd say just get an audio interface. That way you're not using like aux cable to trs to plug into these speakers. I have the focusrite 2i2 and it's cheaper than normal on amazon right now. Get 2 xlr male to trs and you're good to go. It's basically like an external sound card. And if you decide to stream one day, you can get an excellent quality XLR mic for like $100
>>
>>55257357
>hiss

>>
>>55260589
I have a SupremeFX 8 on my mobo, is it not good enough?
would it bottleneck the quality of the HS7?
>>
>>55258462
If you go to GC they'll sometimes match the bundles you find on amazon from sketch 3rd party fulfillers. I got a pair of HS7s, foam speaker pads, stands, and 2 mogami gold cables for $600. I'm still in shock lol

The DAC on onboard audio is always going to be worse but it may not be a huge difference. You may also hear more noise when you're not playing anything. Other than that, probably not a big deal. Also, remember to shut off your speakers (they have an on off switch on each one) before shutting down the sound source (your pc). Otherwise you'll get those full volume pops that fuck your speakers
>>
>>55260762
Plenty of studios use Yamahas as 2nd opinion monitors breh
>>
>>55260714
everyone else says studio monitors are perfect for listening to music, in fact better than anything else
>>
>>55260790
Yeah, they use NS10s because they have the most overhyped high mid in the history of monitors and showcase everything wrong with your mix. They're only used as a reference to figure out what is wrong with the mix.

Otherwise many post production studios (at least the ones I've engineered at) have tons of HS5's sitting around to use for 5.1 and 7.1 mixdowns. Again, only being used as a utility and not as a main monitor.

That's only based on about 20 years of experience though. You may be CLA for all I know

small scale jbls lack midrange and bass

any small to midsize monitor will have the same deficiency

in professional studios, the monitors are large and cost more than your automobile, and they are powered by dedicated separate amplifiers

Depends on the price range. A pair of Adam A77X is a god-tier setup, but not for every wallet or room. There's always the cheaper, single cone Adam A*X series, which comes in different sizes. On the lower end, Yamaha HS* are good options. Genelec also has some good offerings.

Best for what?

Also in general if you're mixing and not a retard you can learn any speaker. They all sound a little different and as long as you recognize something like an NS10 has a very hyped high mid and no low end, you can use that to your advantage to produce professional sounding mixes.

If you're talking about just listening to shit then it comes down to what you like the look of. Just throw your music through an EQ if you really need to alter it but you'd honestly be fine with something like the HS5 or even the Focal Alpha series if you want a little more low end. I would suggest not using adams or higher end ribbon tweeter shit for everyday listening. I have a pair of focal solo 6 for my tv running through a FMR RNC to balance out the ear-rape commercials. I have them mainly because I like how they look, they sound great too but they fit the room

>>
>>55261788
Yeah, this is especially important if you're making edm shit, most people lose all the low end they had and think it's their monitors being shit. Meanwhile if they stood in the corner next to them their heads would be exploding.

I used to have spreadsheets to enter room dimensions and it would tell you problem frequencies and their node positions in the room. I should see if I can dig that up for people to check out.

I've been using this Indiana Line's 2.1 desktop system for a couple of months and so far I'm definitely satisfied with them. Since I have money to spend for things I like, I'm wondering if truly flat monitor speakers can be a step up in terms of soundstage, instruments' separation and clarity. I've been looking into Yamaha HS8, JBL lsr308 and Tannoy Reveal 802. Has anyone here tried them? Impressions? And what about 5" monitor speakers from the same brands?

>>55260714
>>55260803
>>55259520
>>55259459
I still can't understand where this "monitor stuff is bad for listening to music" idea comes from. Technically a flat sound should be the most accurate and balanced one, thus it should be the most pleasing to listen to. I own a K702, which is fairly neutral, even though it emphasizes mid-highs and mid-treble a bit, and it sounds better and more accurate to me than the Fidelio X2 (pretty bassy, even though it's fun to listen to) I previously owned. Sennheiser HD600 is one of the most neutral heapdhones out of the box and unsurprisingly it's an absolute favourite for most music listeners.

>>
>>55267162
> warmer, richer
It just means that it's mid-bass boosted, which can be bad when it covers details in the mid-range. Cold sound is usually exaggerated, it just means that it's accurate, more refined and that it lets details come out because it's closer to the original source. In my opinion, the closer to the original source, the better it is. I'm sure that also most hifi speakers have flat/neutral sound.
>>
>>55267255
yeah that was a bit exaggerated but hifi aswell allows you to upgrade in components its sort of like pc vs mac with hifi you can swap out the amps the speakers and whatnot that is not the case with monitors you have to buy a full package and hifi gear looks super nice
>>
>>55267382
also I kinda think of it as monitors are a tool for work and hifi is for play

all these factors vary somewhat from room to room, and vary depending on the hearing range of the listener

but the quality of reproduction from the driver is one of the most important things, and so is the size and material build of the speaker cabinet -- the difference between a plastic toy piano and a hand-built wood violin

people like different sound signatures, and that's why it is important to try out speakers in person
