actually 1600 RPM isn't 50%
5200 RPM is that fans max RPM (watch a teardown showing the exact fan model for proof)
1600 RPM is roughly 30% of total fan speed

GPU-Z is not properly reporting most things on the RX 480 at this time, even the latest model does not properly report most things on the RX 480, you have to do a thermal camera test or there's no way to properly test the temperatures on a 480.

kek gotta love AMDrones. The rx 480, a mid to low end card, has the same thermal performance of the gtx 1080, a high end card. Given that high end cards consume more power and are less power efficient than the lower tier cards, that means that AMD's high end cards will run hotter than Nvidia's cards, and Nvidia's mid to low end cards will run cooler than AMD's.

I think we're in for another generation where both Nvidia and AMD put out cards that are just average and all the hype is for nothing. Nobody pulled off any miracles, cards of equivalent price brackets will be pretty similar from both sides and all that.

I didn't say they had to use the anime mascot, you mindless twat, only that they borrow from it the theme. The heart. Being at the heart of gaming. They provide hardware for all the consoles on the market right now, and next gen systems, they're launching a cheap entry level VR GPU. All of that ties together perfectly.

Not that a shit eating 80IQ retard could understand anything this woefully simple.

Aggressively expand, and eventually build a massive empire such that I can wage large scale corporate warfare and either stomp out or absorb anything I see as remotely wanting. >>55245138
No, clocks aren't arbitrary. They're a sweet spot for perf/watt on the voltage curve. No amount of heat sink would ever change that.
>>
>>55245188
Lets do some simple math
Nvidia
>uses metal casing
>uses a proper heatsink
>doesn't cheap out like the filthy kikes at AMD

AMD
>plastic build, you KNOW this came from China, and not even the good China (Taiwan), but the child laborer in the PRC
>shitty aluminum heatsink
>make the reference design as cheap as possible to encourage you to buy the significantly more expensive cards

This is why AMD's market share is dwindling.
>>
>>55245185

>>
>>55241725
970/390 were high end, retard. Also this performance will equal the new consoles, so you're sure to run games at 1080p flawlessly with low heat and noise. TW3, which is a game decidely unfavorable to AMD's cards, runs High/Ultra with hairworks off at 60FPS/1080p. TW3 Ultra is a tier of its own, but like many "Ultra" settings (FO4 comes to mind), it really isn't worth the performance hit. So TW3 High is a good build target / benchmarking goal.

You may not need the card (which I'll get, 280x sold for ~190USD, buying 4GB RX470 for 150USD, 40 profit and a better card), but there are plenty of people on 560Tis and other old cards/CF setups who will upgrade.

If blower style GPU coolers had much bigger fans like pic related, would they perform as well as open air coolers? I like this idea because exhausting the heat out of the case is just more preferable to open air coolers for me.
>>
>>55245348
Yes, but to get really nice temps you need a thick heatsink.

See how AMD managed to cool down the 300 rebrand series even with just two fans compared to the 200 coolers.
The heatsinks used on the 300 rebrand are around 2.5 slots compared to the 2.0 slot from almost all the Nvidia cards.

The heatsink used in the MSI 390 is almost as twice as thick as the one in the MSI GTX 970.

They claim they're putting the Fury's cooling tech onto the 480; personally, I hope that the cooler on the 470 will be equal to that of the 480, whatever it turns out to be.

AMD's now stock Wraith CPU cooler gives me hope that the reference models will have good cooling and a 40W difference between TDP and consumption

The 1080 is drawing over 220W while it's TDP is only 180W. Of course it's going to downclock, because it's can't maintain its boost speed and stay under 82C.

The 480 probably draws about 110W but has a TDP of 150W, thereby allowing overclocking and boost clocks but keeping the temperature manageable.

Zen will be good. Intel is getting out of desktop x86 game because the products are mature; basically the generic (AMD) is as good as the name brand (Intel, who licenses x86 to AMD). Competition forces thin profit margins.

The 1080 draws 180w from the 8 pin power connector, there's another 75w from the PCIe connection. 180w + 75w = 255w. The 1080 reduces its boost clock at higher temperatures, but it can still remain above the base clock. All cards these days are designed to adjust their clock speed based on the load and the temperature and a host of other factors.

Intel isn't getting out of the desktop/laptop processor market anytime soon. All of their attempts to break into mobile besides low power processors for Surface Pro type devices has failed. They need x86. And AMD and Intel depend on each other, it's not like AMD has Intel by the balls or anything.

They aren't abandoning the desktop market. Why would they abandon something they virtually have a monopoly over? That article didn't specify *who* was getting laid off at Intel. Companies restructure all the time, I highly doubt Intel will stop making desktop CPUs as long as there is a market for them. And nothing about that article even suggests they're abandoning x86_64. They're shifting to enterprise/cloud + ultra portable "cloud books" , both of which still use x86 by and large.

You're right, they are conceding it to AMD, who will end up with a 50% market share in a few years.

There are other articles from business oriented sites with more info. I just picked that one because it was the first one I saw. I originally said "getting out of the x86 desktop GAME" because the roadmap for the next years is basically set. Quantum computing will begin to replace our current tech in about a decade.

Do you have an aftermarket cooler for the 6350? If you are just looking for an incremental improvement I would say just overclock the cpu you have and hold out to see how zen shapes up. If your main purpose for the upgrade is gaming those extra 2 threads won't make a massive difference, it's only really worth it if you have some workload that would benefit from more threads over higher clocks.
>>

Why do you think the Brexit vote was 49 to 51? Or the popular vote in US presidental elections is often only 5%-10% different? This is a natural outcome if a duopoly has two competetive members, and like I said, the x86-x64 market will have matured with the launch of Zen.

>There's no more high profit margins for Intel like these last few years.
You typically don't abandon a revenue stream prematurely though. As long as a market exists, Intel will cater to it. Shifting towards the cloud and ultra portables does not exclude them from making desktop CPUs. There's still a whole host of people who need high powered desktops, gamers aren't the only ones.

But then after about 2-3 minutes, the screen flashes black and suddenly it's set back to vivid again.

490 when?
Just announce something more powerful already for fuck sake.
All I want is a new-generation $500 AUD card not $400 or $800 shit
>>
I want 460 for my htpc. Will there be 460 as a slim or as a one slot card?

It could be quite good for general use.
>>
>>55249010
probably. it doesn't draw enough to even use the PCIe fully.

Why does everyone keep mentioning 4870? Because it was good or bad?

Reason why I'm asking is because I bought had that card back in 2009

tl dr history of the shit that happened

nvidia had gtx 280/gtx 260 at 650 and 450
ati came released 4870 and 4850
4870 was 3% slower than the 280 and it was 300 bucks less...
4850 was 10% slower than 260 and it was 100 bucks less
the result was nvidia stop the production of 260 cut a massive 220 bucks of 280 and they force to pay to their customers 50 bucks because of a class action lawsuit that happened because of that move

I'm really looking forward to this card. Trying to decide if I want to just wait for a nonreference, or just pick one up as soon as possible. I'm upgrading from a 280x.

http://wccftech.com/amd-rx-480-shipments-hit-us-stores/

"Interestingly, yesterday a Microcenter branch in Overland Park Kansas revealed to a customer that they’re receiving a shipment of 100 RX 480 cards on the 28th of June. That’s exactly 25 times as many GTX 1080 cards the same branch had at launch, which was only four. We called the branch & confirmed. We were also told that their stock of GTX 1080 cards is currently limited to one per customer due to limited supply."
