I got a 970, wanting to replace it with a RX 480 because i don't game as much as before, can get some money from it and also because I got a free sync monitor, but I am using Win10/Ubuntu dual boot and I have heard that amd GPUs are shit on Linux, is it worth?

No. And don't believe shit about AMDGPU-PRO until we see it.
Well, GPUs work like shit in Linux, it just so happens that amd GPUs work like utter fucking bullcrap. That is not a valid reason to not buy an amd GPU though. If you're going to be gaming on Linux, you might just as well kill yourself right now. If you need to use the gpu for raw power, then you'll probably also have the motivation to get it working correctly.

Nvidia GPUs/proprietary drivers work fine. The actual performance is game dependent

Not always, my laptop has an nvidia gpu, and no gpu driver has worked with it, nouveau didn't recognise it, proprietary drivers recognised it but X gave me the most vague error ever, basically the something happened equivalent of Linux. I disabled the dgpu in the bios and only used the igpu, and that worked flawlessly.
