No, I'm not a pedophile. I like real women like GTX 1080.
>>
yes I'm pairing it with my old i7 950
>>
I'm actually trying to decide between the 470 and 480, depending on what the final price will be here in Europe.

I wouldn't be too surprised it you could end up being able to unlock a 470 into a 480 since it is based on a binned 480.
>>
>>55227056
470 looks great too

Most likely around 970~ performance without the gimped vram or gimped dx12 performance
>>
I'm quite happy with my 290 Vapor-X, so I'll be waiting for Vega.
The 480 is phenomenal bang-for-buck though, if the rumors are true. Hell, even if it delivers GTX 970 performance it'd still be undercutting the 970 by about 100 bucks, and all while consuming less power.
>>
>Vega may hit sooner so amd could at least try to stay in the competition
Hate the waiting meme to be honest.
>>
Yes, I'm really poor, I barely have anything to eat typically, so the RX480 suits my perfectly.

Thanks AMD!
>>
>>55227096
The idea this is only slightly better than a 970 at a marginally lower price is literally unbelievable. I won't believe that until I see it on the 29th. It's been almost two years since the 970's release and that was on 28nm.

No, just no. It will have to be 390x/980/nano or better perf to not fail.
>>
Any chance of a lowpro? The 750ti being the best lowpro is a bit sad.
>>
>>55227096

You survived very long without a housefire.
>>
>>55227178
460 is something like 50w or so
>>

>>
>>55227184
290 was only a housefire card if you used stock coolers, which was useless.

On that note, the stock cooler for 480 doesn't even have heat pipes, and yet the card reaches 72C max...
>>
>>55227234
It has no heat pipes, it doesn't even have a copper base, and its a tiny heat sink over all.

The Polaris 10 die is super power efficient.
High end Vega will probably draw 200w~
>>
>>55227192
I need the form factor. Not too worried about power draw. I want to slap a nice card in an optiplex 3020 and htpc it.
>>

MJ had stunted mental growth due to his youth in showbiz. He was a literal manchild. This is a documented fact - there are interviews with women who went to bed with him and MJ only wanted to watch bugs bunny all night.

The only thing he wanted to do with other kids was to watch Captain Planet and play the Sega Genesis together. Unfortunately he was a rich celebrity, which meant that this behaviour was enough to get sued for pedophilia.

I starting to think that this kind of nonsense is the latest entry on nvidia's shilling manuals.

There are lot of fanbois actually expecting this card to surpass the 980Ti's (Fury X too) and get in the range of the new 10xx cards and at its current advertised price point. This overhype will only serve to kill what could be (from a cautious belief on the latest rumors) a pretty solid product.
>>
The 480 will probably be a very decent, budget gpu. It reminds me of the 4850/5950.

But why are you people spreading all this nonsense about it beating a high-end gpus?

I'm excited for everyone. My 670 die prematurely and a 970 was at $270 a few months ago so I had to pull the trigger. It ended being the right choice since I never imagined ever switching to Linux on the desktop and the current driver performance on AMD cards. Polaris is looking to deprecate the entire GPU market with the 1070 as the goto high end card from this generation in case you want a little more performance. $200 gives you the high end from last generation, $150 gives you low high end from last generation and might be a great overclocker, and sub $100 gives you a cute card that will be THE entry level card for the casuals of all casuals while being cute as fuck. I hope they fix Linux drivers, I will hop on the Vega train with freesync as my next upgrade and maybe even Zen while I'm at it.

Polaris is mainstream. $300-$500 is not mainstream. They're not doing fat Polaris chips. They'll probably skip that price point and go super high end with Vega and HBM2 starting at $600.
>>
>>55227178
470 doesn't need a pci-e, small chance there's a low profile. With the popularity of HTPC cases it could happen though.
>>
>>55227889
Will the 480 become obsolete when Vega releases?

My 750ti is probably dying soon and 480 seems a beast for $200 but i dont want to run every game in 2017 on low settings in 480p

when do you think the reference versions will show up? I think buying a sapphire 480 would be a very good idea. With the kind of tdp it has, a reference cooler will be virtually silent.
>>
>>55227936
>Maybe look at the 460 as well since it's looking like the 750Ti killer.

The 460 is more like the Integra killer because there is literally no reason to run on integrated cards now that such a cheap and good card is in the stores
>>
>>55227939
Soon i hope. If the stock cooler is not completely silent on idle i ain't buying shit.
>>
>>55227762
The x60 cards are at this price point; 200-300.
The RX 480 will compete with them.

Whatever gains past Nvidia's current x60 cards, and its next iteration, should be our main concern, not what their relative performance against higher tiered cards that are literally double its price point. The closer they get towards those cards are gains that should reflect Polaris' strengh, but when the idiots start to lose track of it real market segment, it'll come as perceived weakness after the benchmarks reveal that they won't win against a motherfucking 980ti or a 1070.
>>
Looks like a pretty decent replacement for my aging 270, especially since I don't want to drop more than $300 on a vidya gaym device
>>
By the way, this is Polaris 11, i.e. the RX460 and the future mobile chips for laptops and whatnot.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNA6fll2DDQ
Pcper talks way too fucking much, but the too long;didn't watch is that it's performing just as well as the 950 while drawing 70 watts less. It's whole system power consumption, but it's something to keep in mind. It's also going to be cheaper given that Polaris is mainstream.
>>

AMD had proper drivers ever since they stopped using the impossible to optimize VLIW hardware.

That shit was more difficult to write software for than Itanium.

i meant that amd yesterday released the 480 drivers.....
>>
>>55228659
That's the eternal temptation of VLIW: smaller, faster, and cooler chips due to minimal dynamic instruction scheduling while praying that compilers and software developers will somehow be able to create optimal pre-scheduled instruction streams...

It was overly optimistic 15 years ago and still is for the most part today.

why would i buy a 480 when i already have a 970? we already saw from the leaked 3dmark results that the 480 is slower than a non-reference 970.

i'll wait for the 1060 and 1060ti for a real upgrade instead.

>Polaris is a brand new architecture on the latest 14nm process

it's not a rebrand, but it isn't an entirely new architecture. it's just another rehash of GCN. if AMD is going to continue in the gaming market they should design an architecture that can actually reach 100% utilization under gaming loads instead of recycling the failed abortion that was GCN.

they literally designed GCN to escape utilization issues in GPGPU applications, proceeded to lose the GPGPU market entirely, then 'brute forced' their way to better gaming performance by making dies 2x the size of nvidia's to reach performance parity.
>>
What are the odds the price of the 480x are going to jump right after release? Will amd keep them in stock or will it be a mad grab like the 1080s/1070s were?

>>
>>55233432

>>
>>55233432
Price/performance ratio
>>
>>55233432
Why is moral crusade not a valid reason? I sometimes follow the what's best for the customer route, but fuck Nvidia. They are cancer for the PC gaming scene and their closed bullshit. They're barely cooperating with the open source community and while their closed drivers on Linux have good performance, most of the problems I've had on the system was due to those very drivers. AMD is doing their best at bringing more open standards with freesync, GPUopen, and AMDGPU plus Polaris is looking like a generation of GPUs for everyone that doesn't have a anything from the low high performance of last generation, i.e. the 390 and 970.
>>
>>55227056
If watching the GPU market for a decade has shown me anything, it's that yes while their cut-down offerings are amazing values, you'll always end up wishing you spent the extra $50 on the full chip.

In this case it seems to be that we're looking at the difference between this year's games on ultra, next year's on high (480) vs. this year's on high, next year's on medium (470) at 1080p
>>
>>55227297
We have a video where the guy shut down the program as soon as it hit 71.9C, and we do not have a video of the card being heat soaked.

Judging from the rate of temp gain I'd say it was running a power virus like Furmark or some openCL crunching and would have bounced between 80-81C after 10 minutes.
>>
>>55233539
>freesync

not an open standard. AMDsync is garbage that adds input lag and puts extra load on the GPU. gsync is superior (since it's offloading to a custom asic included with the monitors) but you need to pay a ridiculous goyim tax to use it.

>GPUopen

a shitty clone of gameworks, both are cancer that needs to die. if you want to sponsor a game or dev, that doesn't mean you also need to give them a set of shader effects that don't integrate well into the devs existing codebase and are optimized only to your architecture. let them sort out their own trivial post process effects and hair bullshit.

>AMDGPU

is only an open source kernel mode driver. AMD is still releasing proprietary blobs that run in userspace instead of just opening it all up to the mesa devs.
>>
>>55233600
>AMDsync
It might not be an open standard in your eyes, but Nvidia could actually adopt it if they wanted to. They're just adamant about their own thing like what Apple does.

>GPUopen
I don't know anything about Gameworks in the sense that I can't read what the fuck it's doing. GPUopen might be the same concept in that it has code for certain effects in games, but it lets competitors like Nvidia optimize their drivers when some of its components are used.

>AMDGPU
I never said anything about AMDGPU PRO. I don't even know if they plan to open source it all on the long run, I don't know much about what hey want to do here.
>>
>>55233702
>but it lets competitors like Nvidia optimize their drivers when some of its components are used.

gpuopen isn't released under an open source license, so nvidia can't do shit with it (they can't even view it).

it's the same cancer as gameworks under a different name. AMD has been pulling this shit since 2013 with the tressfx bullshit in tomb raider

He's not, he is full of shit and the only downside to freesync so far is ghosting, g-sync actually can cause input lag at frame rates below 40, but if you're running a g sync monitor and don't have a card capable of running above 40...

I'm mostly concerned about how much I'll be able to sell the card before the 480 releases, but I'm not good at selling stuff and I'd probably have to pay a 70 dollar difference from my tight budget anyways so I guess I'll have to stick to my 960. Also, it's a DX12 card so it'd probably not be that much of a difference on Windows 7.

Whether AMD's software works well enough or you have to go 3rd party, there's at least the hardware capacity to do ShadowPlay type stuff with minimal overhead.
