I'm skeptical about the degree of impact that buoyancy from the thermal differences has on cooling.

Anyone have any test data on this?

Intuitively, it makes sense that you wouldn't want to fight buoyancy even if it is small. But I can imagine instances in which you may not have a choice, or it may be more effective.

It's something I and many others have thought about too. People on this and many other boards get caught up in minutia of cooling and ignore large factors.

It's like the fatty trying to lose weight and worrying about eating organic kale and placebo fat burning supplements when he/she is still inhaling 3500 kcal/day.

>>
>>55163841
Probably overwhelmed by electrically powered fan by a factor of hundreds. I can imagine the little air in a case is enough to generate more than 0.01 watt in buoyancy, while a fan will output about 1-4W in kinetic energy. Literally overwhelmed by electrically powered fans.

The only reason why you would choose top exhaust over top intake is because heavy dust falls under gravity into the case, so top intake may collect more dust. It has nothing to do with "air hot rises" convection meme.
>>
>>55163483
Are your GPUs even using blowers? It doesn't look like it.

If anything the heat would be rising straight up to the radiator and then getting stuck around the MOBO waiting to get pulled through the radiator.

ddr4 latency is so high because of it's clock speed:voltage ratio. DDR3 2400mhz is usually CL11 while DDR4 2400mhz is CL14-CL15. But DDR3 uses 1.65v to 1.8v to maintain that clock and timing. DDR4 uses 1.2v. You can tighten up the timings on DDR4, but you'd have to up the voltage. Even top sheld DDR4 3400mhz kits are only using 1.35v to 1.4v. Tests have been done to show how bad/good speed over timings are and the difference for general use and gaming is negligible. 90% of things benefit more from higher ram clock than tighter timings. The only people who truly benefit from tight RAM is professional editors where time is literally money so saving a few seconds here and there throughout the day adds up and is worth running slower ram.

Lastly DDR4 offers higher module density. A single stick can be up to 128GB while 16GB sticks of DDR3 are very rare and expensive. DDR4 wasn't all about more speed. It was more about being able to squeeze a lot more RAM into a server/PC than before using the same amount of slots while also using less juice.

Power consumption for us consumers may be nothing from 1.65v DDR3 to 1.2v DDR4 but imagine a server farm somewhere with 5 million sticks of DDR4 in play all at once. 24/7/365.

>>
>>55164586

Thanks, Anon. The rig itself is about 1100-1200 depending on where you buy your parts.

>>55164587

Are you talking about the fans that came with the Kraken? Or the fans that came with the case? I'm not aware of different versions for either product. Just using the stock white ones. They are decent enough. They push plenty of air, but are quiet loud if you ever crank them all the way up (never).

The case is fucking dope, and I would suggest it to anyone. Plenty of color options for anyone's build. PSU shroud great. Built in filters so my parts are very, very clean.

There is pretty much nothing wrong with this case, other than the looks for some people. 10/10 would recommend.

LIterally tell me right now why this isnt the best solution.

Hot air--->up
>>
>>55172601
air is warm/hot by the time it hits the cpu because of GPU.

This is why air comes in the front to go horizontally to the board in all cases.
>>
>>55172601
In the case of pc cases(lol) air goes where you move it

2 intakes will ONLY help here, yes bottom intakes arent bad either, but theyre not better than front intakes.

As long as you have a front to back or bottom to top airFLOW then youre good, make sure the air flows as a stream and youre set.
>>
>>55172601
Because convection is weak, fans over power it.
>>
>>55172624
Cpu has cooler right on it so it'll just disperse the air upwards easily with a big bottom cooler.
The gpu hot air will tend to move up cause hot air moves up anyways.
>>
>>55172689
>fans over power it
You don't need fans to overpower it when it ca all work in the same direction
>>

That's how mine will work once I actually have the parts in it. GPU uses a blower. Might add another on the bottom to get additional air to the GPU.
>>
>>55172744
Up in vent could pump hot air reflow.
>>
Mine is fine because it's 68 in my house.

Plus I have ac if it heats up.
>>
>>55165174

>>

>Mixing different fans together

Fucking retard.
>>
>>55172759
The bottom fan will be putting directly into the blower fan of the GPU, but I do see what you mean about making the air hot air rise. I'll try it with and without and see what happens.
>>
>>55172795
Figured I could change the other fans later. Spent too much on the build already.
>>
>>55172714
unless your cpu is liquid cooled thats not true.

It still is a bad idea since you are moving the hot air over the cpu making more stress in cooling it.

I've got a similar setup, except with 3 fans on the front and none at the bottom. Temps aren't too bad considering it's 31ºC outside and my A/C is almost nonexistent.
>>
A familiar or mine has a freezer that doesn't use. Could I like fit that in a PC case somehow? Maybe solding something to make it larger. Obviously it wouldn't be very efficient, but maybe it would be funny to build with a cheap PC to see if it strikes 10°C or less.

>>

you need more intake than exaust you dumb fucker. Every crack and seam on that case is sucking air in because the four exhaust create a vacuum that the 3 intakes cannot compensate for.

What are you saying?
>>
Just fine. It's 22°C here right now and rained this morning; nice summer day. 18°C inside our house so even though (unusually for the UK) we have AC, no point in using it today.
>>
>>55163873
air doesn't come in through the random holes instead of the filters if the pressure inside the case is slightly higher than the atmosphere
>>
im not a poor fag so i dont have problem, my house is well isolated and is cool inside even with 35ºC outside
>>
>>55174128
Bruh you best be trolling, that top intake feeding straight to the top exhaust is directly cooling his CPU's radiator with fresh air. Hell it's even set up to blow over the coolant lines.

>>55171776
Seeing that bigass water block cover makes me wonder, is it possible to air cool a liquid cooler's block? I understand mounts would have to be custom fabbed but even a cheap direct-contact cooler should help with heat saturation.

>>
Get to
>>>/v
or install gentoo
>>
So what's the fucking verdict about the top fans direction for the radiator?
Assuming 2 on the radiator, 2 in at the front for intake and 1 on the back for outtake.
>>
Dual-xeon server going at max fan speed as always.
>>
>>55175929
Out, with the fans on top. That way you won't heat the inside of your case and if dust gets in you can easily clean it off the radiator.
>>
>>55164311
you have 2 intake and 4 out fans?

you need to have equal or more intake than outake or you get negative pressure which means more dust in your computer.

always better to have more intake fans than outtake, the air will find its way out by itself, a single one in the top back is enough, rest should be intake

Whatcha guys think?

Should I find a way to make the fans as intake? Should I try something crazy like one intake, one exhaust on a 240mm radiator? The temperatures seem acceptable, these are after a few hours of gaming and when my room is around 67-70F. I think the CPU actually runs cooler with the fans as intake, though the board runs warmer and does the HDD, significantly.

>ITX
>Good temperatures

Might just go back to air cooling and say fuck it. My CPU actually gained maximum temperature by about 5-10C, and the GPU dropped max temperature from 81C to 55C in games.

just fine. no temps over 72c on load.

front intake 240mm fan, side intake 140mm, bottom intake 120mm, reference card exhaust, rear 120mm exhaust, top 2x 120mm exhaust.
>>

That doesn't answer the question.

All red fans are facing outwards.

the reviews i've read said that they cheaped out on the materials. the side panels are also steel instead of aluminum and that causes them to be off color from the rest of the case.
>>
I don't have components that run at 90°c, my 6500 never reaches 60°c, my 970 only reaches 70°c when it's working at full load. My case has a fan controller, it's always on low, the 970 is silent until 65°c, the CPU cooler is barely audible as it runs at low speed too. I can't hear my PC over the noise of the wind blowing outside my window which is always slightly open to keep the air inside fresh.
>>
>>55163483

my home has central a/c with a heat pump. I keep it the same tempature all year, 72 degrees.

Why don't you live in 2016?
>>
>>55168370
That's what I did, didn't notice any difference in temps, probably because I don't use housefire components though. The insides do get dusty but that's because my room generates dust out of thin air for some reason, my bed is literally dusty too, I flip my pillow over when getting up and before sleeping to keep my hair from getting dusty and greasy because of the dust.
>>
>>55170149
Is that your boiler?
>>
I was thinking about getting some sort of 5.25" bay mounted 120mm fan, there are a few options out there but it seems like a strangely unpopular idea. It seems like a good idea to have a straight line of airflow coming in, through the CPU cooler, and right out the back, no? My whole front panel is basically open with a single 140mm at the bottom and a 120mm exhaust out the back.

Pic related is how i have my airflow set up. I don't have any exhaust fans at all (barring what exhaust the video card causes), and my i5-4690 ends up hitting 70°C (with ambient at about 20) under max load. the video card runs the same.

Since my temps are pretty alright, do i need exhaust fans? I could mount two 80mm fans on the back, but i'm already out of fan plugs on my motherboard (asus h97i. im a poorfag please shoot me) and dont want some noisy ass cheap fans fucking everything up. i get pretty much no notable dust in my case at all and would like to keep it that way.

I'm blasting the ac and the flex alert can go fuck itself.
That said, yesterday I just laid on the floor and turned off the pc.
>>
>>55180479
if you normally react that way to flex alerts then i hope a brown/blackout fucks all of your system.

if you're reacting that way because the current surplus is definitely large enough to make this flex alert pretty unecessary, then you're alright.

Cano anyone give me an idea on how to cool my H440 properly?

Was gonna put 3 Corsair SP120s on the front intake, an AF140 on the exhaust, and the AIO Loop comes with 2 SP120s for exhaust.

Any suggestions?
