this whole 'app' thing is starting to really bug me out. what i think is the proper way to use the word 'app' is something like "hey dude look i made a cool app with lisp it prints out 1 + 2 look", but soon people will call even operating systems 'apps'. it doesnt really matter but for some reason it really ticks me off. am i developing autism?

In neither OS do you need to navigate to change to the directory before opening a file in it. That's retarded. You just type out the path while calling the program from whichever directory you're in.

You cant configure battery/AC power properly on any distro. Im including Ubuntu.

Im always have this problem of making my laptop suspend when I close lid on battery but keep it working when is on AC. I have to always use a script or something to make it work.

I never get this line of reasoning. Linux can spy on you all they want. It probably even makes it easier for you with all the tools that exists natively on the computer. And unless you've read through every single line of code for everything, you don't know whether or not some program calls rsync to log all of your files. Even then, most people still have closed source programs

No you wouldn't. You'd build a static executable. In both Windows and linux - to not rely on any software that may or may not be installed.

> What does everything else have to do with spyware being on Linux?
Plenty?
Searching for holes in open source programs is encouraged, and is discouraged in closed source programs. For one.

anyone with the right mindset (e.g. that doesn't have software baby duck syndrome) can easily make use of what the Linux ecosystem has to offer.

I concede that Linux seems to work behind the scenes where people don't have to actually deal with it.

I just pause a moment. What are you talking like Linux, is in fact, GNU / Linux, or as I have recently taken to calling it, GNU + Linux. Linux is not an operating system itself, but rather another free component of a fully operational GNU system made useful by corelibs GNU shell utilities and vital system components including a complete operating system such as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but that's just part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates resources of the machine to the other programs you run. The core is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can function as part of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is actually GNU with Linux added, or GNU / Linux. All distributions called "Linux" are really distributions of GNU / Linux.

I wasn't talking about the search, I was talking about the built-in screen recorder, whose output I have to reencode from VP9 because it's so phresh.

>>55000456

Ah, I found it, it was setup by default in 'Desktop Behaviour > Screen edges' but I disabled that because it was getting annoying.

I haven't been able to get bumblebee to work since 2years ago even with all the voodoo config bullshit. Pretty much the same shit for everyone else. Black screens on login.

Oh, then yes in Windows 10. It's part of the Xbox app and can be invoked with a global hotkey.

jesus, I thought that was a linux user talking about a feature that's actually good, not a retard saying themes are anything close to a unique theme

I guess I got caught up with the stupidity of someone saying that high contrast mode is useful for anyone who isn't legally blind

Care to provide some evidence that screen recording was developed on Linux before other platforms?

Also, is there a distro that ships it out of the box like Windows does?

app is more than program
application is program suite and will be descriptive enough for an OS

Could also be your hardware.
On my old asus eeepc all fn-keys plus lid (with(out)) ac worked.
Then I had an acer aspire one 7?? and the brightness buttons didn't work (out of the box) some little configuration (no own script) was reqired to make them work corectly. But that's Linux, sometime it just werx sometime not!

Not sure if you can on 10 but yes you can do this for earlier Windows versions. I know one use case was just for systems with very little internal storage. Think early netbook days.

There's the evidence. Does Windows have such methods of finding evidence?
>>

Screen recording definitely existed before 2012 bro. Please, put in some effort.
>>
>>55000875
Yeah but was it out of the box?
>>
>>55000904
I'm not even sure what you're arguing at this point. There's no evidence that screen recording software was made first for either platform.
>>
>>55000924
That wasn't the question. Windows stole the built-in screen recorder from GNOME. Windows stole from Linux. What has Linux stolen from Windows? The desktop? Sorry that was Apple.
>>
>>55000952
>Windows stole the built-in screen recorder from GNOME

Could you clarify this statement? They used the code? Do you have a source or do you just want to continue to make claims without moving the conversation?
>>
>>55000952
also, apple had built in screen recorder since v10.6 (2009)

I doubt you'd even try. I've seen your kind many times before. Fortunately if we keep working at it we may have a cure in your lifetime.

>>55001002
Kudos to Apple for taking neat features from around them and making them standard. Who knows where the desktop operating system would be without them?
