mp3(or any lossy compression) artifacts start way lower than that. The quantizer fails even before reaching those extremely high frequencies which are mostly masked away during listening even with good hearing. mp3 files can sound great even with those bitrates but it depends heavily on the content and encoder used.

Not quite sure how he spend all that money. That tube amp isn't even going to cost that much. Most of the money in a real tube amp goes to exotic output transformers. Some have their windings made from pure silver, for instance, and the good ones are huge.

But you can clearly see his shit is a hybrid tube amp since there are no transformers visible (it uses solid state output stage, which means the tubes are there pretty much for show).

>>
>>54972074
well with gear its best to learn the fundamentals of physics imo, and learn the origin of snake oil products so you can form your own opinion. Then just go on the usual websites and filter out snake oil. >>
This shit doesn't make ANY sense.

Why waste ridiculous amount of money on shitty analog cables that "suffer less interference" or some shit? Make the whole thing digital, and convert to analog within each speaker, immediately before driving them. Now, only the small circuit that drives the speaker needs to be shielded.

ok, first of all, youre a faggot.
live music is not for listening to the original audio. if you wanted to do that, you can do that in your bed at home with some headphones.
live music is about
>crowd
>atmoshpere
>performance
yes, ok, you can listen to music in a hall, and yes, you can get really good audio in certain environments...

but youre a fuckign dummy if youre going to a concert for that.
more likely than not, if youre actually an appreciator of live music, youre going to...

>rally with friends and listen to music that you all like, and boogy your ass off, and maybe dance with some nice ladies, or a stuffed animal
>to soak up the vibe, ie, a new experience, like going to a show youve heard is cool, or to hang out with people you know. from there, youre either going to mosh, or to dance, or groove, or just stand there bobbing your head and pestering the sound guy
>youre going to hear some songs you like performed live. live audio isnt meant to be verbatim what it soudns liek on the cd. musicians amost always play parts different, change the mix up a bit, or experiment with sounds. plus, if you really know the music, you can pick out where they mess up.

but going to live music to hear what you heard on the cd is dumb as fuck.

even when it comes ot hearing the music, because sometimes, you can pick out sounds live, that you never heard on the cd track. i cant tell you how many times ive relaized there was a synth backing the entirety of a song that i never heard on the cd, but definitely heard live.

im buttmad. live music is supreme.

I know I'm coming off as autistic, and there certainly is something wrong with me, but I'm pretty sure it's not autism.

Anyway, I really hate live concerts (and I'm excluding all acoustic stuff from this). It's usually WAY too loud, the acoustics are complete shit, I never know what to do there as I feel absolutely no urge to move my body to music. Honestly never understood why people pay money for that bullshit. On the other hand, I've been to classical concerts, operas, ballets even and that is truly enjoyable.
>>
>>54970344
Should have been xiao meimei
>>
>>54976902
ill accept your repsonse and opinion.

ive been to a lot of venues where the shit is just way too loud. generally these are run by shitty engineers who dont take criticism, so i might chalk it up to you just having been to bad venues. my second audio job was for a bar, and the dude who ran it was top-teir. never once felt too loud, and the dude could pull sounds out that youd think would be impossible in a live environment.

the mixer certainly helped.

Amps are boring shit, barely any innovation there and it's not a domain where you could expect to see any meaningful improvements at anything else than efficiency compared to what's on the market now. Loudspeaker designs are another thing but I'd rather we give up on the old school passive designs and embrace DSP, active crossovers and focus on the cabinet designs. We have the knowledge but nobody seems concerned at making good consumer products. Probably because the audiophile market doesn't care and/or is wanking to classics and flavor of the month magic and rest of the consumers don't understand.

My godfather is an audiophile (and a little bit autistic). To be fair he has a shitload of money, but the thing about him is that he is no idiot. I've seen incredible equipment at his place, things like amplifiers powered by military vehicle batteries weighting 70kg each, speakers that almost didn't fit the room, all that.
But what he tells me is that he bought those damn things to learn about them, and now he makes his own gear through reverse engineering. he says "I can pick $30 in parts and make them sound better than anything else in the world, and then I'll sell them for $30.000"

So not all audiophiles are stupid.

>It's sad that the joke mp3 file would probably sound great to him since he's 60 something years old and probably can't hear over 14khz.
I am late-middle-aged and at typical conversational levels, I can't hear much beyond about 13K, 13.5K at the most....

I am an electronics fag, so I have signal generators, an oscilloscope and other various things, to visually indicate various qualities of electronics stuff as they work.
For my own test, I ran a 3000 Hz signal to several speakers (only one at a time), adjusted the volume to a normal conversational level, and then began turning the frequency up until I could not hear it anymore.
I tried about six different 'speakers'--a couple were hi-fi tweeters, one was a small mid-range driver, and three ultrasonic transducers. All of them went 'silent' at around 13K+
One oscilloscope channel was the signal to the speaker, and the other channel was a microphone in front of the speaker. The scope said that speakers were doing what they were supposed to.

(sigh)

I have no stereo setup at all. All my music is ripped to 192kb MP3s on the PC. I did that back when many portables still didn't have much storage space, or play VBR files.
I kinda wanna get a little t-class amp (the $25 ones) but I don't want to handle CDs. And I don't want to re-rip my PC music library.
My only audiophile indulgence is some Klipsch 3.1 PC speakers. :|
