>>
>>54912617
If you go through a seller it's not as easy as if amazon themselves shipped it out. You normally have to pay the return postage and wait for the seller to check it and authorise the refund. Amazon just refund you instantly and send you a postage label so you can return it anytime in the next 30 days. Really useful when you just want to try out a few phones and not worry about being without a device for a few days.

What's my best bet for a no-cloud phone?

No I don't want to sync my contacts.
No I don't want to always be able to find my phone via GPS.
No I don't need your online backup service, my good old HDD holds up fine.
No I don't want to receive my notifications on my PC.

Hi /g/.
I need some advice/have some questions about the Xiaomi mi5 and/or Xiaomi phones in general.

I'm buying a new phone for my birthday.

If there are any Xiaomi owners here, how long do they last? Since there is no warranty (from what i've read) I need it to last for a while.

What the fuck do i do if it breaks?

Can you replace the glass on it or do i need to send it all the way to India?

Is anything replaceable at all?

Just like any other phone. 3-4 years if taken good care of.

>What the fuck do i do if it breaks?
Take it to a repair shop or send it back if you have warranty.

>Can you replace the glass on it or do i need to send it all the way to India?
Yes, and it's China, not India.

>Is anything replaceable at all?
Yes.

That being said, don't get the Mi5. it's too fragile and not cost effective. RN3P is the best bang for the buck if your'e going Xiaomi.

No expendable storage, non-removable battery,

It'll work, just some places where the unsupported band is the -only- band available you'll drop back down to HSPDA+ or whatever which is still like 20mbit/s.

You won't notice anything other than you have an awesome phone that was only about $200. I've had mine for a couple months now and it's great.

Only things the RN3P really skimps on are the rear camera and rear speaker. Rear speaker sounds like shit and isn't really loud coming from my HTC One M7, but viper4android actually makes it louder and sound pretty nice. Front camera actually seems to do really good... makes me look much prettier than I am.
>>
>>54913445
It would take just as much time with Gearbest. in fact, might be longer, since they are known to mark items in stock when they're not, and then your order status is stuck on "processing" for weeks until they actually get the item restocked.

visit /csg/ if you don't believe me.

Since Ali is just collection of shops, you'd rather go with HK Goldway - good verified seller, and it's still cheaper than GB.

that is the thing, the 6p is expensive and holds its value super well on the used market, the pure tanked in value for a reason
>>

Can't comment on the rhinoshield since I'm not familiar with that brand.
Other than that everything you did sounds fine. The 6p is a great phone and there's nothing wrong with getting extra cables/chargers.

>>54915097
Pure tanked in resale value because of price drops for the Nexus and the sale of Motorola to Lenovo. Customer support is utter shit and updates are not as fast or as plentiful as expected.
That isn't really an issue for me though since I'm rooted and on a custom rom.

Why do people think BlackBerry is obsolete now? I have a Q10 and it's way better than an iPhone or Android. The user interface is so much more intuitive--everything is in a place where it makes sense. "Settings" isn't just a meaningless word--you can actually change important shit and see useful information. The battery can last more than 5 fucking minutes under normal use. There is a physical keyboard so I'm not constantly fighting to type a coherent sentence. I think what I like most is that it hasn't been dumbed down.
My only complaints are that the browser has issues with adding exceptions for sites with invalid TLS certificates (I can't get on Arch's site?!); and there some apps I'd like to get that don't exist, but that's just because the community is so much smaller.
>>
>>54916234

Hi anons, I was hoping someone could help me understand something I've been having trouble with.

So I've been looking into purchasing a chink phone, possibly the redmi note 3, not really sure yet. I am on verizon over here in the US, and I know that only certain phones are compatible due to cdma. I see that the note 3 has wcdma, would that work with my sim card over here in the states? Does anyone have any experience with verizon in this manner? Any other chink phones anyone wants to recommend for verizon?

Anyone have any advice on buying a Verizon compatible phone with a large battery capacity, preferably with a smaller screen? I was thinking of pic, but its a phablet and that branding is ugly as fuck. I just want to be able to shitpost all day.

Mini review of 5x

>still the cheapest bang for your buck outright phone in Canada
>camera and bloat free Android is great
>updates fix problems monthly
>good phone size for one handed use
>videos and text look great
>charging is fast as fuck
>upon fresh reboot, phone is the fastest device I've ever held

>overpriced in Canada. Find a friend in the US to buy it for you. I made the mistake to buy it full price
>Snapchat is fucking terrible. My fav app and I can't blame android but Holy fuck nexus 5 could handle it better. Hoping for Android N fix
>battery does 4.5 SOT hrs for me with social shit apps and constant music streaming. Not the worst but still meh
>what does help the slowdown is a quick reboot. Makes everything fresh and snappy for at least 100 hours then snap may lag again
>gets hot as fuck. Just a comfortable and preference issue
>plastic build makes it feel cheap as fuck. Again, get this for the ~$250 US price tag to justify

tl;dr It's good, esp coming from the 5 and didn't want to cash out $700

I'm actually looking into selling this when the next nexus phone gets released bc of some of the social media gripes I have with the 5x.
How does it make sense that snap can run smoothly on the 5 yet my 5x can't do it? That shit pisses me off.
>>
>>54915613
Holy shit anon, that sounds like a pain in the ass. I have a Redmi 3 and had to wait a week for the bootloader unlock message, the unofficial unlock methods tempted me but I was wary that people on the Russian forums were saying it bricked their phones.

Now I have TWRP and flashed CM12.1 for good measure.

>>54920822
I'm also interested in this, I have dropped my Z2 probably hundreds of times, but most of them were like two or three feet drops when I was browsing 4chinz in bed. Never dropped it from more than 5 feet height. It never broke, shattered, or got any faults except for a few scratches on the metal rails.
I want to buy an S7, and I'd buy the edge for the bigger battery, but I'm concerned about it breaking, given my history with dropping. Should I expect a build quality similar my Z2 from the S7? Has anyone owned both phones?
Thanks
>>
>>54926342
The edge phones are probably those at the highest risk of getting the glass broken ever. I fix phones for a living and while you mostly drop on the edges the slanted glass on the sides are at much greater risk after the initial "bounce". It's thinner and more exposed so don't expect it to survive getting dropped much. I'd never dare use one daily without a otterbox like cover, making its appearance useless and ugly.

It's also incredibly expensive to replace the glass right now, not to mention replacing other parts means a HUGE risk of breaking the display which will cost you a repair of both.
>>
>>54926342
It's no more fragile than the Z2 was. It's still likely to shatter if you drop it on concrete at a bad angle but it won't just break from dropping on the carpet at home. Z2 didn't even have gorilla glass, it was just some cheap toughened glass substitute.

>>54926523
>buy edge phone

>putting flat glass on a slanted screen so it doesn't cover the areas that are most likely to break

Anyone go from stock android to an S7 and make the S7 more comfy for yourself to use?

Like every other whore at the moment I'm looking at the S7 but have traumatic memories of touchjizz from years back. Apparently it's not as shit as it used to be (just barely).

Coming from a Nexus 4 that is actually falling apart piece by piece, anything would be an upgrade for me.

Sony, first choice because I can't get nexus shit in my cuntry easily, is now off the list for various build reasons despite its UI being closest to what I'm used to, so Samshit it is, apparently.
Fuck I'm a whore for those supersaturated colors.
>>
Vibe K5 or Moto G3? My provider is giving me one of those.
>>
Why does the US get the shitty version of the S7?
It's messing up my research into the model when people slag on it because their region apparently gets shafted in regards to processors.
>>
>>54926809
Yeah, touchwiz is really not bad now at all. Install your launcher of choice, get package disabler pro to remove the bloat and it's no different to any other skin.
>>
>>54927134
US always gets cucked. Something to do with supported LTE bands on the chipset.
The Exynos model is 10/10.
>>
Are there any good amoled phones? The S7 in the US is shit and the Asus device that has it is stupid huge
>>
>>54927215
I wouldn't call the SD820 shit, it's just not as good as the 8890.
>>
>>54927134

You can get Exynos version from B&H video, thats where I got mine, like ~630$ free shipping came overnight too
>>
>>54927172
Does that mean that travellers to the US have issues with working bands when they travel through with such phones?
>>
>>54927297
I won't pretend to know anything about us cellular infrastructure, I just know they went with the 820 because it has better support for their bands. The Exynos well likely work fine in most cases, just not all.

I was in your same seat until yesterday, then I just went with the 5X since I did not want to take the bootloop lottery. Upgraded from a broken HTC ONE M7.

My first impressions haven't been perfect but that is mostly because I thought some basic features in HTC sense existed in stock Android 6.0.1 (like the ability to customize your drop down settings menu, but I guess I will have to root if I want to get rid of a quick icon for Locations and Chrome Cast). I don't particularly like using widgets but the stock widgets included are absolutely horrible or barely existent, having a decent analog clock and local music player widget is apparently to much for your home screen.

But that is mostly my fault for not taking the "stock android" as literal as I should have.

>More points:
- The power and volume buttons are a little bit wobbly and if I shake my phone I can hear them moving around (sounds like plastic legos in a match box).
- Finding as decent case for under 30€ that isn't shit in materials or intentionally extends that camera bump on the backside is a pain in the ass.

Otherwise I am pretty positive, screen is decent, camera is decent even for low light, those of us old school xperia users may like seeing that back side material again, that 2700 mah battery is quite fast to recharge, the fingerprint sensor is as good as you can adjust it. It feels fast and responsive this early in the game. And size wise it feels good, as well as the overall design. I also noticed that spare parts are relatively cheap for such a 'new' phone, which is a plus for those of us repair fags, the usb connector is however soldered directly on to the motherboard so don't break it.

Do remember that these are my first impressions, I haven't started configuring the device to appeal my personal android taste yet which would make my final experience complete.

Pull down the notification shade, then press and hold the settings cog m8.
>>
>>54926809
>various build reasons
Sony phones have the best build quality what are you talking about?
Nova might help a bit but the settings will still look like they're from a toy phone for kids.
I have also not seen a review of the S7 where the UI didn't stutter at least a few times here and there (mostly when scrolling through settings), which makes me terrified, because even 3 year old nexus phones didn't have lag anymore.
This being said I'll still buy an S7 myself, just because sony didn't jump on the 1440p oled meme train, and there really no other options right now.
Also the S7's camera is goat, so there's that

Thanks, looks like the S7 is it unless an Xperia falls for free into my lap somehow.

So,
Nova launcher
Some file manager
"package disabler pro" (thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about this)

Anything else recommended for de-crappifying a new S7?

That literally does nothing.
>>
Is there anything wrong with the Oneplus X? Durability issues, custom ROM problems?
>>
>>54927402
It may just be because I have the Exynos version, but there is no stutter in any part of the UI. I'm autistic as fuck about that kind of thing and would have returned it the day I bought it if there was.
>>
>>54927479
Turn on developer options first, sorry I assumed you'd have already done that.

Is an LG G5 worth it if I can get a brand new one for $400?

I realize it's not the best flagship, but it's also cheaper than all the rest. If I bought it I'd probably put a wood skin on it too to make it less ugly
>>
>>54927593
Get a z3 then. They are pretty cheap now.
>>
>>54927615
It's pretty great for the price, can't fault the specs on it.
>>
>>54927355
Tell us about memory usage, snappyness, multitasking and such would ya?

I'm starting to feel anxious getting 2gb of mem considering 2 years ahead at least. Right NOW I'd have no trouble with it I imagine but I dunno. Read tons of comments on how things use less mem, 5x has zram, compression tricks to make more use of it and shit but also the opposite. Slower type of ram as used in N5 and the usual over time bloat eating stuff up.
>>
>>54927402
>Sony phones have the best build quality what are you talking about?
Actually with that I was thinking about the z5c, which apparently has some heating issues. z5 premium probably doesn't suffer from that.
Know nothing about the X at the moment.

Also, for some reason sony (at least for the z5's) likes to use an apparently easily scratched plastic camera protector thingy.
Samsung's, like most others, use more scratch resistant glass.

It's a small thing, but an annoying one.
>>
>>54927469
I mean if you are buying the phone without a carrier you won't need to remove much crap.

I bought one without a carrier and didn't need a package disabler etc... then again I can't get dollars to buy apps so I haven't tried Nova launcher either but touchwizz seems fine to me.
>>
>>54927640
Yeah the two major downsides seem to be the screen and the build quality

but meh
>>
>>54927532
>>US Xperia loses out on fingerprint scanner (again) and waterproofing on the Performance
For what fucking purpose?
I get that there may be some convoluted fuckery with LTE carrier bands and what not, but a fingerprint scanner and WR?

What good reason could there possibly be to omit those in the US release?
>>
>>54927664
You still have social shit preinstalled and a bunch of samsung apps you may not want or need.
Nova has a free version.
>>
>>54927664
>but touchwizz seems fine to me.
What were you coming from before getting the samsung?
>>

The Chinks. It's made in China anyways.
>>

>>54927593
Do *not* drop your Z-Z5 phones. The tiniest crack kills the whole digitizer and thus your touch most times I've seen one. At best it cuts the touch from everything above/below the crack. Waterproofing is such a shit meme when they have to make them as durable as foam.
>>
Is the ZUK Z2 a joke?

It looks too perfect to be true.
It's Android though so there's a huge flaw with it to be sure.
Anyone know what's wrong with it before I get one?
>>
>>54927783
>Anyone know what's wrong with it before I get one?
Its made by Lenovo.
>>
>>54927704
From an LGG2 mini, never had a good phone. So maybe its just me. sorry

>>54927701

also is the free nova version worth it?
>>
>>54927754
>The tiniest crack kills the whole digitizer and thus your touch most times I've seen one.
Yeah I know, that's why I don't want a Sony anymore. This is its shittiest feature. Also if your Sony is even slightly bent then the Chinese displays won't stick properly. I don't care about waterproof, but they lift themselves on either side because Chinese displays are fucking hard and not flexible.

Why are there no good phones with 5", fhd and LTE band 20/800
>tfw europe
>>
>>54927251
It's not as battery efficient, nor as memory efficient (the 820)
On top of that you can root and flash the 8890.
The 820 has nothing. Not even a temp root available.
>>
>>54927502
That's actually good to know.
Do you have your's unlocked though?
>>
>>54926556
I mean it depends I find it fine, are you using FLACs and are picky with your music? If not then its allright but yeah HTC10 has better audio input
>>
>>54927883
Nope I haven't bothered rooting it yet. Only reason I normally do is to change dpi, debloat and block ads. Can do all those without root now so I'm happy.

NEED A NEW EMERGENCY PHONE

Samsung Galaxy Express 3 or Asus Zenphone 2?
>>

Yeah, that's actually pretty good.
From the research I've done (shitposting) it has near on of the best android cameras.

You may want to compare battery life though. LG hasn't always been the best at that

The X is going to kill sony.
It's priced as a flagship with mid range specs, and there are already people with overheating issues.
>>
>>54927812
But they also make ThinkPads. I had the same reservations, but they *can* make killer, utilitarian devices.
>>
>>54927515
Thanks mate, that solved a bunch of other issues I had with the available settings as well.

Still trying to find a manual brightness controller to the menu as well, but the automatic one does a pretty good job so that can wait for later.

>>54927660
I did fine with 1gb of ram on my old phone, only app that had issues with it was facebook and with 2gb I think it will be plenty fine. Its after all just a phone and a light media device so you don't need to do heavy tasks like on your pc.

Overall the phone feels very snappy and fluid in animations, and the delay is pretty low in comparison to my old experiences. Compared to the iPhone 6S I don't feel like its far behind in fluidity, and its the fastest android phone I have had to experience so far. (I worked with phones back in early 2015 and had a chance to try out the older generations of flagships back then). But sometimes the phone does take time to open up an app, mostly the camera app but that one is understandable. I do have an issue with some apps being "restarted" when I shift between apps if I don't access them directly through the task manager.

Migrating to new thread by the way. Continue discussion there if you want.

>>
>>54927817
>also is the free nova version worth it?
Yes, if you want to change a whole bunch of shit.
>>
>>54928111
You can disable them. Freeing up space on the system partition is useless as you can't make use of that space.
>>
>>54928013
Caterpillar.
>>
>>54923891
Well it can be for that, but so can any app with a camera feature. I like to post fun stories of me fucking around and my friends seem to like it. Also, celebrities post p good stories of what they're up to - you really just gotta find the good posters and not the typical selfie whore.
>>
>>54928942
Meh. Sounds pretty vapid tobh.
>>
>>54926174
2gb is enough now, especially having a clean rom. The future proofness doesn't look that bright considering that 4gb is the norm now and 6gb are shipped with upcoming flagships.
