/cyb/ - Cyberpunk General
"A generation later, we're living in a future that is both nothing like the Gibson future and instantly recognisable as its less stylish, less romantic cousin."
What are some cyberpunk things you've been working on or doing /g/? Any cyberpunk-esque moments you've had recently? What are some recommendations you have to noobies?
>> Discussion:
Circumventing surveillance
Encrypting your communications
Search engines that respect your freedoms
Mesh network technology
Build your own GSM network
Things for your smartphone
BBS
Public UNIX systems
Required reading
Etc.
Today I am working on shitposting in a cyberpunk thread
It's going well so far
It's been raining while at work and I was using vim, which I guess is kinda cyb.

Lainchan is not dead.
>>54872395
Someday I'd like to contribute to Freenet..
Right now I'm still too much concerned about getting gud.
How would one make their own GSM network?
>>54874154
8ch isn't dead either, google just stopped listing it. Unless you mean quiet.
Also does 4chan seriously spam filter 8ch? Holy crap, it does.
Well on my new docs consent form I signed that I didn't consent to being recorded. Take that, system.
Maybe these tips come handy here:
1. Use addons for security, privacy, browsing experience, etc.
2. Learn keyboard shortcuts and touch typing.
3. Don't save your password on a plaintext on your computer, create and remember one good main password and let a password manager like KeePassX that has autocomplete generate the rest.
3. Buy a router compatible with OpenWrt and install OpenWrt.
4. Have Live CD with GNU/Linux even if you don't plan to use it as your main OS, it comes handy when you need fixing your computer.
5. Actually try out GNU/Linux and ascend to a world were you can improve beyond a few tips.

Is firefox the /cyb/ browser of choice?
>>54879506
If you tweak it enough, but probably you should go with GNU IceCat that is modified for security.
>>54879296
Why is OpenWrt /cyb/?
>>54879620
Having your computer directly connected to the internet is like exposing a vein to a sewer anon. Better be safe than sorry.
>>54879668
But I'm unclear how OpenWrt protects me in any way besides my freedoms
>>54879696
You got a selection of tools to install aside from QaS the normal router can give. You can select the type of firewall, how the packages travel through your network, etc.
It has a package manager for you to explore (opkg) like any distro.
>>54879750
I see. I'll have to read into this. Any basic reading so I can even begin to comprehend this stuff?
>>54872395
Cyberpunk is for cucks
>>54879781
Read the wiki https://wiki.openwrt.org/start

Thanks for this post. HTTPS by default seems a tad better and faster than HTTPS Everywhere, although I do understand how they function differently, one forcing https by default the other using a gigantic list to check for https compatibilities.
Any way to play youtube etc without flash?
>>54884126
youtube-dl is an option that works from the terminal. MPV is another one that shines especially when coupled with a browser extension like Open With.
>>54884126
Shumway is an alternative to Flash for html5. It will eventually replace it but right now is not that great for youtube.
Or you can either use youtube-dl + mpv, or VLC Youtube Shortcut (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/vlc-youtube-shortcut/).

1. Use addons for security, privacy, browsing experience, etc.
>check
2. Learn keyboard shortcuts and touch typing.
>check
3. Don't save your password on a plaintext on your computer, create and remember one good main password and let a password manager like KeePassX that has autocomplete generate the rest.
>partly check
I have all password memorized.
Like for example:
4Ch4n;}1s;}Full;}0f;}F4gg0ts
or
Gma4l;}1s;}Full;}0f;}F4gg0ts
or
F4ceb00k;}1s;}Full;}0f;}F4gg0ts
easy to remember and yet pretty safe. Leet+First character big+some fance marks as spaces=easy and safe
3. Buy a router compatible with OpenWrt and install OpenWrt.
>how and why?
4. Have Live CD with GNU/Linux even if you don't plan to use it as your main OS, it comes handy when you need fixing your computer.
>check. I always have one 4gb with live-tails and 32gb for misc data/exchange purposes with me.
5. Actually try out GNU/Linux and ascend to a world were you can improve beyond a few tips.
>check

A logical sentence isn't a secure password even if it has letters swapped out
Better to have a series of random words
Will VR/AR usher in a new age of cyberpunk?
