there are already prototypes in SolidWorks and Inventor online.

The biggest group I see using these are still consultants and plugin developers but there is a lot of support on the vendor level as well. If you go to any of the conventions for 3D CAD these are everywhere now, especially architecture.

The cameras for recording aren't that great, what i see looks better from the recordings, also there's some article online about how the resolution isn't that high yet on these things after all its a dev kit.

Can't even leave them as the resolution they are have to take out the sound for 4chan and use miro video converter to make them into webms and shrink them a bit to keep them under 3mb.

Theres a few games on the windows store. I might be able to play some web games but the edge browser for this isn't that great it doesnt play WebMs and i haven't browsed a lot with it. Im downloading minecraft, i don't think it will be like the TV commercials but whatever.

unfortunately not yet. MS hasn't released the API for messing with the shell, basically making 3d widgets like they do. So for now you can only make single apps that show up one at a time and block out everything else.
I just might see if i can use the photo viewer for that.

I heard in it's current state it only has square radius that it displays stuff on which means trying to watch something like a bloated up video isn't possible without some of it being cut-off. Is this true?

Yes, the FOV is a small square that does cut off large windows. I think they'll make it bigger, right now its probably small because of the tech they used and initial alpha designing, its a dev kit etc. I do want it bigger but overall theres a 3d cat and tiger on my desk and when i take off my headset i wish they were there.

I wonder if i'll start hallucinating shit after using this for long periods of time.

There have been Free Software implementations of the same kind of system since forever.

Some kids at a University made a Quake mod where the map was overlaid on an actual floorplan of their building, and they would roam around shooting baddies.

I think it was in about 2005 or so, or even earlier. Read about it on Slashdot lo those many years ago.
