Why are gigabyte motherboards so durable?
Asrock is alright, Asus is shit, Biostar is pretty decent, but gigabyte is in a league of its own.
>>
>>52632743
Is this a meme or something? Every time I look up their motherboards, half the buyers complain about the boards being broken or not working in some way.
It does happen with all brands, but usually it's more along the lines of the typical DOA unit, not "half the RAM slots don't work" or "USB ports broke after a week".
>>
they also are hackintosh friendly
>>
>>52632839
Brother's ethernet port breaks constantly. Has to throttle it or it just loses connection.
>>
>>52632839
Op here.
I help out in the family pc repair shop and I will rarely see a gigabyte motherboard being brought in for warranty. It's usually ASUS, budget msi, or asrock.

I use the pic in the op. It's held my i7 870 at 4.2gHz for the past 4 years now with no signs of degradation and zero issues whatsoever.

I know when I upgrade I'm either going to buy a decent gigabyte motherboard.
>>
I literally dropped a weighted handled magnetic screwdriver on my gigabyte motherboard and had no issues.
>>
>>52632939
Either going to buy a decent gigabyte motherboard or a high end MSI.

Fuck it's 2:30AM here.
>>
>>52632839
My ultra durable is just fine after 9 years
>>
>>52632743
Ultra Durable anon, it's not just a meme.
>>
>>52632947
Isn't that more luck?
>>
>>52632743
>tfw my 'ultra durable' mainboard recently broke three months within warranty
Sure are durable.

Good guy gigabyte.
>>
>>52633103
Pretty sure two years on electronics are law in the EU.
>>
>tfw still own a fully functional gygabyte mbo from around 9 years ago
>>
>>52633081
You heard it here first anons, Gigabyte is completely shit becuase some anon reckons their board broke but didn't provide any evidence.

BUY ASROCK FROM NOW ON ANONS, THEY SURELY ARE BETTER.
>>
>>52632743
>P55A-UD3
I had that mobo, paired with i5 760 and HD58xx. Experiences with this mobo made me hate this brand, I had constant problems with RAM (stuck with 4x2GB because it failed to read any 4GB module) not mentioning shitty sound card and low quality IO ports.
>>
>>52632956

MSI is shit
>>
Z170 UD5-TH here, dropped my CPU cooler right onto it, not even a scuff. They're durable as fuck.

Who /GIGABYTE/ here?
>>
>>52633168
My i7 870 has zero problems with 2x4gb sticks.
The ram is overclocked from 1333 to something like ~1450mhz iirc.
Might have been your ram? Sometimes there will be the unexplained compatibility issue, with any brand. I've seen a laptop that wouldn't work with any ram except the sticks it came with, had to turn a customer down fromba ram upgrade and wasted a few hours plugging random ram modules in then going for a walk when it wouldn't work.
>>
>>52632743
Too bad the fan control sucks.

ASUS is better than ASRock.
Gigabyte is somewhere in between.

Pic related is GOAT, 7 years old and is still running with a triple 980Ti setup.
>>
>>52632947
This, except a friend did it, and than was like fuck thats a hardy motherboard. I like gigabyte, I have an ultra durable that's lasted 5 years now, and the 970 gaming's msi mobo I bought 4 months ago I am already warranting.
>>
>>52633147
>complaining about a shill post in a shill thread

Sure is the Gigabyte marketing team in here.
>>
>>52632939
>
Anecdotal, but my Asus P6T has been ticking a long quite nicely for 5 ish years.
>>
What's up with motherboard instructions being so short and shitty? There isn't even a big pdf only manual.

I have never had a MB fail on me so dunno what to say about durability.
>>
>>52633354
>6 ram slots
>>
I've only ever owned and recommended MSI or ASUS.
My oldest MSI board was from 2009 and it's still functioning with an AMD Phenom 965.
More recently I have a MSI z97 Krait, generic MSI H81m, and ASUS z97 ITX board.

All functioning as intended. Aside from manufacturing errors, how do people break motherboards?
>>
>>52633430
Triple channel son, socket b is great
>>
>>52633354
>Asus
>better than anything
Asus is literally a meme brand.

>>52633430
>I'm so young I can't remember LGA1366
>>
Ive had an issue with my asus m5a99fx, had to RMA it. Worked fine for almost a year, their tech support is also very shit.
>>
>>52633354
Asus was king in the core 2 days. I use ASRock now days.
>>
>>52633386
I understand where you're coming from as a consumer, but as someone who makes a living fixing them, I get a fair bit of ASUS motherboards that spontaneously died. At least with the MSI ones a cmos reset will fix it, but I've never been able to revive an Asus motherboard brought in for repair and I get them almost as much as the shitty aud 60 asrocks.
>>
What's going on with Asrock? I'm going to upgrade my old Asrock to another Asrock after almost 7 years, and I think I never had an issue. Not shilling, just asking why not asrock.
>>
I have never had an Asus fail on me.
In fact my mother still uses my old E6600 system fine and I am thinking of upgrading her because I cannot find PATA drives at a reasonable price no more.
>>
so we all agree then, asus is shit.
>>
>>52633281
I tried to solve this problem for months. i5 760 supports up to 16 GB of 1066 and 1333MHz modules so i tried several brands, frequencies, clocks. Updating and tinkering with bios was no go. Same with fresh OS instalation. In the end i just ran with 4x2GB untill I replaced it.
Right now I have generic MSI with Z97 chipset, so far not a single problem occured.
>>
Asus used to have the worst download servers ever. Thankfully they use some cloud shit now.
>>
>>52633545
Asrock is fine, but their budget boards tend to be more problematic than most.

>>52633573
Asus was a lot better in the core2 days.

>>52633576
Asus is shit.
Shit motherboards and shit graphics cards. See pic, asus gtx 960 pulling 250w from the pcie. Also shit AMD coolers.
>>
>>52633539
>anecdotal
Yeah my sample size is 2 asus boards from 5 years ago. Not relevant in the slightest
>>
>>52633654
Never said it wasn't relevant. I apologise if that's how my words were interpreted. I'm just saying I've seen more Asus motherboards go bad than other brands, in my repair shop.
>>
>>52633617
So, what's the money of the bugdet boards, like 50-70$? Or how much?
>>
>>52633829
Not sure about American prices, but I'm talking about their aud 60 h81 microATX boards.
>>
>>52633877
I'm planning to get the z170 pro4. I don't plan on OCing in the future, ut neither I discard it. I think it is a good mobo for that price, like. . .close to high end?
>>
I still have GA-P35-DS3L - shit works like new. My next mobo for sure will be Gigabyte.
>>
>>52632743
ASUS master race. always bought ASUS, never had problems. maybe you're buying the cheap shit?
>>
They all have good and bad MBs just that simple. I.E Some people compare this ASUS Z97-E/USB3.1 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard -------------to------------- GIGABYTE GA-X99-UD5 WIFI LGA 2011-v3 Intel X99 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard and act like they should be same. When any reasonable human knows that is not the case at all
>>
>>52633354
My P6T brother. Still going strong.
>>
It's made from recycled nokia 3310s

No seriously, my anecdote doesn't apply, kek. It's a tiny sample size from half a decade ago
>>
>>52634251
>little brother had a shit computer
>buy him a p6t and an i7 960
Based
>>
I ocd my core 2 duo, smelt some burning, checked the board. Big black mark on it. I panicked, returned to stock temp, and it ran like a charm for 4 more years until i upgraded.

It's worth buying Gigabyte just for the packaging. ULTRA DURABLE JAPANESE SOLID CAPACITORS! Makes you feel like you bought a really awesome product.
>>
>>52634460
I see
>>
>>52632743
>Asus is shit

I was originally going to get Asus, then I heard they were ass and bought MSI instead

Did I do good /g/?
>>
>>52637141
No. You didn't get gigabyte.
