I'm new to this, and this is my first attempt at a build (based heavily on logicalincrements) so feel free to rip me apart. Looking to make a PC for gaming, video editing, and programming (potential VM usage). Budget $1000-1500.

Is there a way I can upgrade this for 400 dollars or less?
4690k + Asus H97-M = $319 at microcenter.
Reuse memory and video card.
Enjoy a power quadcore that is only 3% weaker than skylake.

K i-series CPU + H97 Mobo
>>52482171
Microcenter doesn't sell 4690 non-K
But the $20 bundle discount makes it equivalent to a 4690 price-wise.
>>52482213
You're gimping yourself for 20$, you could get a Z mobo and actually OC that 4690k

>overclocking
okay son, you can spend $20 so you can go-fast.
don't forget to paint red stripes on your case too!

Did I fuck up /g/ ? I still need to get a case and the video card.
Got some new parts, gonna start putting it together in a minute. Can I just insert the Windows 7 disk and enter the key and the old one on the old hard drive will be disabled?

kinda.
You went with a ganked "8-core" processor that won't really benefit you much - even in video editing and rendering.
But it's not the end of the world. AMD is still solid for gaming.

I will build this in the spring, mainly for design work(3d, photoshop animation and some games).
Just ordered this...first time I've spent a grip on a PC....still deciding on either water cool or some other fan (suggestions requested).

You do realize 1 980 Ti is stronger than 2x970's right? And only $30 more expensive.
Is it safe to just pick and choose shit from this site?

Literally the only thing from me pulling the trigger on my purchase.

My PSU just died (because I was a dumb fuckface and I cheaped out on it) so now I'm getting an RM750i.
Then I decided to also grab a new case since I'm fucking done with my Z11 plus, so I'm getting an NZXT H440.
Did I do good? I'm mostly interested in the PSU since I don't want it to die on me again.
