Haven't had a computer for 2 years. I've been using a phone. I'm even posting from my phone now. Enrolling in EMT classes in a few months go better my life and need a laptop for general use (and maybe light gaming like League of Legends). I don't want a laptop but my situation (I don't have a stable home) calls for something portable. I'm.constantly packing up and moving from place to place.
Can you guys recommend me a good performance laptop that isn't going to need upgrading anytime soon? Preferably in the range of $500-700 I've been looking and can't make up my mind. I wish I could just build a desktop but I'm not in a situation where I can.
Thank you guys I never post here but do lurk occasionally.

Acer is good for that price range. Get something withouth dedicated gpu, integrated intels can run light gaming well enough and dont eat as much battery.
You want 13" or 15"?

If homeslice doesn't have a stable housing situation he doesn't want a dedicated GPU. He probably wants something lightweight with as much batter life as possible.

15 inch please and thank you guys for the replies so far.
I'm not big on gaming and haven't played anything in 2 years beside casual Xbox one stuff. I do believe any gaming I want to do will suffice with integrated graphics. I don't want to invest much as my end goal is to get through classes, get a better job, become stable and eventually build something nice. I've waited 2 years I can wait longer

How much laptop functionality do you really need OP? Would Google Docs be enough? Its just when people ask about cheap laptops these days my mind instantly goes to a Chromebook.
There's a guy on my area craigslist selling this:
