>buying more then a 550w for a single gpu setup

oh /gee/
>>
>>52378380
>not having 10 HDDs that need 850W to spin up
>>
It's actually quite easy to approach 550w with a single GPU setup.
>>
>>52378411
Yeah if you're some AMD poorfag peasant
>>
>>52378452
I overclock my i7-4790k and my two 980 Tis. I think I draw close to 1000Ws from the wall, probably around the mid 900W range. Y'all niggaz forget how much power the 980 Tis draw over the smaller Maxwells.
>>
I over clock my 8320 and R9 380X
I had to replace my 550W because it drew too much power.
>>
650 gold fully modular is the best for single GPU. your psu dies after a length of time.
>>
>>52378380
Tell that to my Titan.
>>
>>52378506
It degrades over time. If you draw close to the maximum rating of the PSU, you will degrade the components' lifespan significantly. That's why it's always better to have a PSU that's rated 150-175% higher than your actual need if you plan using the build for over 5 years. If you have a PSU that has an active fan profile and it's spinning up frequently, you might want to consider getting a better PSU or lower the voltage/clock on your CPU or GPU.
>>
>>52378496
>>52378411
>>52378525
>>52378538

Yeah this is false. Look at my old friend Linus video to see how much power he draws FROM THE WALL with dual 570s. The same shit still applies today and if anything we have BETTER power consumption then back then.
>>
>>52378496

You must of got a very shitty PSU. I have a 550w 80+ gold on my heavily OC'd i5 2500k + r9 280x + OC'd ram and my 550W is more then enough.
>>
>>52378708

Forgot link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKk2_1u26tg
>>
>>52378708
Actually an overclocked 980ti can use much more power than a stock 580.
And most 980ti's come with a pretty hefty OC
>>
>>52378538
That's only if you're planning to run it at load for extended periods of time.
Under normal use a PC should be using less than half of it's max power consumption ~70-80% of the time.
>>
>>52378475
>and my two 980 Tis
>SINGLE GPU SETUP

KILL YOURSELF YOU FUCKING RETARD
>>
1000w masterrace reporting
>>
>>52378452
My 390X runs from a 450W psu without problems. Power draw rarely exceeds 400W.
>>
my 5930k and 980 ti can draw 850w constant load if i open up prime95 small fft and run occt gpu.

normal gaming load is around 250~300w.
>>
how useful is eco mode? should I turn it on or off?
>>
>>52378872
I dont think his point is that an AMD card will use that much, it was more, if that person is getting the power consumption he reports form a single card, it's probably AMD since AMD's high end 300 series with the exception of the nano use about 70-100 watts more than their maxwell equivalent under normal load.
>>
>>52378380
I genuinely don't know if /g/ is memeing or just retarded these days. Might be time to go outside.
>>
>not buying 650w+ so when you eventually do need to upgrade to a bigger and better range of GPUs/CPUs or other components, you likely won't need to buy another PSU just to use them

shiggy
>>
>>52378380
Okay senpai. I'll just be sitting here enjoying the silence because the fan on my semi-passive 750W unit doesn't ever spin up.

>muh fully-passive!!!

Yeah, like I'm going to pay more for an inferior unit that offers no room for future expansion.
>>
>>52378872
You have a 450W psu with 50A +12V rail(s)?
>>
>>52379133
I dont think that's mathematically possible.
>>
>>52379227
Well the average 390X pulls 300W and requires 50A, so...

Shit, it's a 480W unit. My bad. It delivers up to 456W on 12V and I mixed it up.
>>
>>52379299
Nice!
>>
>>52379299
That's a really efficient powersupply
>>
>>52379319
Was 95€ so it better be. Also love how silent it is.
>>
>>52379330
Shit that power supply retails in the US for 176€.
>>
>>52379363
Well it is a german brand.
>>
>>52378411

>4790k max load
>980ti max laod
>3 HDD and SSD max load
>450 watts

Yeah no.
>>
>>52378708
You should slit your throat.
>>
Not getting a 850W PSU for the option of adding a second card down the track.
>>
>>52378728
Bought a Corsair AX-650w years ago
Feels good to know itll last me quite a few more years, most likely untill it wont support new motherboards and such
>>
>>52379959
>most likely untill it wont support new motherboards and such
Should be good for a decade or more. You can still use ancient PSUs perfectly fine with modern gear with a few adapters
>>
>>52378380
Im running 8800GT on a 1200W PSU bud.
And a I nave another one sitting in a box new.
Dont ask how i got them.
>>
>>52379948
>adding a second card down the track.
This has never been economical unless you throw your old gpu in the bin when you buy a new one..
>>
>>52378475
A 6700K and two 980 Tis draw maximum 600W from the wall. Get a brain faggot.
>>
>>52378411
This desu
I run 2x3.5HDDs, 1x2.5HDD, 1xSSD, 6 usb devices, network card, OCd 2500k and an R9 390x on 650W power supply no problem.
>>
>>52380000
what? it's called budgeting. some people manage money differently.

I could buy two cards now if I wanted. Or I could buy one, see if I'm happy with its performance on its own over a period (say 12 weeks) and then decide if I want to wait until the next sale to grab another.
>>
I'm pretty sure I overspent on the PSU, but I figured at the time that if there was any one component to overspend on, it was that.
>>
I have a seasonic 520 watt 12II evo. I have 3 hdds, 4790k, micro atx mobo, mouse/kb usb devices and that's it. Whats the max single gpu I can use?
>>
>>52380060

Any gpu, you just can't really oc much.
>>
Guys, which one PSU i must choose for 3770K, 2 x 290X, 2 x HDD setup? Will Corsair 860i be enought?
>>
>>52379986
yup, pretty much

Its not a bad power supply at all, even by todays standards
>>
what are the power requirements going to be on new gen graphics cards? Lower or higher?
>>
>all these retards trying to justify there 1000w psu with there single 980ti setup
>>
>>52380201
Lower. 14nm

>>52380174
Go with something 850W for non OC. With OC Super Flower Leadex Platinum 1000W.
>>
>>52380246
here op, get BTFO

cpu is at idle btw, i can make it go 850w if i load up prime at the same time
>>
>>52378847
This is bait.
>>
>>52378380
>not buying a better gpu than you need to itll last longer
>>
>>52380455
>gpu
i mean psu
>>
>>52380410
>occt is my favourite gaym

How about real world power usage.
>>
>>52380410

Let me guess, you did a bios unlock for your voltage to go higher then normal.

GTFO

Also you're only pulling under 550W from your power supply you fucking moron. You have to factor in 90% efficiency from the wall.

Either way don't do a bios unlock for your voltage and you DON't need more then a 550w for single gpu's

good goyim
>>
>ITT: people that don't know the difference between 'then' and 'than'

>>52380612
90% efficiency means it loses 10% in the conversion from the wall, meaning it draws 10% more than rated.
>>
>>52380603
i said above real world usage is around 200~300w gaming. that isn't the point though. at no point should your components be able draw more than what the psu can provide, normal use or not.

>>52380612
>Let me guess, you did a bios unlock for your voltage to go higher then normal.

it's the stock voltage lol. afterburner doesn't even support changing my cards voltage.

>Also you're only pulling under 550W from your power supply you fucking moron. You have to factor in 90% efficiency from the wall.

that's only the gpu. the cpu is idle.

>Either way don't do a bios unlock for your voltage and you DON't need more then a 550w for single gpu's

with all these conditions why don't you just spend an extra $20 and buy a 850w unit?

you got the settings wrong. you need to change the shaders to 7 and enable error checking.

the last 290x i tested drew over 650w from the wall from that test so i'm guessing your fury x will hit either 700w or 800w or outright throttle.

This is my build, is the 850W stupid decision or not enough? I was about to go for a 600-650W psu but my brother told me that 650 was the bare minimum
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/6fntP6
>>
>>52382436
dont listen to your brother!
you would actually do fine even with a good 500w psu.
get a solid 650w one if you still want to be on the safe side.

gpus and hardware in general need less and less power with each new generation, so your 650w will be "future proof" for quite a while.
