the only place where on the desk is more practical is in a lab or cubicle farm type venue where they are more prone to getting kicked plus the IT guys need to access them quickly and more ergonomically.

Airflow shit says to avoid carpet floors for better circulation, so I guess that would effect my answer. I would usually put it under because I don't like the look of on top. The less cluttered/more organized my desk is the more psychologically and physically relaxed I can be.

My desk is a door on two sawhorses. No room for it on the floor and my floor is carpeted.

This. Put the case parallel to the wall, now you can reach audio and usb ports, optical drives and you open the case at any time.

Why has nobody mentioned that having a huge desktop on your desk makes your microphone both vibrate and pick up your fans? I bought a microphone so that I didn't have a buzzing, vibrating sound in my audo. Wouldn't having the computer on top defeat the point lf this?

So I have actually always put mine under the desk until someone on /g/ asked me why the fuck I do that.

I didn't really question it up to that point, I just did it how my parents used to do it.
I thought that person on /g/ was obviously right -> if you have enough space, putting them on the desk is better. It is obviously less dirty on the desk, that means you won't have to clean the computer as often. You also have an easier time doing regular cleaning under your desk because nothing gets in the way. The most importnat thing however is it's also super compfy if you want to work on the machine or just plug/unplug cables and it's not a pain in the ass to put cables behind the desk.

When it comes to noise:
I use none of my Computers to play games that make it run loud, I use it to brows, watch shit, manage files, write shit and sometimes to draw shit. I also use one for video cutting but it is only loud when it is rendering or converting files, even then it is not crazy loud and I don't think it would be a lot different if I where to put in under the desk.

When it comes to aesthetics:
I honestly don't have a problem to go full cyberpunk distopia and be surrounded with zip tied cable bundels everywhere.
