I mean, it's complete shit all-round. What exactly are you planning on using it for? The APU isn't going to be doing any gay men, especially with shitty slow RAM like that, yet is overkill for a HTPC.

That's fucking stupid. You could build a system with a GTX 950 for $100 less than your build that would absolutely crush it in terms of performance, just by not doing dumb things like buying a 480GB SSD.

>muh VRAM

Enjoy your APU, you dumb shithead.
>>
>>52239672
Do you have to insult to get your point across?

anyway you included a 240 gb ssd when i obviously had a 480 and you didn't even include a cpu cooler or any fans, and i already said i only wanted light gaming if im getting a gpu im getting a good gpu not a budget gpu. Plus you didnt even include a network adapter o wait you cant cause your precious gpu uses the only pcie port, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2MKrZL this is the real cost.
>>
>>52240227
>cause your precious gpu uses the only pcie port
So build in a bigger fucking case.
I swear, some people.
>>
>>52240261
i obviously dont want to you fucking prick, you havent even shown me the worth of getting that gpu and cpu which is 70$ more than the APU for no apparent reason. What do you think that im trying to build a tower computer? No im building a small lightweight computer that isnt that expensive with atleast 480 gb because i dont need a fucking gpu. If i was going to do ATX then i definitely wouldn't act like a little poor piece of shit that has to settle for 240 gb and a APU. No i would get this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Ynjx7P. Like goddamn cant you guys just not act like elitist shits and build for fun for once.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/s43T23 I have a hard budget of 1012 dollars and am wondering if I made the right choices for a computer that is going to be used for streaming, compiling, video editing, gaming and everything else there is. The gpu has to be an amd because they have the features I need in their drivers that nvidia's cards don't. (eg wine patches and wayland)
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2fKMjX
The Titan X just needs to stay. It just.
Main concerns are the motherboard and the 8gb of ram (Should i just eat $30 for 16gb? will it help in the future?)

The parts on the build ARE what you're spending your money on; don't use some shitty cop-out like that.

So actually listen to what people are saying for once. Here's a god damn 380X, and it's over $30 cheaper than your original build.

Case: Thermaltake F51 Suppressor

Motherboard: Asus Rampage V Extreme

CPU: Intel i7 5930k

CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS12X

GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 980

Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB 4 x 8GB + cooling fans

I'll install Windows 8.1 on a relatively small SSD and put everything else on a 2TB HDD. I'll also be getting a blu-ray reader/writer drive. Need to figure out how big my power supply will need to be.
>>

Are the pre-builds/guides on pcpartpicker worth a damn? I've assembled PCs before and bought parts based on a lot of advice and guidance, but I'm not too knowledgeable on the parts themselves.
I need to build a new one from scratch, aiming for a budget high end one mostly for games but also some graphical work at about approx 900eur or so but not too sure where to start as I haven't kept up with tech since last time I had to look into it was years ago
>>
>>52247640
>Are the pre-builds/guides on pcpartpicker worth a damn?
not really, they tend to use shitty storage. you're better off modifying the build and posting it on /g/ or /wsr/ for feedback. you'll get better advice here, if you ignore the odd troll
>>
>>52247656
Fair enough. I did a little bit of looking around and came across http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ZGdb7P which seems to be close to what I'm looking for. What should I look into more indepth to try and improve? 1TB isn't too much of an issue as I have an external HDD for large stuff storage.

Also, if there's anything with great value the I could shell out a little more instead of any of these parts
>>
>>52247902
change the hdd to a hitachi one and you're good to go. if you have just a tiny bit more money, you could get a samsung ssd which offers 5 years warranty over the 3 years of sandisk. otherwise it looks alright, though i'd go with a 600w psu if you want to oc.

unless you're doing video editing and 3d renderen (i.e. not just video games), you don't need the hyperthreading of the i7. when overclocked, the i5-6600k is faster than the i7-6700. and it's 100 dollars less.
if you do decide to get the i7, you don't need a fucking watercooler, since you can't overclock it anyway. it will run fine with the stock cooler.
i would also avoid kingston, due to bad business practices and wd due to the high failure rates this year. get corsair for ram and hitachi/hgst for storage

you'd be lucky to get more than 100mhz BLCK out of it. they're sold as 'locked' for a reason. my point still stands, the 6600k is cheaper and performs better than the 6700.
the only benefit the i7 has is hyperthreading, which is not very useful for video games.

You haven't been keeping up with the latest news.

Z170 bios updates decouple BLCK from anything other than the CPU and RAM which means you can get to about 140 without issue.

The only time I've ever seen ram cooling as necessary was when heavily and I mean HEAVILY overclocking ram. When ddr3 2666mhz kits were a thing, I saw people running those kits clocked to 3100mhz at 1.87v. Cooling was necessary.

Recently there was a ddr4 kit that hit 4500mhz I think. 1.55v. Well above the starting 1.2 or 1.35v. Cooling becomes slightly necessary to not bake the ram.

Other than that? no. not at all.

How's this build? Any suggestions/criticism is much appreciated.

This'll be used for music production and general use/browsing. The integrated graphics is enough so I don't really care about a video card.

This is the cheapest 4gb 380, it's $211, probably what you should get. It's good quality.

You could probably find something cheaper with only 2gb, but that would be a bad idea in my opinion.

Not awful at all, but you are overspending in certain areas where you would be better suited using the money to upgrade to an i7.

Also, I have some doubts about how to install the wifi adapter on the motherboard.

Oh, and your build is using sapphire's old 390, which has a lower speed and is more expensive because it's out of production.

Here is how your build should look.

I just put the 390 that had the image of the actual card so the list looked better. I'm getting the new model with backplate. The i5 is there because this is mainly a gaming PC, doesn't really need an i7. Also the prices are irrelevant as I live in Europe.
>>
>>52269073
It's pci. It installs the same way as a GPU or sound card.

Should I upgrade my gtx 760 or try to find it a partner card? I have a 750w PSU.

Also have another PC with a 430w psu, if I took out the 760 would I be able to run it using that with an amd 760k?
>>

Hoping to game at 1440p with maxed settings at 60+fps, but I'm worried about the Titan X. I know I'm overdoing it on the PSU and MOBO, but I'd rather not upgrade them for a while. I plan to OC to 4.5GHz.
>>
>>52241979
A10-7850k can do 1080p on low or medium settings.
>>
>>52271650
Throw that totan in thr trash and get a 980ti/Fury X

The Titan is a horrible idea for what you want to do. also the 980ti beats it out in most cases.

DigitalFoundy made a video comparing a build with that processor to the PS4 and the PS4 was kicking ass.

That dual core Celeron couldn't even launch some games without a patch and it ran like shit when any CPU intensive task arose...

Take your cpu cooler and WiFi card in the trash. Get something utiilizing 120/140mm (single is fine) fan so its much quieter.
Grab a 802.11ac capable wifi card, you shouldnt have to spend over 40.

First time builder here. I need a PC for 3d modeling, image editing, and gaming. This is what I've come up with so far.

I don't know if there are any incompatibilities. The only thing I'm concerned about is my PSU. Pcpartpicker tells me the machine's wattage is 374W, but my PSU is 750W. The reason for this is that I'm trying to take into consideration USB power as well as potential future upgrades. Also, the 750W wasn't a far price jump from 600W.

Any thoughts? I am planning to order parts soon because my classes start next week.

Despite my surge protector, a power surge seems to have killed my Radeon 7970. Black squares all over the screen on boot and all that jazz.

What's the most decent AMD graphics card for the cheapest price that's as good as or better than the 7970? I was originally just going to get another 7970 to replace it, but given that it's five years old, it seems to have reached the point at which it's no longer cost effective/convenient to find that exact card.
>>
>>52274660
R9 380. $180-200.
>>
>>52274720
Will the R9 380 be able to run pretty much any game on max settings? Because I also need to justify to myself not spending an extra $150 on the R9 390, since I'm going to be using whatever I buy for years.
>>
So I'm going to be stuck with my CPU integrated graphic card for a month or two while I take care of some unexpected expanses, anything I should know about those?
>>
>>52274802
On 1080p, I would assume so yes so long as the CPU is up to speed. Really depends on the game though.

390 would do everything better and allow you to go up to 1440p on a lot of things.

380x is the cheapest card that's actually as good as the 7970. 380 is basically the same as 285, which is on par with/slightly better than the 7950.

>380 is basically the same as 285, which is on par with/slightly better than the 7950
The 7970 came out five years ago. How could the 380, which came out last year, not be even as good as a five-year-old graphics card?
>>
>>52239418
Putting a wheel on each corner and riding it to work.
>>
>>52275210
285 is PLP eyefinity enabled, slightly lacking the horsepower though. Shame really.
>>
>>52275306
a)GPU technology doesn't advance as quickly as it used to. It's been 5 years and we're still on the 28nm node
b)7970 is a flagship card, 380 is midrange.
>>
>>52275210
>>52275355
280x was essentially a 7970.

380 is on par with the 285, which was above the 280x. Please do research.

285 was a replacement for the 280, not above 280x. AMD just used a confusing naming scheme.

Why can't AMD just go back to higher numbers = better?
>>
>>52275570
That's what they've been doing. Problem is, they introduced tonga mid-generation. WIth 280 being on par with it and 280 being more powerful than the cut-down tonga, there really weren't any options left that wouldn't have been confusing.
