AMD CARDS AND USERS BTFO
>all these juicy tweeds
This is why you should pay more and go team green.
Didnt nvidia also release a driver one upon a time that caused cards to die? Shit happens. Bottom line is always be somewhat weary when making a hardware, software of driver change. If i overclock my cpu, you better beleive im using my pc with extra scrunity after to look for issues.
When i get new gpu drivers i want to see the affect on performance and temps.
If you care about your PC and are the slightest bit responsible, 99% of these kinds of issues can be outright avoided.
>fix still not out
>defective drivers are still available for download
>people are receiving their black friday gpus TODAY
I get how this is partly AMDs fault, but at the same time, this only happens if you use the overdrive feature, and if you are overclocking your GPU, why the fuck would you NOT be keeping track of temps?
Back in my day if you overclocked too much and it died it was your own fucking problem.
no, but when I OC i for damn sure check fan speed and temps for stability and I also run stress tests to make sure the OC is stable.
I guess kids these days are fucking retarded, not only do they overclock without knowing what the fuck they are doing, they expect AMD to pay for a replacement card when it's their own fucking fault.
It's doesn't matter since Nvidrones have already latched onto this and it will be their favorite meme for the next 5 years, but this is only effecting people who OC or used a third party GPU controller and didn't reset the setting before installing Crimson. Also AMD cards have throttling so there's basically no way to brick them with vidya.
390x master race reporting. Everything runs better after update u fuckn nvidia fagots
My 7950s with 1GHZ bios overclocked to 1100/1300 got to 73 degrees!
That was my subtle point. Crimson/Win10 even beats my previous best on earlier beta drivers and Win7.
yea, idk how this would kill the gpu. even with the fan on minimum, it's hard to get it to go over 100c because it just throttles.
I've started the gpu without a heatsink briefly and it got up to 200c and still was fine afterwards. I think people are just trying to scam amd into giving them free graphics cards.
>I've started the gpu without a heatsink briefly and it got up to 200c
ATI user here.
Damn, I feel bad for you guys.
When NVidia did it, I thought it was just incompetence.
Aggressive marketing my ass, this is sabotage of personal property.
But there's nothing that can stop them from doing it, except their good will.
Can always claim that it wasn't intentional or whatever, and win every case.
Makes me really sad. Corporations really are heartless.
someone give me a (You) when the new drivers drop
MADFAGS ON SUICIDE WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!
Not even the stock market believes this PEBKAC. Eat Shit, novideo scum.
NVidia had the same issue in 2010
AMD is already releasing hotfixes, and it's only 3 of the newer GPU's
no problems for me.
dat madshills defending this whole fiasco
pic related: AMD has facilities in Israel. :^)
>this only happens if you use the overdrive feature
You mean, accept the EULA? Because that's the only thing you need to tick and you'll never be able to get rid of Overdrive again.
>it throttles VRMs
AMDkeks getting crazier by the minute, most VRMs start breaking down at 125c.
Also, I'm doubting the legitimacy of your story. 200c is impossible.
stop lying amdkek
You cant get out of the driver hell, your card is going to die soon. Sell it now and get a real gpu.
i would fucking switch if i could i am fucking tired of shitty driver the 390 is a 330 dollar card is better than the 970 spec wise its just why have a good card if fucking drivers are always shit and you cant use the god damn thing
>people still defending Nvidia after the 3.5GB story
>people keep on defending Nvidia with Gameworks shitting on gaming performance without giving back good graphical improvements
>people keep on defending Nvidia with Geforce Experience forcing them to register and entering the cloud to get up to date drivers
Possibly a stupid question but if I have an afterburner profile set on boot will this issue affect my GPU? I have set the fan curve myself, and if it applies the settings on boot then my guess is it overrides the crimson fan lock problem just like it overrides catalyst settings.
Haven't really looked into all this, and neither do I have time to test due to a slew of deadlines so I'm not playing games or anything.
>being anally devastated over getting a taste of his own medicine.
Overdrive overwrote my custom fan profile in Afterburner when I had the bug a while ago. It happened only once, though, next reboot the fan speed matched Afterburner no problem.
There's still a problem, but if you measure your GPUs all the time it shouldn't be a problem. I noticed when my temps were suddenly spiking into the lower 80s while the fan speed stayed immobile.
My 270x idles at 30% and goes up under load
I guess other then having a 270x Im ok
I don't think people have a grasp on how tough graphics cards are. In my htpc, I had an old hd 4870 that I cool with a passive cooler (the arctic cooling one). It can get to like ~100c on 60 fps video and it's already almost a decade old and shows no sign of stopping. It's expendable at this point, so I don't even care if it dies, but it refuses to die.
These aren't fragile chips that need to be babied to stay alive. Quite the opposite, they can take huge amounts of punishment. And people are being scammed into buying exotic thermal pastes thinking it will help in some way.
Accepting the agreement is all that stands between anyone and Overdrive, and I've heard unconfirmed reports of people having bugs even without ever accepting any of that horseshit. It's always bloody there, try overclocking on Trixx or Afterburner, then switch to Overdrive, which has now magically copied the clocks of those programs. But what if it goes wrong? what if Overdrive bugs out again and fails to or incorrectly takes over settings from other OC software?
>paying more for less
>defending false advertising
Should have got a 290 for 4k and not worry about slipping into the game-crippling .5gb or getting jewed out the ass desu senpai
>being forced into a higher priced card
Hardly a solution when you have to pay extra
>>being forced into a higher priced card
>Hardly a solution when you have to pay extra
but you will get a better driver faster than AMD ever could.
Unless you want to support Israel? Please buy another AMD card. :^)
Would you recommend buying AMD stock after the possible crash? I know nothing about the stock market but I feel like AMD has great growth potential. Even if it won't grow I dont think the price can go much lower than it currently is at. Also, if AMD gets bought by another company, wouldnt the share price go up?
>shit fucks up
At least they're fixing it, how long did it take nvidia to respond to anything?
>3.5gb still not fixed
>drivers killing laptops
>drivers making fermi cards explode
I already accepted the agreement so I cant show you that step but this is whats involved before you can use Overdrive in Crimson.
Though I don't have any problem with relying on a 3rd party OC program, just saying I dont have any issues with my limited OC capability
>seldom release drivers
>when they do, they burn your house down
>there are people out there that were waiting for directx 12 to magically enhance their cards. Their cards literally burned down before it arrived.
