Is Lenovo still a trustworthy brand or is that rootkit bullshit still an issue?

I wanted to get a Thinkpad X1 Carbon but I may just go with the Dell equivalent if Lenovo is still being a dick about things.

Still a good brand to go with?

Jesus. Who the fuck should I go with then for a laptop with good build quality?
>>
Can't you just install a fresh OS to get rid of stuff like that?
>>
>>51599328
Well, no. Apparently, that shit works on a bios-level.
>>
>>51599272
Asus, they have solid thinkpad copies
>>
>>51599137
That is not an issue any more, they stopped doing it when shit hit the fan
>>
This fucking sucks. I literally don't know what laptop is good now and I really would like a new one to replace my aging HP from 2009. I want:
>at least 1080p resolution
>back-lit keyboard
>minimum screen size of 15"
>will last at least 5 years without becoming a slow buggy piece of shit
Budget is about $1200 max. As much as I abhor Apple and everything they represent a Macbook might be my only real option.
>>
>>51599368
>software stored on the hdd is bios level

Fuck off retard.
>>
>>51599483
>implying Apple doesn't do worse

Dell's fuck up at least doesn't reinstall itself if you install a clean windows image, unlike Lenovo's.

You shouldn't worry about either of those in any case, they've both been acknowledged, talked about a lot and fixed.

I'd still go for Dell over Lenovo, but they're both ok.
>>
>>51599671
Did you just say to not worry about it anymore? L oh fucking L.
Be vigilant and dont let your guard down. They will only publicly tell you the Vulnerabilities that make public attention.

Only answer is to flash your own firmware and freedom respecting computing. (ex libreboot x200, or x60, foss/h)
>>
>>51599774
I mean, don't worry about either of those, if you truly care about this kind of shit then use a different OS entirely, get a different older pc which supports a custom bios as you said so yourself.

Those 2 tiny specific issues aren't a concern anymore, there's probably plenty of others waiting to be found, it's windows after all.
>>
>>51599137
Just buy Microsoft Signature Edition laptops.
>>
>>51599638

are you fucking retarded?
>>
>>51599483
Get a laptop from the microsoft store if the laptop become slow it will your fault or get bussness laptop, any pro laptop from hp with an ips screen, t,w serie from lelnovo if ips and whatever is the good segment of the dell pro line.
>>
>>51599517
Its a rootkit virus you idiot.
>>
>>51599137
This shady software never affected the thinkpad product line.
