Really, the best formula is a combination of clocks /and/ timings. A low clock with low timings is not ideal, likewise, a high clock with high timings is also not good.

1600MHz is generally where the advantages of high memory clock are maxed out. get a 1600MHz kit with low timings.

i also believe DDR4 hits this wall at 2666MHz

Higher hz is better. Fallout 4 gets a 25% framerate boost when going from 1300 to 2100 iirc
