What is the most expensive piece software you legally own?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Corel draw x6 $150
Also AutoCAD LT from 07 that was like $600 or $700
Every thing else is open source, freeware, or pirated (adobe suite)

Holy fuck why would you invest in that. You could easily torrent it dont tell me you bought your DAW too.

You can only legally own a fsf approved software. All other proprietary software that you buy are, license to operate purchase only, which can be revoked if you tamper with the software or redistribute it.

a $60 game. everything else i pirate or get for free through dreamspark.
>>
>>51515490

Not everything is available for free.
I also have damn well near 100k in actual hardware. What little I've spent on software is pretty trivial.

When my studio was less than 10k of course everything was pirated shit.
>>
>>51515584
I'm just saying because I too have Virtual Instruments and a whole other load of libraries but all torrented. But I guess the amount you pay IS small compared to your hardware. Link to your sound cloud?

Adobe CS6 Master Collection (business bulk license so I have keys for both Windows and OS X)

Funny enough back when I had literally nothing I was the most active and cared the most for others to hear what I made ( no matter how horrible it was ).
Now that I have the best equipment I ever had in my life I literally just dick around and obsess over details no one will see or hear.

The student version of ArcGIS.

If you were to pay for it, the cheapest option is a subscription of $2500 per year.

Retail.
Been doing it for over 10 years at a mom/pop business.
So I get things at wholesale and usually try to catch the best used gear that comes in.
People let go of some amazing gear in desperate times.
The downside is ( maybe it's just me ) but I'm generally burned out of playing/creating by the time the week is done.

$250 Medical software

I own an OEM copy of Windows 10 Professional. Beyond that, nothing more expensive than vidya

Well I own a copy of Office 2016 Pro Plus through my school, so I guess that.

Minecraft. 20 dollars

i got sublime for $1 because they were too stupid to fix their paypal exploit, but it is a legal copy so it counts.

aside from that, i bought windows style builder for fucking $37AUD

>>51516712
True. But the software is fairly shit too. It's kinda hilarious how much better the free MySQL is compared to $20k software.
>>
>>51516859
Have never tested sublime. But is it better than Notepad++?
>>
>>51516941
I feel it is a lot better, but atom is taking rise now, and that's looking to be better than sublime, bar the shitty web technology.

Full license for Autodesk's Inventor 2015, about 4600$
>>
Windows 95.
>>
>>51516949
Maybe this is just because I've been using ST3 for a while, but nothing about Atom puts it above ST3 in my opinion (except that Atom is open source/free/whatever).

In particular, Atom really suffers when you throw larger files at it, and it absolutely crumbles under increasingly large file sizes.

Are there any features or uses that Atom really shines at that ST3 doesn't? Is it just that Atom is under active development whereas ST3 seems all but dead?
>>
>>51515490
If you're doing commercial work you can get screwed over big time by using pirated stuff. Look up what Waves did.

Also, if you really like the stuff a company is releasing, purchasing it can help them improve on future releases, or help them release more. Not to mention a lot of sample libraries can't be torrented, or can but it'll take you weeks because there's only one seed.
>>
>>51517116
Atom is increasing in popularity incredibly quickly, meaning a more active community, meaning more plugins/themes/general contribution. I did mention how it uses a web stack, so it's shitty.

>and that's looking to be better than sublime, bar the shitty web technology

The problem you raised is definitely due to web technologies and node being shitty as a whole.

AutoCAD 2005 with Civil 3D even though it's old as fuck now. Got it from my company back when I was doing civil and land survey design and drafting. At the time, a single license was $4,000.

I just looked and a single perpetual license of Civ 3D is $6800. It's robbery.
>>
>>51515410
I shit you not, web checkout, a fucking webapp used for.equipment reservations by universities is 40,000 USD. Top that. You might not be able to find this ridiculous fucking number because they don't publish it. You have to sit through a seminar and training and say you are interested in buying. I know this because we fucking bought it.
>>
>>51517145
Right, so the performance issue doesn't look like it'll ever get resolved, and I'm not aware of any plugins in the Atom ecosystem that make it super compelling. Maybe I just haven't imagined this hypothetical library yet though.

Is there a really great plugin in Atom that has no counterpart in ST3? In particular, anything for Node, general JS, LaTeX, Python, or Markdown? I'm *pretty* satisfied with the plugins available in ST3, but I'm perfectly willing to admit that I might just not have imagined some plugin that Atom users are enjoying that totally blows my workflow away.

>>
Most expensive software that I "own"? Probably a copy of windows server 2008 r2. I got it through dreamspark though.

Otherwise, the most expensive piece of software that I paid for would probably be a video game. I used to play wow. That shit was expensive: base game + expansion 1 + expansion 2 + expansion 3 + monthly sub = A LOT.
>>
>>51517045
Then why even use proprietary software.
Also BSD and Apache licenses permit that.
>>
>>51515722

Server 2012 r2 for datacenters. ~4000 retail. Free through dreamspark. Using it right now as an email server and ad ds. Not for educational purposes and i dont give a hoot.

Either Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or AutoCAD. I get all of these for free from my uni. I'm not sure which actually costs the most to buy normally.

Blizzard Games with their expansions, except WoW franchise.

Then again, I don't legally own them but "renting" them.
>>
>>51517477
>>51517480
The worst part about that expansion nigger shit is that it makes it impossible to play after each expansion hits until you buy the new shit.

And to top off the shit sunday they have the balls to make all of your old gear worthless compared to common gear too. wtf
>>

pvp gear is worse, they make your gear worthless every 3 months now, just because "omg warlords season 3! season 4!"
