Hasn't been a meme in a while.

They don't release WHQL drivers consistently, but when they do, they're actually pretty good and stable, always come with nice boosts.

Their beta drivers are usually pretty great too, if you can deal with some instability. Better than Nvidia slapping a WHQL label on everything that crashes every 30 minutes, to be honest family.

Nvidia gets a 4 frame increase with every driver update. And they do updates monthly as opposed to amds yearly update.

Only happened in newly released games that use tessellation heavily. Their performance decreased because their hardware is outdated.

You got a 3-15% bump in FPS (only a few more frames per second)
So what?
Is the insanely variable frame times fixed?
Does Crossfire work for all games?
How about Crossfire scaling? Does it no longer stutter like Michael J Fox?
Does it make Freesync less of a piece of shit?
>>

>>
>>51513083
Except it didn't decrease compared to new cards, it simply decreased.

A 780ti was faster 2 years ago, it got better scores in 3dmark 2 years ago.

nvidia purposefully gimps last generation cards to force people to upgrade every generation.

This isn't a case of nvidia simply not providing any support for those older product, this is nVidia very deliberately lowering the the performance of last generation products via software updates.
>>

Except their performance decreased in terms of absolute values.

>>51513101

Actually, yes.

>Does Crossfire work for all games?
No, some games need specific profiles introduced by driver updates. Blame the game vendors.

>How about Crossfire scaling? Does it no longer stutter like Michael J Fox?
It's gotten better. It's also better than nvidia's.

>Does it make Freesync less of a piece of shit?
Yes, it did make it perfect and fixed the one complaint people had about it.

It's just as good as G-sync unless you think paying more money == more good.
>>

I think AMDrones should be mad at AMD for not providing these updates sooner and with more regularity before. It's absolutely not acceptable for a company to dump products with known issues and not fix them until enough of their customers jump ship to a better company.

Kek, play GTA V or even Battlefield 4 on a R9 300 card.
>Does SLI work with all games?
It works more consistently on most games without stuttering or scaling issues that plague most Crossfire profiles. See Far Cry 4 and Witcher 3.
>Far, far better than SLI scaling
See above. They might occasionally have higher maximum frames, but they also have the lowest minimum frames and horrendous frame times.
>It's just as good as G-sync unless you think paying more money == more good.
No, I think paying money for a product that just works is smarter than cheaping out on an inferior product that's infrequently supported by the manufacturer.
Radeon Crimson is a service all AMDrones should have had since 2013.

the AMD driver meme is still very much alive and kicking
>>
>>51512809
Wow so that would put something like Assassin's Creed II at around 400fps. Good work nvidia.
>>
>>51513407
>at least their driver updates didn't break GPUs.
Those were not even a 1% of all GPUs sold during that time. Don't act like it was common to see GPUs fry themselves because of a bad driver. That's like saying all white men are good because of a few okay examples.
>or gimp performance in a wide range of games.
Demonstrably false. 700-series cards now perform better than their release state. And surprise surprise, older cards with now obsolete GPUs are weaker than their newer counterparts.
AMD didn't gimp its 7970 GHz, it just got outmuscled by better cards.
>at least when AMD says 4gb of DDR5 ram
I completely agree with you. And yet the 970 is still better at 1080p than the 390 is. The 390 doesn't even use half of its VRAM at 4K anyway, even when Crossfired.
And yet you pay almost $100 more for it over a 290. $100 for extra VRAM, that seems like a rip-off.

>nvidya is run by some horrid assholes
At least those assholes got shit done, unlike AMD and their "good intentions".

Used to own 2 gtx 670s. Moved onto xfire 290s. Then a single r9 390 because one of the cards died and this was my RMA. At 1440p, fallout 4 uses between 5-6gb if vram on ultra. This is with godrays turned off, and tesselation turned off via CCC. Having the ability to contril tesselation when the game doesnt have the option to change it is an awesome thing.

I dont think nvidia is gimping older cards via drivers as my sli 670s were great. It is just I think they purposely over do it with tesselation in newer games. Kind of their veraion of a "nudge" to buy their newer stuff.

Honestly of the 980ti wasn't so much damned money I'd get one. But $300 for my r9 390 which is great compared to $600 for a few fps more in the same games I already play. Not worth it.

Everyone just needs to chill. Live and let live. For instance, while I love my 390, I miss the overclocking capabilities of my nvidia cards. Stock 915mhz core clock that could buzz up to 1250mhz core with only a tiny voltage bump. This was baseclocl too. Not boost.

Meanwhile my 390 can't do 1100mhz from the stock 1030mhz without a significant voltage bump.

To be fair AMD isn't that much better either.

Both companies have FPS increase but Nvidia seems to do it in less software updates compared to AMD, also Nvidia cards now run almost perfectly on release day with new games and there isn't any left extra performance to get out of those cards unlike AMD's which run bad on release and then get better which makes Nvidia look bad because AMD has those "20% increase performance" even though Nvidia had performance on day 0 and pretty much all boils down to marketing.
>>
>>51514294
They were great but they were starting to lack in newer titles because of the 2gb vram.

I had them sli with an overclocked fx-6300 cpu on a mid tier 750 watt corsair.

They only use like 170 watts each stock.

This is what most recent cards look like, there aren't many drivers to test across with new cards because you can't install old drivers with those cards as they are not supported.

Nvidia seems to have nailed down the optimization with games on release day with Game Ready drivers which also explains why Nvidia has so many driver side branches to experiment and one main branch to merge all the good changes things that come out of the side branches

They release drivers with new games because they pay those companies for priority access and so they can slap gameworks shit in them no one wants.

Crossfire has had better scaling than SLI for some time now, probably because they did away with the bridge

Drive regression is something both companies suffer from but is more prevalent with AMD which could be caused by the high cpu overhead amd suffers from, which is something omega somehow alleviated but still not at Nvidia levels, so in the end AMD is the one "gimping cards" thanks to this problem and Nvidia's regressions is mostly because the plugins Nvidia uses to run the DirectX features on their hardware are custom plugins made to fit their architecture more effectively which obviously has side effect only work on the architecture they are designed with which helps with cpu overhead, and the fact that Nvidia has too many teams working on so many drivers branches at the same time, sometimes there is stuff that was broken on one the side branches, then the fix was introduced into the main branch but never into the side branches and later one of those side branches was designated as the new main branch and was lacking the fix from the old main branch

>>51514574

>nvidiots in charge of knowing what they are talking about
nobody is saying they literally release drivers that performs worse than the old ones. They mean nvidia's new cards get optimizations the old cards do not while AMD doesn't do this, so the comparative performance between AMD and nvidia cards increases in favor of AMD over time. 7950>680 now while when both were on the market 680 costed 2x as much as the 7950.

You might be able to run a 390 on your PSU, it's gonna be right on the edge though. I'm running an overclocked 290 and an overclocked 4690K and my setup draws about 500W under full CPU + GPU load from the wall.
