No bunto is anywhere near lightweight.

to be honest the all get about the same size once you install GTK and Qt/KDE frameworks.

Gentoo or Arch with no de.

I would assume a well compiled Gentoo would be the fasts Linux your machine could achieve. However, I doubt it'll actually result in much perceived speed improvement.
As for GUI, if you want ultra slim and fast you'll probably want to avoid a full fledged Desktop Environment altogether.
>>
Tiny core.
Can run on 64mb ram iirc, with a gui.

I have it installed on my old 430mhz celeron laptop with 256mb ram and it runs great.
>>
>>51498248
Not true. My full setup with cinnamon has 585 installed packages. Buntu and its forks have near 3000.

This. It's solid, XFCE looks good after customizing, and fast.

The smallest you are going to get with a usable desktop is probably Tiny Core. It's 15 megs with the GUI, and 10 without it.

Crunchbang is pretty light. Other than that there Puppy Linux, or you can go the LFS route and pretty much make it as small as you want it to be.

Gentoo or arch if you want something usable, if not, Damn Small Linux.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Smallest distros are so small it's ridiculous. Where would you possibly need them? What are you planning on?
>>
Linux is a kernel. There is no GUI. I'd say that purely a kernel, with no other software, is pretty fast/slim.
>>
install slackware 2.0 and install only A, N and X disk sets. It should run fine on any 386/486 pc and it will be the smallest working linux distro with a GUI.

This.

64 megabytes of RAM is wayy too fucking much.

>>51498178
Puppy slacko. I could never get the browser to work though and I wasn't convinced that it was maintained. I remember getting the text browser to work.

It's not linux but there's a couple of floppy OS's like Menuet.

>>51498249
Can't get much more bloated than Unity.

it's clearly staged
i'm pretty sure this could be considered assault if it was just some autist cutting some classmate's hair.
>>
>>51500850
>good hygiene
The average young woman showers about half as often as the average young man.
>>
>>51500877
Women also sweat much less than men do.
Body hair is a vector for trapping odors and most women have none.

it's all a staged meme

>i'm pretty sure this could be considered assault if it was just some autist cutting some classmate's hair.
So is rape, but most women enjoy that. That guy probably got his brains fucked out immediately after class.

Lubuntu ot Puppy. Though I'll note I don't have much experience outside of the Ubuntu based distros.

Just installed Lubuntu on my Thinkpad T30, and to me actually feels usable without having to be patient because it's an old machine trying to keep up. It'll actually play HD 720 videos, whereas others might struggle to even play 480, Some options I usually expect to be in a control panel setting I had to do via the command line, but otherwise like it so far. If this Thinkpad didn't have a 802.11b card, I'd actually consider carrying it around.
