OP here, just tried both of them and decided honeyview is better for my needs.
I basically just needed a windows default replacement that can open .gifs and zoom in images using mousewheel.Nothing more. in irfan I can't change that and do not like clicking Ctrl to do it.
Anything else recommended beside these 2?

what i like about it is that it uses the already very good Qt image libraries rather than trying to reinvent it with its own buggy library. it is super fast and there is a native 64bit version also (noticed you were on the 32bit one). the only real downside is it isn't super compact as it comes with a bunch of Qt dlls. not the end of the world though and you can still grab the portable zip rather than the installer

yea that one was the portable 32bit version, I just installed since I like it, but kept 32bit. Don't see a reason to use the 64bit, does it run better?

This fucking image is fucking retarded. Honeyview uses that much RAM because it Caches images you goddamn dipshit. Sometimes my honeyview uses 3 to 4 GB because it Caches the whole folder.

neither, I use jpegview (mostly because I was sick of irfanview's shitty gif support -- jpegview isn't perfect either, but I've had far fewer issues in that regard)

well, unless I need to open a PCX file, I never did uninstall irfanview
