I'm curious to see what does /g/ use and why?
>>
Honestly most of the time I just use Google Docs at work. I don't need an office suite at home.
>>
Microsoft office.
Used libre for years.

Got tired of incompatibilities.
>>
>>51402311
Microsoft Office Online
It's free.
Compatible.
It works.
Cloud storage.
>>
libreoffice

i dont see the point using msoffice
>>
>>51402352
>incompatibilities
Care to elaborate? Not trolling just curious. I've been using LibreOffice and haven't encountered any issues yet.
>>
>>51402311
Nine. Vim for taking notes, Latex if it's supposed to look pretty.

If it doesn't contain a lot of math and it's less than 10 pages or so, Word
otherwise LaTeX
>>
Depends.
For short stuff (letters, notes) I use LibreOffice. For long documents I use LaTeX.
>>
>>51402322
Me too. Auto-saving to the cloud is just too convient for me now. Had no problems with submitting essays made in google docs in college so far.

MS Office 2007. Any of the programs load in under half a second on my modern laptop with an SSD. Does almost everything the newer ones do, without silly fullscreen open/save.

I've used the online version. I had to try it in different browsers to see if I was missing something, but it really is just a laggy and crippled imitation of the real MS Office. Current Office Online can't even come near an 8 year old desktop version on functionality and responsiveness. But the cursor FUCKING FADES IN AND OUT and the selection around the current cell in Excel ANIMATES when you move it! So it must be better!

could I install newer version of MS Office w/ a older windows product key? I'm using windows 7 but I want to install MS Office 2010, is that possible?
>>

That font is triggering me.
>>
>>51402551
I use wps too. But complicated formatting is still not compatible with m£.
>>
Libreoffice because MS Office refused to install on my laptop no matter what I did.

LibreOffice Portable now, its Writer is good enough for what I need to do and I don't really use the other stuff (like Calc/Draw etc), before I used OpenOffice for years but then is started to suck.
>>
>>51402322
>>51402534
Just be aware that if you download as PDF from google docs it doesn't save it as PDF/A
>>
Tried Libre, it was shit compares to MS Office, especially since I get Ms for free through school.
If there's one thing Ms does well it's office if you ignore the cloud storage. Even onenote is somehow useful, and user friendly enough to teach to old ass math professors.
>>
I use Office 2010. When I studied in the Netherlands in 2011, you could get it for 47€ or so through some online shop for students, which was decent investment. Have it installed on three machines right now. Before that I used OpenOffice for uni, but I got tired of people using .docx documents which ended up looking horrible on my laptop and differing word-counts which caused me to get a grade deducted once. That's what made me do the switch. Still like Microsoft Office and it's what my new uni uses, too.

Tried using LibreOffice on my Ubuntu Laptop recently and these ridiculous looking comic icons everywhere and no ribbons make me use MSOffice in Wine instead.
>>
>>51402613
Office doesn't come with Windows btw
>>
>>51403044
And I use LaTeX for longer papers, but I am still learning so I use Word when I have to be quick.
>>
>>51403048
I mean... You know what I mean
>>
>>51403039
how? they serve the same purposes and have the fucking same functions

>b-but muh ribbon interface

i bet you never used office pre 2007
>>
>>51402311
Mainly just Google.
I used to use iWork '09 until the ol' MbP finally kicked the bucket.
My reason why is because I'm insane and don't like having a million free choices.
>>
>>51402551
Why are you using a serif font as system font?
>>
Currently Libre.

I had used Claris/AppleWorks for so long, and MacWrite before that I could never quite get into iWork's workflow. I use Libre as I don't compose anything truly complex that trips up Word format conversion, plus I can shuttle files between my Mac and Linux machines.

Only specialized formatting I use is for screenplays, but use Celtx for that.

Its beyond me how anyone can like this horrid overengineered mess, that does nothing but wasting tons of vertical space with its hueg icons and just bloats the whole interface with tons of useless shit.

Pic related, its ribbons.

>>

Pretty much this, except that I don't use LaTeX only for things that need a «beautiful-convention-made-by-myself-and-'cause-I'm-your-teacher-you'll-have-to-use-it-dud» (aka useless and fucking ugly). Otherwise I do everything with it, 'cause it's easier and I like uniformity.
>>
>>
>>51402311
>does /g/ use and why?
>LibreOffice
because Linux, and sometimes you just need to get something done quick and dirty. Also, this world speaks .doc and .xls
Much easier to turn data into plots.
>MS Office
because its on my work machine and its a fair bit more polished than Libreoffice
Excel can load much bigger files than LO calc.
Word has a much better spelling and grammar checker
Powerpoint just does what it is supposed to
>Gimp & Inkscape
Because fuck trying to illustrate something with the fucking drawing programmes included in office suites, or even missusing powerpoint for it
>Latex
because its the only way to write large documents without either going crazy or producing ugly shit
>Python/Pandas/Numpy
Because for real work with data, Excel just doesnt cut it.

I use a pirated Microsoft Office 2013. Used to use LibreOffice as my main, but I was getting sick of running into compatibility issues. Still have it installed for some reason though.

>Papers
LaTeX unless it's very simple or I'm collaborating with other people using something else. If it's simple, I'll usually use Word just because doing basic things like changing spacing within, and only within, a certain section, is quicker, and I've never had anyone ever want a document in odt. Writer is much better than Word for math, but at that point I might as well just use LaTeX.
>Spreadsheets
Excel just because of little things that work better than in Calc.
>Presentations
Powerpoint, no exceptions. I dropped Present upon seeing that the solution for making borderred text was to draw the lines manually.
>Email
Thunderbird for personal, Outlook for work.
>Other things
Haven't had to use them.
>>
>>51402311
Libre office is awesome for pretty much anything, except for handling images and quickly cropping and forms.

Dont focus all attention on Write. Draw actually is pretty good, I use it for making quick advertisements such as "this product 50% off". When I need more editing skills, I use Photoshop on wine or GIMP for simple cropping.

Also Base is awesome for filling up mysql databases (dont use the native database because it's shit, tho).
>>
>>51416666
I use Microsoft Office 2016. I was just giving you a hard time because I am disabled.
