MSI is creating laptops that have 2 full gtx 980s in sli, a desktop processor, 32gb of ram, and a cherry mx brown keyboard, why haven't you made the switch to full time laptop user.

Retarded, computers have thermal control. Automatically shutdown at high temperatures.
>>
why can't I have this large, desktop-keyboarded, big-screened laptop, but with ordinary laptop components in it? 2.something GHz mobile i5/7, one SSD and one HDD, no dedicated GPU. Then fill the resulting space with more battery. Boom, all-day battery life without having to have a CPU throttled to 800MHz.

An automatic shutdown sounds pretty fukd to me, no matter what I'm doing.

Tempting, but I'll pass. I respect that it's looking to have a not-shit keyboard though, that's very rare in a modern laptop.

You have never, nor will ever have achieved anything of lasting importance in your life

It's a pretty tiny niche. Better off getting a normal latop and a giant powerbank / swappable batteries.

Some people have to travel a lot and want the best, this looks like it's targeted at them.

Although any laptop with a quad core I5+ and at least a gt 840m will do fine at 1080p.

My hd 6630m gives me 35-45 fps with a dual core i7 2620m in battlefield 4, 1440x 900.
>>
>>51400766
>Some people have to travel a lot and want the best, this looks like it's targeted at them.
This is not the best option for someone that travels lots. it's almost the exact opposite of that. Unless the person is a professional gamer or something
>>
>>51400301
not a gaymer
>>
>>51400845
Travel alot and want decent gaming performance. Might be hard to comprehend, but It's alot easier to carry a gaming laptop than a full blown tower.
>>
>>51400685
>STOP LIKING THINGS I DONT LIKE
>>
>>51400301
>why haven't you made the switch to full time laptop user.
Because I'd pay extra to not have desktop hardware (even powerful laptop hardware) in my laptop.
>>
>>51401137
Would would a kid need to travel a lot though unless they were a professional gamer?
>>
>>51401146
Wat. I'm just saying that combination will never be produced, so here is an alternative.
>>
>>51400301
It's not very portable, which is the point of a laptop. If I needed those specs, I'd build a desktop. Then I'd have more money left over, and in some years when its hardware is old and outdated, I'd be able to upgrade for a lot less than you'll spend throwing it out and buying a new one.

So much cheaper and more practical to get 2 systems: A desktop for recent games, and a more modest laptop that'll be lighter and get better battery life than that. Occasional game on the go? Just turn settings to low and accept that it won't look as nice as your desktop.

I could see that laptop being great if you spend like all your time at LAN parties though.
>>
>>51401160
College student? Maybe they have to move around every semester from co-op to school and really enjoy pc gaming? Maybe they like going to lan parties? Not everyone has the same situation, you know.

>>51400301

>>
Looks ugly as fuck though. A gtx 980m laptop would be powerful enough, and look like an actual laptop.
>>
>>51401160
Some people have to move around a lot for work. They have the money to waste and don't want to carry a tower and accessories all over the world every few weeks or months.
>>
>>51400766
>Some people have to travel a lot and want the best, this looks like it's targeted at them.
>I want to travel but I also want to lug around a laptop that's absurdly big and almost anti-travel
>>
Let's call them what they really are, though - desktop replacements. They are simply way too heavy and tank-like to carry around in any kind of regular basis, they're just easier to pack up when you need to move from one stationary location to another. That being said though, if I had stupid amounts of money I would have loved to have something like this back in college. I still took most notes in hand-writing because it was my preferred method, so my laptop basically just stayed at my dorm/apartment the whole time. The only reason why I even had a laptop was because I needed to bring it home with me when Ieft campus for winter/summer break and for crashing at someone else's place/LAN's.
>>
>>51401357
>don't want to carry a tower
This basically is one.
>>
>>51400301
>32gb ram
For what fucking purpose? Running 2 instances of gta 5 with 2000 tabs opened in chrome on the background.
>>
>>51401393
It's a mobile workstation. The 32GB RAM is for RAM intensive computing
>>
>>51401357

I can tell you've never seen a gaming laptop in your life.

How is this not portable?
And that's not the first time you've mentioned the sims, you don't know laptops and you don't know games.
Shut up before you embarrass yourself even further.
>>
>>51401496
>I can tell you've never seen a gaming laptop in your life.
I'm talking about the laptop OP is talking about, I've seen 13.3" and 14" Alienwares before, they're nothing special.
>>
>>51401553
This is not portable due to the size, weight, and battery life. Not complex to analysis. I solely use laptops as my personal computers. I know games and i know Sims is the most popular one

A hell of a lot more portable than a tower monitor, keyboard/mouse, webcam, power cables And other accessories. Headset or speakers. Mousepad.
You get the point.
>>
>>51401759
yeah but the point of laptops is that they are portable computers, not that they make your Desktop computer easily transportable to a new table. Sure it's a niche. I only see it relevant to gamers though, mostly professional ones that get the devices for free and then the retardes that buy one thinking it will make them fatality.

Does this thing even have a trackpad? It's not even an attempt at being a portable computer. Just a transportable Desktop
>>
I have the 980m model, it is solid
the build quality, performance, easy to upgrade with all available slots.

Last time I tested the battery lasted around 3 hours with medium work.

The heat is meme.

The complains though :
- The touch numpad, you have to look to use it ( you can't sense the buttons.)
- MSI support is shit, for anything, "RMA please"
- the battery is non removable, so to reset the CMOS or discharge the motherboard, either you shall have ninja skillz or send RMA.
-No linux support, I managed to run the webcam, but not the wireless, even though I compiled the latest kernel.

That picture angle is misleading. That thing looks like it's thick as fuck.

This isn't a laptop, it's a modern luggable.

My desktop is quieter, runs cooler and costs less. My laptop is very portable and the battery lasts ~10 hours.
Combined price is less than that laptop, and both of my machine are great for their purpose. That laptop could work for all of my computing but it'd be far less pleasant.

I never said either of them were the pinnacle of gaming 10/10 GOTY. They're just good games.
>>
>>51402398

then why would I waste money on a new fancy GPU if in the end I really don't get much enjoyment out of it when old games do the trick much better

like you see people with Titan Sli or with laptops like in the OP, great, why would you even need that

>Two full sli 980s.
Literally where. I don't see any cooling unit anywhere remotely close to what any 980 has on the market. as far as I can tell there are two 980 chips on there that are going to require you to purchase le cooling pad and keep them both on the charger constantly literally no matter where you go. It essentially ruins the point of having a laptop. Have fun with your 1,000 shipped units.
>>
>>51401357
A better alternative would be a lunchbox pc and netbook then. Something like the Fang BattleBox or Lian Li TU100/200 and a reasonable laptop of your choice. Are you doing serious compiling or rendering on a bus, train, or plane?

Because they're $3000, weigh 20 pounds, has 30 minutes of battery life, and overheat in 10 minutes of normal non-gaming use much less any kind of gaming.

Why would I limit myself to a single, shitty screen and a SFF laptop keyboard just to have a laptop I never want to actually carry because it weighs more than an mITX desktop build?
