I just looked at it now. It's barely any different from what I use it for. For sharing screenshots/images/links etc. it's still the same as before.
Free:
Send Links: Hasn't changed
Send Files: 25mb (I can see this bothering some people but it doesn't affect me fortunately)
Storage Space: 2GB (I use it mainly for screenshots and the occasional link, again may bother other people but not me)
Follow Channels: Hasn't changed
Optional End-to-End Encryption: Hasn't changed
API Access: Hasn't changed
SMS: 100/month (this feature was buggy for me anyways but it's still a shame, but still somewhat useful, I guess)
Mirrored Notification Action Support: Looks like I can reply to emails from notification popups versus just clicking the popup and having a new tab open to the email? Not much of a huge loss. It could be useful for other apps though.
Universal Copy and Paste: This would be nice to have.
Priority Support: Priority, not exclusive.
TL;DR You're not missing out on much as a free user.

The fuck is pushbullet?

It is malware that is being shilled on /g/.
Fuck this if they're gonna be continuing this trend. Threatening the alternative as selling people's data is not cool.
But, is there any real alternative, ideally something you can run a server for yourself?
I integrated pushbullet into so many of my programs and scripting jobs because it's so easy to just send a phone notification with a simple html request via curl. Anyone using some sort of similar setup?
they started going downhill as soon as they started adding social media features to it
sending shit to people is fine but don't try to make it some fucking messenger
This is a beautiful service, they deserve the money. Even though you don't need the pro version for it to be useful. Stop complaining.
