Any other network heads out there? Why do people still think STP is the devil? The latest revision has been a total bro! Also, do you think colleges should be legally inclined to give their IPv4 addresses back to ARIN?
>>
Cool thread man, I'm interested in the subject but don't know a ton about it besides what I need to do to set up for a LAN party or basic TCP/IP. Dunno if /g/ - Consumer General will be very interested though. What do you do for a job?

How to learn without having to do a retarded certificate course?
I've been meaning to get into networking but it seems to be just too much to take in.
>>
I was a networking major in college, but I work in systems. I'm surprised that I can decipher that chart without any trouble.

What's the problem with STP, though? It just werks... usually.

>I can decipher that chart without any trouble.

what do the double-arrow-ended circles on R12 and R13 labelled "OSPF <> BGP" mean?
>>
>>50818607
If I remember correctly, it's dealing with route distribution between OSPF and BGP protocols. Those routers are in a sense translating between external routes and internal routes.

I wish I still had my old Cisco books on hand. I really want to get back into this stuff.

Hp network simulator
>>
>>50820455
ill give it a try. but is there anything that does not require a virtual machine?
something that can simulate a network and network devices on its own?
does not to be a real accurate simulation.

Packettracer
>>
>>50818099

STP is very useful tool in some topologies, what so devil about it? root cost counts may be of trouble to some people but it ain't that bad.
>>
>>50820831
Packet tracer is shit for simulating anything but the simplest topologies. It's barely adequate to learn CCNA.

Double down on learning GNS3 or buy a CCNP/CCIE lab kit to practice on.
