>Chrome store takes down uBlock
>gorhill forced to use a different icon
>also changes the name to uBlock Origin
>claims he will continue to keep the Firefox version up-to-date
>has been releasing a lot of builds, mainly to fix the transition he has to make because of his meltdown on April Fool's
>meanwhile, Chris "The Jew" Aljoudi can't even release a new stable version of the "original" fork
Will gorhill ever find happiness?
Will uBlock ever stop being bifurcated into 2 projects?
Find out in the next episode of "As the uBlock turns"
He "quit" and handed the projected over to the guy who maintained the safari release (if I remember correctly). Then a few days later he came back and is now getting fucked because he doesn't "own" any of the official project stuff anymore, so he's having to change the name/icon and his version got pulled from the Chrome plugin store.
He didn't try to quit he wanted to close the issue tracker because of all the stupid people but he didn't want the issues to be thrown out so he gave the entire repo to someone else and forked it instead. He's fixing issues on the original repo too now so not much has changed except that gorhill isn't responsible for how shit the original project gets.
Yes, that's what actually happened, but he framed it in a way the made it clearly look like he was quitting, then only made it clear that he was forking it because he was tired of the issues later.
Well Gorhill needs to update the intro page on github because the link in this section (for ublock origin on github).
>Install from Firefox Add-ons homepage, or you can install by downloading the latest uBlock.firefox.xpi file, and by dragging the downloaded xpi file to your add-on page.
Takes you to
Because it's technically licensed under an open source license, he just transferred ownership of the official repo. As far as I know gorhill still maintains the copyright on any code he committed to the repo, but since he committed it under an open source license, and he transferred ownership of the repo to Chris, there's not much he can do besides just start over with a new "brand", with the same codebase.
pls remove is offense
I can't into 3d with photoshop
What is that abortion of a logo? If I can do a better job in 5 minutes then the creator needs to get his head out of the sand.
What the fuck? Since when did the AMO version get updated to 0.9.1.0?
It's was stuck on 0.8.x.x since forever. Is it habeding?
Also why is it still named µBlock and not uBlock?
>why is it still named µBlock and not uBlock?
because AMO a shit, it takes a couple of month to push every release while the addon is being updated daily, just use the xpi from github whenever a major release is pushed.
ABE was identical to ABP except it took out the code for the acceptable ads stuff. ABP with the acceptable ads tickbox unchecked functioned identically to ABE. The makers of ABE didn't do any work, it's why they have no problem admitting that an alternative piece of software is completely superior.
You could but it probably wont be the same. Noscript allows you to selectively disable scripts on particular sites. ublock doesn't distinguish scripts from other content you can only unblock everything or nothing. So for example if you unblock a particular site for an image or video or something you also unblock the scripts they use on that site.
We need to get Alex to push commits to gorhil's repo and some how work a miracle and change the extension ID on AMO.
This will leave Chris with the main repo in Safari planet.
A nigga can dream.
Except that gorhill is a Chrome developer. The Firefox guy is (I think) still a contributor of the original fork.
That said, I'm taking ublock origin for a spin on FF and it seems to work like a charm.
I'm a tryhard, deal with it.
Smaller circles this time.
I had respect for him since that time he closed the pathetic request to disable tracking block by default like a boss, he was a based guy... not anymore, he fucked up everything, serves him right for even supporting Chrome in the first place.
too complicated to work as an icon
Biggest problem is that it needs to look good at a small size. The old logo passed, the new doesn't.
Should I create an issue in gorhill's repo telling him to add this filter list: http://gnuzilla.gnu.org/filters/blacklist.txt (from GNU IceCat's SpyBlock -Adblock-Plus-based extension native to that browser-) or would I trigger his autism since it isn't an actual issue?
I use every list except the ones that are explicitly included in other lists (that is, Easy List without element hiding rules, Fanboy's Social Blocking List -included in Fanboy's annoyance List- and Fanboy+Easylist-Merged Ultimate List) and except the ones that don't match my language/region, and I also use some other custom lists and custom filters, and yet, from this IceCat list, uBlock says it uses 10275 filters out of 18347.
Gorhill takes suggestions just fine, he's not as unreasonable as /g/ is trying to make him seem. He got pretty upset with all the idiots making issues to complain about problems with easylist and fanboy's list and he got tired of trying to fix them so he left
The Facebook and YouTube custom lists are there just because they exist. I don't visit those sites.
Why the fuck can't Firefox take full page screenshots of chrome:// URIs? Jesus Christ.
Also, inb4 >spic
Fuck off in advance.
THE FUCKING LOGO
you cant be serious
good thing /g/'s innovative products always start with a good logo
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as GNUBlock, is in fact, GNU/uBlock, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus uBlock. uBlock is not an adblocker unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU blockers, ads and vital system components comprising a full adblocker as defined by POSIX.
Hey thanks a lot guys, appreciate it. Does the youtube annoyances list make it so youtube works ok while stuff is still blocked?
Spain guy: Why do you not have social blocking list enabled?
The shield is fine, but that logo is attrocious. Somebody needs to send him the shield one a /g/entleman made in the other thread. The one with the O going through the U with shadow effects
>not writing your own hosts file
>he enables Javacsript globally
Only thing this lacks to be perfect is not disabling automatic cosmetic filtering when advanced user mode is activated. Just because I want to manually block/allow every domain doesn't mean I want to manually hide every goddamn leftover element
Yes, I have that checked.
I don't see those blank spaces because I use 4chanx and a custom user style, but I've disabled both and those blank spaces appear always, regardless of whether "I am an advanced user" is or isn't checked in uBlock.
my filters:boards.4chan.org##body > .center:nth-of-type(3)
boards.4chan.org##body > .center:nth-of-type(4)
boards.4chan.org##body > .center:nth-of-type(7)
boards.4chan.org##body > .center:nth-of-type(8)
boards.4chan.org##body > .center:nth-of-type(10)
boards.4chan.org###content > .center:nth-of-type(7)
boards.4chan.org###delform > .center:nth-of-type(3)
Yup. But here if I disable advanced user mode and refresh, the blank elements are automatically hidden. In fact toggling the little eye icon unhides/hides them.
