Which is better? Which has more power? More features? Ease of use? Aesthetics? Autism?
>>
PowerVR now that the driver's source code and documentation has leaked.

I buy my graphics cards based on their looks, not based on their performance.
I am the #newgengamer
>>

You mean aesthetics fag?
>>
>>47341878
Too bad that their architecture is so complex that not even their own software team can write proper divers for it.
>>
>>47341854

Nvidia is more power efficient but not by a significant enough margin to matter at its efficiency goes out the window if you overclock it which everyone does

AMD cards have more memory, more badnwidth and more processors so they handle higher resolutions and heavier gaming load MUCH better than nvidia this means a higher minimum FPS in almost every application a GTX 970 needs a brutal overclock just to match the MIN-FPS performance of a 290 running at stock speed even in 1080p

Nvidia has phsyX but that is gimmicky bullshit and you can enable PhysX on AMD gpu's and they dont take much of a performance penalty anymore Im currently running PhysX on borderlands2 on my AMD GPU and i only lose 4fps when its running and im still above 60fps in the game

AMD is the hands down winner in sound quality and game immersion due to their TruPositional Audio technology which gives a more accurate spacial representation of sounds in games this is an absolute must have if you like Horror/Suspense games

Nvidia still uses the old method of sound position

Both are easy to use just plug the card in and instal drivers from the website and your good to go or in the case of AMD just instal catalyst off of the CD in the box and catalyst will auto download and install the drivers for you it even detects old drivers and unistalls them so your card doesnt get fucked up by conflicting driver sets

AMd also comes with Raptr which detects and auto optimizes all your games for you it detects your GPU and its current clock speed and then it detects your monitor settings and auto corrects all the graphics option of the game to ensure the smoothest and best qwuality game settings for your hardware i was skeptical about this at first but it detects 80% of all the games i install and its optimizations are mostly spot on and when they arent i can manual change them myself its a real time saver

pick AMD.....seriously pick AMD

I would say due to nvidia putting their shillworks shit into every game they have more features
but AMD cards just dominate performance wise
>>
>>47341878
>leaked
Leaked means it was taken without the company's permission and if anyone uses it they're opening themselves up for a huge ass lawsuit.

That's actually a negative for open source development not a positive. Open source devs don't like having to look over their shoulder for every commit making sure that no one is about to sue them for using their IP.

Also Nvidia is one of the most valuable stocks currently due to recent mobile technologies and planning of future ones. Your move AMD fags.
>>
Regarding graphics accelerators for PCs, ATI mostly cooperates with the free software movement, while nVidia is totally hostile. ATI has released free drivers.
However, the ATI drivers use nonfree microcode blobs, whereas most of nVidia's products (excepting the most recent ones) work ok with Nouveau, which is entirely free and has no blobs.

Thus, paradoxically, if you want to be free you need to get a not-very-recent nVidia accelerator.

I wish ATI would free this microcode, or put it in ROM, so that we could endorse its products and stop preferring the products of a company that is no friend of ours.

Subjective. Are you on Linux? Do you care about power efficiency? Do you really want G-Sync over FreeSync for some odd reason? etc.

>Which has more power?
AMD.

>More features?
Nvidia. Too bad everything they have that AMD doesn't is just gimmicky bullshit that doesn't matter and will never be utilized by 99% of users.

>Ease of use?
Nvidia, it just werks.

>Aesthetics?
Stock coolers? Nvidia, with the exception of AMD's 295x2 because it looks incredible. But again, this is subjective. Aftermarket coolers don't matter for the most part because they're generally the same anyways.

>Autism?
Fanboys from either side, especially the ones who false flag as fanboys from whichever "team" they aren't on.

Overall I prefer AMD for its raw performance as well as significantly cheaper prices. The drivers are still pretty dodgy though, ignore the drones who will tell you otherwise. Most problems seems to be with scaling/overscanning/underscanning, but thankfully it's easy enough to fix. Still, I shouldn't be needing to fix stupid shit like that at all; and I don't with an Nvidia card.

Geforce Experience is full shit, it set my BF4 settings to 200 % once and I wondered why I could barely hit 20 FPS on Ultra. 200% on 2K is a lot...

In terms of price/performance AMD remains superior. Maxwell Nvidia is better for OC but really expensive as it does not deliver a lot more performance. Also 3.5 is a thing that should guide you to the 290X, if you don't want a 980 or just think its too expensive.

As my second 980 broke within two months Im really considering a 390X. A 600 € graphics card doesnt break so fast and have driver issues. My lowend Fermi card never had a single issue in the past days when I was forced to use it. There are only two options for me:

>390X
>980Ti (With aftermarket cooler to laugh at TitanX users)
>>
>>47343442
Think you'd need a few more than that. But this place is full of autists.
>>
>>47343476
Do you expect the 300 series to lower the prices of the 200 series? That's mostly why I'm waiting to buy a 290x (or maybe still 970 idk)
>>
>>47343442
obviously people don't because nvidia sells more while offering less
>>
>>47343476

your nvidia card has little longevity since there a major scandle involving nvidia not updating drivers for keplar cards anymore

the 780ti is literally last gen and the flagship card and people payed 600-700$ for it and now its losing in all the modern benchmarks to the 290X because it has no new drivers

from that you can extrapolate that this generation of Maxwell cards will face a similar fate when pascal is released

AMD might be slow on updates but their updates are 99% stable when they come out and they continue to update cards from several generations back

for that reason alone buy AMD

AMD: good for price, good graphics, bad drivers, heating issue
Nvidia: good graphics, okay for price, very expensive, good heat management, good drivers.

It depends on how much you're willing to spend. They're basically the same but AMD has a larger gap between driver updates and they sometimes have issues. If you don't care to shove your cock on your pc to monitor the temperature 24/7 then the heat is very arbitrary of you to care about.
>>

They both bounce around between being on the top for high end performance, AMD's price bracketing is much more granular though. NVidia's features and drivers are usually more mature (in the software sense not the social sense), stable, and generally higher quality, but that doesn't mean AMD's are bad. Aesthetics usually depend on manufacturer though and buying a reference card for anything other than benchmarking is fucking stupid.

They're both fine.
>>
>>47341854
Features, Driver support, Usually performance crowns= Nvidia

Price for performance, sometimes performance crowns, multi monitors = AMD

Nostalgia= ATI/3DFX Voodoos

The power thing currently is better on Nvidia and you know it changes every few years because if you remember Fermi holy fuck power and heat like people QQ about with the red team now.

I dunno I prefer Nvidia because they have more features that either are implemented more for what Im using or work better or both. They have also just more support driver wise for their products... simply put more new or old games that encounter problems have issues with AMD gpus vs Nvidia ones, not to say one side is 100% perfect.

Simply put if you want the best: Go with Intel/Nvidia in your system.

If you want the best for your money go with AMD.
>>
>>47343503
The 380X will be possibly a rebranded 290X. So if I go AMD then 390. Nvidia is at least a newer architecture... 2XX prices will drop a bit, similar as Kepler prices dropped, you can get a 780Ti for 400 € now (cheaper than 980).

Go 290 and forget the 970, especially when you want to use VR devices in the future the frametimes will matter. OC the 290 and you have a 380X.
>>
>>47343551
You can still play battlefield 4 on an 8800 gtx, do you think you could do similar things on the same era ATI card? I popped an old gtx 295 which is sli plus old so in theory it should suck? No out of like 30 games only DayZ standalone or Minecraft dont support the 2 gpus, and it handles most games at decent settings still.

To give you a comparison I couldnt even play new releases on AMD's flagship 7970 with a few games before I waited for a driver fix.

AMD cards don't even have heating issues. Their coolers work.
The stock ones are loud, but they never get hot like fermi cards did. Non-stock cooling isn't loud either so there's not many reasons not to get the card with better price/performance.

They do use more power- but if saving $15 a year on your power bill is worth spending $100 more on a graphics card... all the more to you I guess.

Are you sure, this 5XX card uses the same driver as the 980. They released a lot of updates in the recent time, more than I need...

Sure, the new Maxwell cards stay pretty cool, they constantly run boost frequencies. AMDs current architecture is similar to Kepler, hotter but OK, its time for a new one.

At stock speed remember

The 3xx amd series are coming out soon so either way if you buy nvidia or amd wait till then I say sir.

You won't find consensus in a place where fanboys exist. AMD fanboys will shill their products, nvidia fanboy will shill theirs, and the moderates who actually read benchmarks will get drowned out.
Go to a place like techreport or some other reputable tech review site (the reputable ones do frame time measurements, ignore sites that don't), check out the benchmarks, and get a card that looks like it's best for you.

Oh and don't come to /g/ shilling a brand.

Are you an utter retard by any chance? Of course there is, don't fucking buy a 970.

There will NEVER be consensus about this topic. Nvidia is fine but expensive, AMDs cards dont perform less (Maybe 5%, but who the fuck cares about stock clocks). I would like to see the 980ti, since the Titan is too expensive for a 30 % performance upgrade and VRAM meltdown. I have the 980 btw., bought it directly after 3.5, instead of a 970.

>I know but I don't care!

welp, retard confirmed
>>
>tfw the GTX 750 Ti is just slightly less powerful than the PS4

And there's not even going to be a 950 Ti so I would basically have to wait years until there's another sub 75W card that outdoes both consoles.

Wtf are you bringing up consoles you /v/tard

All the AMDs I ever owned overheated and didn't perform as smoothly

All the Nvidias I ever owned burned my house down and were bricked by the latest updates

AMD generally has more performance per dollar.

Nvidia has really neat driver features that AMD doesn't (Driver-injected HBAO+, a million anti-aliasing options, etc)

I go with Nvidia because I prefer the extra features.

Nvidia has Geforce Experience which is the same thing.

AMD helps support the open source community

fuck PowerVR. only ARM GPU that manufacturer provides open 3d driver is Vivante

What were you expecting, you idiot? You raised its clock by 270MHz. If you do that to any 5+ year old card it will explode.
>>
I will never spend another cent on AMD products. This is a calculated decision after authorizing over three million dollars on them over eleven years. I simply don't have the time to expend on their inadequacy any longer.

I'm not really a graphics buff, but I'm pretty sure when I have the money to build my own computer, I'll be getting dual AMD Matrox's. They each have 6 mini-DP ports, an I would like a 12 monitor setup.
Only 2GB graphics RAM, but eh....

For the same number of monitors off of NVidia, I'd need triple-SLI'ed cards. Otherwise, I was gonna get 980s.

I trust NVidia more than AMD, because my AMD CPU fried my other laptop, but regardless, my usage concerns are more monitors and smaller cards.

980s (or even AMD Sapphires) are double-high, and I need single-high.

Matrox's are single-high, so I won't take 3 cards and use up 6/7 PCI-e slots on the mobo I'm looking at.
I'll still have room for a NIC, a sound card, more USB ports, and maybe something else.
See? And that's the cool part! "And maybe something else". I'd actually have an extra space to decide on.

Of course, I'd probably only be doing some mild gaming, not like wicked graphics. I just need more monitors. Most of the crap I play is platformers, VNs, and Minecraft.
