This is what the new MacBook's motherboard looks like next to a Raspberry Pi. That's right, the MacBook’s motherboard is even smaller than the Raspberry Pi.

why the fuck would you play rips? that's as stupid as playing FLAC. you wouldn't be able to discern the difference even with a proper setup. the purpose of a RIP or FLAC is that you have the ability to choose various formats to drop down to, it's a utility format not a consumer one. unless you are planning to conversions with a pi your argument is invalid. and if you think thata macbook is a better choice to do such a thing, you're even more deluded. dollar for dollar a pi is far superior in performance from the macbook.

>therés nothing you can't do on a pi but could do on a macbook
For starters, there is running x86 software.
Second, the Core M is orders of magnitude faster than the shit ARM CPU the Pi uses. Core M CPUs are as fast as mobile Core i3/i5 of just a few generations ago, and can confortably run the Adobe CS suite, CAD modelers and even make decent renderings in V-Ray or something similar in less than an hour. The Pi don't even have this software available to use, and even f it had, it wouldn't be able to run them due to lack of performance.
Of course, Windows PCs that are much cheaper than the MacBook can also do that. But saying a Pi can do everything that MacBook can do is just hilarious ignorance.

Those fucking meanders on the Pi. LMAO. Someone should take a course in proper PCB layout instead of trying to solve problems that shouldn't exist in the first place with all that board real-estate wasted on gay logos.

Also: OP is not a fair comparison.

The Mac board is full-fledged SMD while the Pi has a shitload of through-hole components. In all honesty, if they REALLY wanted, they could cut the size of the board by 4/5 or more. Just look at those fucking massive 0805 components...

And more.. the Mac board probably has in the order or 20 layers PCB so signal paths and ground/vcc planes are easily routed while the Pi has what.. maybe 6 layers tops.

>>

Muh thin. 70% of the new Macbook isn't all the much physical space.
>>
>>47049993
now lets look at the size to cost
pi: 4793.6mm @ $35 = $0.007 per mm
crapple: 4451.604 @ $1299 = $0.291 per mm

the numbers don't lie, crapple is a ripoff we're looking at an explosive profit markup of 41.5x!

Firs they are about the same size, the apple mobo is just thinner and longer. Second the Pi is a full PC whereas the apple mobo is just a mobo with no ports on it.
Also the Pi is a PC for less than 50$, you shouldn't compare it to a netbook motherboard made by one of the richest consumer-tech companies on earth.

>anti-shill

Do you fucks even know what a shill is?

A shill is someone who supports a company or organization and who blends into the populace to make it seem like a portion of the community supports it. They're either being paid to do so or being brainwashed into thinking it's the 'best' thing for others.

You can't shill against a company, that's not how that word works. However, you can certainly shill for a company. In fact, shills are quite popular with terrible/low-quality companies, especially those who don't want to innovate/compete, but still want people to pay a premium for their products.

As an example: Apple.

i don't see why someone isn't buying barebones kits and installing iOS and selling it for double?
>>

Front page here, you're pretty dumb.

First, the parts are cheaper separate; your meager disposable income would go farther.

Second, the only think you are avoiding is spending five minutes to plug in a hard drive and stick some RAM in there. So essentially what you're trying to say is that you're too good to spend five minutes doing something to save you money, which would make sense if you were stupidly rich, but you had to go and put you foot in your mouth and mention how little disposable income you have.

Thirdly, stores ship everything in one package these days, get with the time. Newegg, TigerDirect, Amazon, they all do.

If you can't be assed to spend five minutes to save yourself twenty dollars (That's $240 an hour) then you are valuing your convenience far too much. Get over yourself.
>>
>>47052376
Cheap computers like these are legit. There are branded Windows tablets selling for $100
>>
>>47052406
Also I'm an idiot who can't do math, it's 60, not 240. I have no idea what aneurism caused me to think 240, but I hope it doesn't kill me.
>>
>>47052225
you forgot that /g/ is consumer electronics... no actual technology is discussed here other than r8 my desktop, nvidia vs amd and why apple is better than x... oh yeah, and the shitty headphone thread

when you don't include the USB ports, video card, screen power inverter, screen ballast, etc.

It's a lot to pay for something that will you will browse facebook on.
>>
>>47049718
they're both real computers
>>
>>47052761
i switch tabs, save jpegs, load high resolution pages with lots of content, stream HD videos, and use facebook simultaneously. This might seem like something you can do on a pentium 4 but the truth is that back when I used to do this on a P4, I did it, but I did it a lot slower.
Because when you think about it you were always waiting for longer than you wanted to, weren't you? Switching tabs would maybe take 2 seconds. Opening a new file explorer would take 4. And a few seconds here and there all adds up quite quickly to be a few minutes every couple of hours of computer use. It's not fun, trust me.
>>
>>47050002
Thank you for being reasonable with this lol ECE masters about to graduate and that's the first thing i thought. Sometimes I hate /g/'s maymay bullshit
>>
>>47052840
But you still can get a cheaper, more powerful thing than the new fagbook, or even something that has the same specs. The price of this thing is just too high for what it can actually do, and the one port thing doesn't really help it either.
>>
>>47052872
How much do PCB layers cost anyway these days?
>>
>>47053023
I mean a two layer is like 66 bucks for a prototype haha i get 33 for being a student
>>
>>47052914
Yeah, I'm sure you can get a 17 inch 10 lb 2 inch thick 1366x768 Acer for cheap, but hey, it has an i5!
>>
>>47053051
That being said. it becomes exponentially more expensive for more layers. Even for manufactured processes. Hense the raspberry pi being so cheap and wide.
>>
>>47053061
You can get the UX305 zenbook which is cheaper, thinner, has a 1080p screen(there will be a version with a bigger res, but do you really need more than 1080p on a laptop? ) and ports.
>>
new macbook totally has a SLC ssd right?
>>
>>47053135
It also comes with adaptive brightness that can't be disabled. And a power port that isn't integrated with data. No thanks, I don't want to plug in 5 cables each time I come home, and unplug 5 cables each time I leave.
>>
>>47051990
technically your tower doesn't either.
>>
>>47053157
Chromebook pixel than.
>5 cables
What? Power, Ethernet, HDMI and 2 USB devices?
Also, I'd rather plug in 5 cabels to my laptop than plug in dongles to use a USB stick or an external display.
>inb4 cloud storage
Enjoy not being able to access your files when you have no network access.

USB C flash drives and external hard drives will be coming out soon. But enjoy spending a minute fidgeting with 10 cables every time you come home or leave home.
>>

The size of the motherboard doesn't matter. What's more important is the cpu architecture and chipset. The Macbook has an x86_64 intel board, that will blow the ARM based Pi SoC out of the water.
>>
I dare someone to buy the apple logic board and try and install a distrib on it and oh wait it has no ports
>>
>>47052131
They don't include the parts because then they are expected to pre-install the OS.
This means paying Microsoft retail price for their OS, and then offsetting that charge by adding it to the product price.
Then the price goes up too much, so to reduce it a little they pre-install bloatware and get money from companies for the advertisement.

Nobody except businesses pay retail price for Windows, people get it reduced price for being students or pirate it.
Why the fuck are you complaining about a manufacturer trying to save you some fucking cash?
>>
>>47052286
Boost it up to 64GB+ storage and 4GB+ RAM and then we'll be talking.
>>
>>47052376
If they're not what they say they are, just open a dispute. The seller doesn't see a penny until you say it's good.
>>
>>47051347

Sad but true, this is the future designed by apple. And seeing how even here there are many people defending apple for doing it, I'd say that that we're pretty much fucked.

Let's just hope that at least the chinkpads stay the same.
