Nice looking website. I don't see the point of this, however; from what I gleaned it's basically arch with a GUI installer that lets you choose a few themes, and that's it.

If anyone's going to be using arch, I'd expect them to be more than capable of doing this themself.

IMO it'd be better off as just a package manager, not a whole distro. Still, best of luck

Here is (fixed) update 3 on the "traditional desktop"(openbox & lxpanel) theme.

Window shell and bottom panel are now slightly lighter (from #000000 to #0d0d0d). GTK theme has been started, it's a forked version of Paper w/ some color modifications)

Feedback welcome :)

actually i'm thinking of re-designed a theme that looks sleek and clean, minimalistic but not retarded based on MOTIF. i dig how the SGI's 4DWM skin is easy to handle but the windows/mac's " three buttons on a corner " is overdone. never really liked it.

in fact it will be very inspired by Irix. for the icons, idk yet. but i can do a thing.

pic not so related, it's old as hell.

Nothing stops you from creating distro independent .deb packages. dpkg is supplied with almost every distro, and only requires you to create a few directories with a few empty files before you can dpkg -i gentoo.deb
>>
>>47042326
I feel like we should allow more customisation within the installation. I have said this before but forking our own https://github.com/calamares and having an easy selection of DE, WM etc with themes specifically for each one. Maybe get a few ricers from the desktop threads to do the themes.

If this is something people would be interested I will get started.

As far as I know that was exactly the plan, I just don't think anyone has taken up the task of making an installer yet. There was some talk about whether or not to fork AUI script or to use calamares but ultimately I don't think the decision has been made yet.

The way I had envisioned it, on the DE/WM selection screen there would be options for "Lo/g/os Tiling" or "Lo/g/os Traditional" which would just be pre-configured i3 or openbox respectively designed for people who want something that just works out of the box without having to mess around with config files, along with the normal selection of vanilla software in pic related.

But it sure does have this serious business feel. If you're doing it from scratch, you got my attention.
>>
This is dumb as shit. Everyone involved please kill yourselves immediately for being a gigantic waste of space.
>>
>>47043392
indeed, we need to focus on what will be integrated in the distro, but the UI must look radically different than what's already present everywhere, it must be functional. that's why i love gnome2/mate. it's complete and allows the user to virtually do what they want with their Lo/g/os.

- MPC, VLC, firefox, audacity, krita, wine, and all the good stuff available.
- gparted as the disk utility by default, and TESTDISK would be a neat touch. make the distro functional and useful out of the box.
-might find the time to release an icon pack, something fussed if possible, not something shitty like you see on iphones/winphones or unity desktop.

>>47043423
it is inspired by Irix, i ported that skin a decade ago to windowblinds, along with the icons (somewhere on DA) but will not be like it. however it should be comfy to use on a tabletPC with a stylus or on a desktop.

I just want to clarify something, Lo/g/os is NOT dead. We have put development on hold in favor of the riceDB, but once that is complete we will release a functioning Lo/g/os ISO which will have numerous preinstalled themes which can be easily managed with riceDB. For the time being, the current ISO is not truly functioning as the .xinitrc must be patched and a few more drivers need to be added. Read our release notes on Github.

that's odd

though ctrl+alt+f1 wouldn't do anything even if X did start, as arch launches X on TTY1 by default, unlike things like ubuntu which launch it on TTY7
you need to use another F key

it's the next step as minimalism.

Speaking fo riceDB, where/can we contribute our config, scripts etc somewhere? Will there be a, sorted by shell, shell scripts dump?

why do people deal with this? what's the benefit of jumping through so many hoops to install an os? i can understand people doing it as a hobby, but there are people on here who actually suggest arch as a main os.

Yep, there will be security measures in place. For now hold on to your rices, once we have the basic server running, there will be a web and CLI interface for uploading your rice.

Most people dont care about ricing. They just want cool rice out of the box which is why crunchbang was so popular. So why wouldnt we come cool rice out of the box? Give the people what they want.

I couldn't care less about how it looks, that's opinion. But if the devs want it to take off, the website needs to read well, and not like it was written by an autistic 14 year old who hangs out in desktop threads.
