Honestly considering switching back from an iPhone to a dumbphone. Which dumbphone is the best?
Now go fuck yourself dirty hipster.
Nokia 515 if you care about looks and some functionality.
If you want rugged, the Sonim XP6/7 are awesome.
>>46232901
>>46232905
Hmm. Part of the reason I want a dumbphone is that I want to be less connected, though. Anything with literally just call/text?
>>46232948
Hm the Nokia 515 looks bretty gud...will have to figure out where 2 cop in canada
Your supermarket normally stocks shitty barphones with which to use Tracfone cards. Just use that.
Nokia 3310 all the way.
>>46232948
go retro stylish
>>46232805
as your pic suggests, you may go with refurbished old nokia phones starting with 7xxx/8xxx series. they are pretty premium. they were the shit back in the day.
the newest nokia dumbphones are geared towards cheapness, except 515. do you care about looks?
I suggest Samsung Ultra Style.
The battery was not the greatest, but build quality is nice and the interface is pleasant to use.
>>46233427
Holy shit! Is that the phone of the future?
Nokia 3310.
can it be phone nostalgia thread? where is this OP?
My last dumbphone. Probably the best one I had.
>>46233635
yes it is
cunt destroyer, the phone
Do you guys even swag?
It was a terrible idea
>>46233746
Quick, somebody build a time machine!
>>46233815
1 time machine, coming up
>>46233811
twist it nigga
>>46233811
>It was a terrible idea
there have been worse
bending phones were innovation, damn they were sexy.
>>46233878
wasn't this thing stupidly expensive? (and probably still is)
>>46233942
I wanted this thing so badly when it was first released.
But when I played with it in the store... damn was it fuck huge.
Get a Sidekick.
>>46233060
doesn't support 3g. enjoy your atrocious network coverage.
>>46233955
i don't remember it exactly but it was like that new audiophile thing from sony in terms of stupid pricing.
>there won't be any more commercials like this.

>>46233942
Wasn't the phone from Advent Children based off this design? It was stupid expensive and unwieldy
>>46233867
Does it come in black?
>>46234136
there's some info on that here, it says it's a panasonic phone.

>>46232948

>implying smartphones force you to be socially connected
>>46234137
Everything comes in black
>>46234205
Shut up and take my money!
>check your thin phone privilege shitlords
>fat acceptance, proud to be fat
wow, i just realised this thing is tumblr with a sim card.
>>46234251
nice MEME mate!

>>46234205
O-Oh my...
Get a nexus 5 and be happy
>>46232948
>i have no self control
faggot
>My ancient nokia C5 dies from battery failure
>Replace it with a Nokia 115
>3 weeks battery life and sorta comfy
>Then get iPhone 5C for xmas
>Have to turn of shit tons of features just to get basic battery life
>>46233746
ITS SO FUCKING THIN
I HEARD IT HAS BLUETOOTH
Get an old MemeBerry, like the Bold 9900. They should be sufficiently dumb that you don't have to worry about buttnet (I'm assuming this is why you want a dumbphone?) but you'll still get some of the features of smartphones, like browser, GPS, and a full keyboard, which may occasionally come in handy. Plus you can probably find one for like $50 now.
Remember when phones used to be innovative?
>>46232901
Isn't that thing sluggish?
>>46234912
Where new phone designs weren't just simple tweaks to a basic formulaic design?
>>46232805
Only option
>>46234975
When the best phones out were phones that pushed boundaries rather than keep within boundaries?
>>46232805
Just buy a random Net10 phone
This phone just cannot die.
Have it since January 2011. Battery still lasts a week.
>dem fucking SE cables
Also have a droid razr for internet and theter.
>>46234025
Wanting a dumbphone, I don't think he cares much about that
get a blackberry 9780 op.
>>46235084
Can you sing some more of your praises about it? This sounds like a nice option.
any good CDMA dumbphones?
>>46235084
The original base model for that, k800, was a piece of shit since the joystick was not properly sealed.
But that is a sweet keyboard.
>>46235447
I really liked the form of the Samsung Alias, it used digital keys that switched when it was a flip phone to a qwerty keyboard
>>46233886
i don't even
>>46233886
what is this
>>46232805
From my previous experience with dumbphones way back in the early 2000s, either Nokia or Kyocera.
I like to go with early smart phones that are still classified as dumbphones by providers
They offer a lot of variety and range in usage compared to normal dumbphones plus they go for cheap if you're willing to do some searching
>>46236573
But their batteries don't last as long as TRUE "dumbphones"
>>46236591
sure but it's still 2-3 days
Get blackberry curve or bold.
I used one of these back in the day (x820), as well as a Samsung t509. Pretty fantastic phones, although I think I lost the t509 and the x820's microphone stopped working after I fell into a pool with it in my pocket.
Samsung actually made some solid stuff back before they went all in on cheapshit smartphones.
>>46236669
I still have my T509
found mine on the street and it's been running great for years
>>46236694
street phone = best phone
I really like smartphones, but I sure would like one with a good physical keyboard.
Nokia asha 503
>>tfw the 504 looked sexy as hell but will never be produced
>>46236878
>tfw can't Swype on physical keyboard
>>46237186
>2015
>Not using touchscreen+physical keyboard
>>46237193
>2015
>using a physical keyboard instead of a holographic keyboard
>>46236573
Like what phones anon?
>>46237186
You actually can on the MemeBerry PassPort
>>46236488
>>46236091
It has tiny screen, 1 button and a wheel.
You spin the wheel until you select the option you like and press the button.
You use the same way to input messages. Spin the fucking wheel until you select the right letter.
Nokia was crazy back in the day.
>>46236878
Blackberry
dumb phones still can be tracked, even if they have no gps chip they still give away their location to the tower.
the dumb phones gsm protocols still make it easy to exploit since every phone has the gsm protocols.
most likely also has some of the backdoors for the nsa.
So yea, dont bother with any phone if you value your privacy.
>>46232805
Whichever you want. I liked Nokias from E series and if i would use them now, modern Ashas.
>>46238055
just saying, this gsm-based tracking isn't some conspiracy theory. At some point in my life, i was using my Treo 680 as a simple navigation using this feature - my treo hadn't any gps module. I couldn't use it continuously, it required manual update on location but still - it worked.
>>46236878
Either blackberry q10 (have one, love it) or Droid 4/Photon Q if you really just can't let android go. I still keep my droid 3 for my nerdic needs like linuxes, qwerty is great and big enough to fit every key you may need. I even wrote scripts and simple programs on linux with this keyboard, they're great - but 512mb of ram is probably not enough anymore (for everyday use, for my linuxes is more than enough) if you would want to get D3 - so, D4.
But for best end-user experience, you just can't beat blackberries if you want anything qwerty.
>>46238188
the most privacy conscious thing right now would be a tablet, without the gsm functionality. The tablet of course would also need to have arm, or some other non closed sourced hardware alongside with some nationwide wifi payed service that does not exist yet. At least our wifi things are a shitton more secure than the gsm protocols.
Seriously, as long nobody audits them to prevent man in the middle attacks (faking cell towers as well), plus a huge host of other issues with them. Cell phones can be considered extremely insecure.
>>46238055
Not even the Blackphone?
>>46238357
nope, the gsm protocols come before the os.
http://www.osnews.com/story/27416/The_second_operating_system_hiding_in_every_mobile_phone
and NOBODY, not even the russians with their "secure" yotaphone 2 have addressed these issues.
If you were to treat phones, (all phones) with the same standards as we treat pc's. They could ALL be considered a security and privacy liability.
Even landlines would have higher security than them since only the spooks can easily tap into them, not some random stranger with enough money to buy a fake tower.
>>46238391
ohh great. well, at least the baseband is insecure, so we can crack it pretty easily.
do you know if there are phones where the OS can work around the baseband? i assume it's not super low-level hardware stuff, just kernel modules pulling data from the baseband cpu.
>>46238422
No, I dont know more than that, been reading a bit through the comments of the article and apparently the open moko or whatever that phone is called does not have this.
But yea, what I wrote before is true, ALL phones, even the dumb ones have this.
Blackphone most likely as well, especially apple with their "encryption". The secure yotaphone 2 edition that putin handed to the president will fall for the same tricks as well.
the GSM protocols are just so bad. We need a new bundle of protocols, GSM2.0 that has all the security and authentication that we expect for our modern age.
Too bad that it wont be done since this issue isnt getting much attention. If we riled up the peasants a bit someone might take notice.
Personally I hope that someone rich enough will but a tower, or at a defcon will demonstrate exactly how to practically fuck with it.
>>46234994
I wanted an N95 so bad when they came out. Might get one as a PMP because those buttons look handy.
>>46238451
we have imsi catchers real cheap now, short list at https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector
what about LTE? if i turn off 2G/3G on my phone, does it help any
>>46238487
>https://github.com/SecUpwN/Android-IMSI-Catcher-Detector
wow that is pretty cool, I shall paste this link a couple of times into threads. Might get some light on this problem, you should do so too in app threads for phones.
>>46238487
Also, its just one possible attack venue, GSM has a lot of different protocols to handle lots of different things. Perhaps there are others who are bad as well or are exploitable that we do not know about.
>>46238500
their ui is disgraceful, and i don't think they actually understand the phone protocols or the machine learning algos they want to use all that well. le sigh
this thing never died and you can use it as an ashtray
>>46232805
I was considering switching from dumbphone to iPhone.
Why did you make this decision?
I'm using a dumbphone made by MaxCom. It's a polish company, but they are produced in China.
I got the cheapest one that was in store, it has dual sim, annoying ringtons and sometimes people don't hear me well, so maybe there's something wrong with the microphone. Also, something's loose inside, so when you move your head, you hear an annoying sound. What's cool is that it seems to have a function to block unwanted numbers, but I didn't test it.
MM131 Dual Sim.

>>46238751

> wanting wifi means wanting muh apps
> wanting wifi means wanting to require an icloud or google play account to fucking use my phone
> wanting wifi means wanting an enormous piece of shit that turns into a stove plate after a few minutes of use and requires two recharges a day

> wanting wifi means wanting no user serviceable parts and no removable storage and an unremovable battery
