Hope that 64gb EVO works, still for that price it's kinda tempting to fuck around with since it's running a full 8.1 version of windows not watered down ARM-RT.

>>45841147
Few guys on some forum tested the 64GB, no problems on it.

1GB is kinda kill though.

Idk is a dual core @ 1.8ghz and 1gb of RAM going to cut it for a plex server?

I like you. I have a friend with a Venue 8 Pro, I'm sure it'd run all that fine. But the 8 Pro is a bit pricy, consider other 7 inchers. I personally prefer smaller, but if you don't swing that way I'm sure there are cheaper 8"ers than the 8 Pro, that thing's getting kinda old now.

It gets the data from folder structures, metadata shit ripped from the internet, shit from filenames or a combination?
>>45852309
Well that shits on my plans of buying a HP Stream 7.
Wonder if I can find a way to trick it into thinking it's internal, you try anything?
>>
>>45852408
It uses file names to get the metadata. It uses TVDB for tv shows, so if your shows don't match up with the layout for TVDB, you'll have problems.

And like I said, you need your TV shows and movies in separate parent folders.

>>

What can this thing do exactly?
is it open source?
>>
>>45852563
You are the server, you dummy. You only use their shit if you want to use plex.tv in your web browser. Before they offered the idiot proof feature for web streaming, you could just as easily forward the port used for Plex management so you could access it from outside your network.

You couldn't before.
You're telling me you can now?
>>
>>45852681
What do you mean "before?" I've been doing that for 2 years. I didn't even realize they added that idiot proofing for plex.tv until I signed in one day to change my email address and noticed I could stream my content without having to go my DNS address with the port number appended to it.
>>
>>45852644
Not him but it looks like a comparatively expensive alternative to an RPi running XBMC.
http://www.solid-run.com/cuboxtv/
>>
>>45852699
It's been more then 2 years I tried.
You couldn't access plex from the internet without going through that godawful interface. It locked you out for not being in the local network.
>>45852708
RPi with XBMC is pretty fucking shitty
And define expensive, because you get a remote, case, adapter etc with it.
>>
>>45852723
Well before they launched their own servers to handle the out of network stuff automatically, during the setup process it literally told me which port to forward if I wanted to access my content from outside my LAN.
>>
>>45840797

>>
>>45852754
I might just try it again thanks to you.
>>45852708
It has openelec support and android support with a big community.
I think this might be good for what the raspberry was intended to do.
>>
>>45852644
Well there isn't much to say really, its a minicomputer based on an i.MX6 cpu (it runs Linux/Android/Free & OpenBSD/WinCE...).

There are many development boards based on freescale cpu, but if you're just looking for a small, low-cost computer I really recommend this.
The cheapest one is $80 and the most expensive one is $140.

I went from RPi/XBMC to this one and it works really well.

the fire tv stick is fucking $39 or less if you can find a deal and does xbmc and you get access to amazon prime (you do have amazon prime right?) and not to mention all of the other streaming services like hulu/netflix
and it supports casting like the chromecast
and it comes with a remote

it's literally the cheapest media player you can get that will work out of the box with barely any work

>>
>>45840728
I'm doing a similar setup myself however i wont use plex, i'll access the files on my NAS from a odroid-c1 running xbmc with a remote control as playback device, i should take a look at plex, seems interesting
>>
>>45852912
XBMC is great if you only want to use it on one device. The main advantage of Plex is having multiple clients that all share the exact same metadata because it's all served from a central media server. Whereas XBMC is stand-alone.

It all depends on what you need.
>>
>>45852873
Oblivion runs on Medium-High settings at Native resolution. Morrowind works great, you might want a faster SD card for it though, because saving is extremely slow on stuff slower than Class 10.
>>
>>45852891
What? I've found that it handles 20Mbs 1080p without issue.
>>
>>45852948
You can use XBMC as a client for Plex, which is what you should do.
Also why does nobody mention Openelec when talking about XBMC. It's like THE distro to use if you want a media player.
>>
>>45852965
Yeah, I've heard of PLEXBMC but I've never used it myself and I didn't want to comment on something I've never used.
>>
>>45852978

What?
I mean simply using XBMC as a client getting your data from a plex server.
XBMC as a server is pretty dumb
Plex client is pretty shitty.
Best of both worlds.

>>
>>45852999
I thought that was the add on you used to have XBMC used as a client. What do you use? DLNA? Because that shit is awful.

And Plex as a client is pretty nice now, with the Home Theater release. Much better interface than the Media Player version that preceded it.
