Dell S2340M as a main, and a Dell 2007FP for when I actually want 4:3

That one. I have An older version and a newer version. The newer one has the Vesa mount screw holes higher which was and move imo, but the light bleed is better.

Asus PB278Q, 27" 2560x1440 60hz (can be overclocked to 85hz supposedly)

DisplayPort, HDMI, audio out, fully adjustable stand, and semi-matte display. Got it for $300 and I love it.

>2nd
Dell U2211h, 21.5" 1920x1080 60hz

Got it used off of Ebay for $80. Wanted something with a similar PPI to my Asus to use as a second monitor and this was the closest I could find without getting a second 27" 1440p one.. The matte anti-glare coating on the Dell is pretty aggressive and fuzzes up the picture, also it's just not as vibrant as my Asus and the brightness does not go up as high. But it's still pretty good, well worth the $80.

I don't see myself upgrading or adding anymore monitors anytime soon. Plenty of workspace for me.

Except maybe an Oculus Rift if they look promising once they come out, or other VR HMD's.

Samshit SyncMaster P2450H.
It's alright. Actually pretty bad because it's TN, but I got a Dell U2312HM and that was even worse so I returned it. IPS glow and retarded AG coating were not for me. The gamma seemed WAY off too, making shit extremely dark.
I'll stick with TN for now. Maybe VA if they can get the pixel response times low enough. (are they already?)

This one's cool because it's got ADC. One cable from the monitor and it's able to turn on, display a signal, and provide two USB ports. It also has a touch sensor on the front for a power button for the computer (Like a fat PS3), you can even turn the computer on from the monitor. Not so cool anymore though since the PowerMac is a server now. It also has a touch sensor to open system settings.

Actually, I don't own either of those titles. I'm a map nut. I also love video games, so I tend to collect game maps. I'm in the process of framing every Elder Scrolls map as well as the Red Dead Redemption map. On the opposite wall I have a rare Blaeu map worth just under a grand.

Samsung SyncMaster S22B350. It was $200 on sale, so I grabbed it. But I'm looking at the Dell UltraSharp U2412H at the moment. Any reason why I shouldn't get it?
>>
>>45397079
because its overpriced?
>>
>>45397087
It doesn't matter what I buy, it's going to be overpriced; not because I want to, but because it's how things are priced here. 16:10, 1440p, and 144 Hz screens all cost over $500, and decent 16:9 screens cost anywhere between $300-400.

So, other than price, there's nothing wrong with the monitor? No real horror stories or the like with them?
>>
>>45397079
what the fuck why does that cost so much
I bought a U2414H for (£200)$310, and that's ramped up britbong prices.
>>
>>45397168
Contrary to popular belief, New Zealand is more overpriced than Australia, thanks to our low population, ridiculous import taxes, and a Goods and Services Tax of 15%. This price is the cheapest you can get here for this kind of monitor.

Aside from that, have you found the monitor any good? Because it seems heavily recommended on review sites and here and shit.

Because fuck yeah 120Hz MVA with tolerably low total lag. Useless, buggy interpolation that should never be turned on doesn't detract from its value.

Not quite as badass as my old NEC SuperBright CRT, but higher refresh rate at 1080p, and FAR more consistent because geometry and magnets.

>>
>>45392339

For lack of a better term, can someone redpill me on monitors? Apart from resolution and size is there really any difference between one monitor and another? What should I look for when shopping for monitors?
>>
Rog swift.
>>
this old crt @120hz
because i am to cheap for a 144hz LCD
>>
>>45397463
resolution, panel type (IPS, TN, VA,) and refresh rate.

Most monitors are 60hz (thats the refresh rate) Some are 120 or even 144hz. This is how many frames per second your monitor can display.

Resolution is obviously how many pixels are on your screen.

Size is how big it is..

IPS are great for color accuracy and popping images. They are also the slowest monitors in terms of response times. Almost all of them are 60hz

VA panels are great for deep blacks and slightly faster response times than IPS.

TN panels have the worst color reproduction but are the only panels capable of 120 or 144 frames per second, meaning they are incredibly fast.

It depends on what you do with your monitor, and what you are sensitive to, that will be the deciding factor.
>>
>>45397506
CRTs are better for motion anyways. And latency. And blacks levels, generalizing. Scaling low resolutions too. It's always worth it to keep one around, given you have time to often configure away geometric and color issues, especially with age.

Strobe backlight standard when?
>>
Dell U2414H (24", 1920×[email protected]).
>>
>>45397537
>72Hz

What's the improvement over the default 60Hz? I know nothing about this stuff
>>
>>45397524
>but are the only panels capable of 120 or 144
Not true. Both IPS and VA can often be overclocked, so to speak, to reach 120 as well. But it really depends on whether the panel is fast enough to actually resolve it, displaying every frame clearly without intolerable ghosting.
There's at least one VA panel that can display AND resolve 120Hz.

There's also the issue of latency. How fast the monitor can display any given signal. Which may be separated into signal processing lag (In the case of digital monitors, which is everything but CRT) and response rate (Phosphor decay for CRT). Which no producers or sellers, and few third parties actually keep track of.

You're also neglecting CRT, plasma, and OLED panels, which all have their various ups and downs worth researching.

>>45397463
>What should I look for when shopping for monitors?
Depends ENTIRELY on your personal use. There is no 100% best. There is nothing close to it. Regardless of what you're going to buy, or even look at. You're going to settle somewhere, ignore that one (Several, but you'll believe it's one) issue, etc.

Slightly smoother animations overall all over your computer, and most importantly, no stutter (e.g. during pans) in 23.976p/24p/48p encoded video content.
>>
>>45397559
24Hz x3, to reduce pulldown jutter.
Blame TV standards for going with ~23.976 FPS for video. Which is not even 24 FPS due to how color was originally thrown into the mix.

So I'm currently using a laptop, 17" (not like it matters). Building a new PC over BF, first in a decade. I see a few monitors mention having bad glare in certain lighting. Right now with my laptop I don't see glare as a huge issue (while noticeable, I guess I've "tuned" it out). Any estimation as to if the glare on http://www.amazon.com/Acer-H236HL-bid-23-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B00AZMLIDQ would be worse/lesser than my laptops screen?
