It's much cheaper now.
Alternatively just buy a Nokia N8 and use it as an audio player. It has a better Wolfson chip than any iPod ever made.
For an Audiophile tablet, get the Nokia N1. It contains a Wolfson DAC. The new head of Nokia technology in the US is the former head of Dolby.

Fuck off Nokia shill

It's not my fault your tablet sucks at audio.
Laptop
Cambridge Dacmagic Xs
Senal SMH-1000 with Beyer DT 250 velour pads
>>45238261
Unfortunately this means nothing because all of these DACs are actually chinese crap that licenses the well-known brands. Never believe Yamaha DACs and so on.
>>45238500
>chinese crap that licenses the well-known brands
Everything is made in China. Your argument is invalid.
harcore porn
>>45238500
except for the N8 as that's finnish made.
>>45239176
dac is bigger placebo than ssd
>>45239285
Keep crying bitch nigga
>>45238261
You know dac isn't the only thing that affects audio quality. Headphone amp is important too.

There is no "Wolfson WM895E" on the products list of Wolfson Microelectronics.
>>45239367
Because it's not out yet

>SNR 100dB
Meanwhile my Wolfson WM8741 DAC does 140dB
>>45239527
That's not the chip. See >>45239471
>>45239748
I meant to quote your post, the other one is 89 or something.
>>45239527
What do you have and how much did it cost?
>>45240158
127€ or $170
>>45240198
Explains it. that's the price of a whole tablet.
>>45241027
If you want to get technical, the DAC chip costs 17€ while the one in the tablet is 3.50€
>>45241060
How much does your screen cost?
>>45241165
I wouldn't know.
>>45241060
>17 € DAC chip for audio reproduction
Jesus Christ, that's probably the most pointless waste of a chip that I ever saw, or the most over-priced chip, if its performance is actually suitable for its application.
>>45239527
>140 dB
That is a nice number you pulled out of your ass, especially since they even admit in the datasheet that they cheated these figures by comparing a 1 kHz full-scale output, to the noise level with digital silence fed to the chip; the actual SNR is going to be considerably less than 140 dB (lel), considerably less than 125 dB, and probably somewhere closer to the THD spec of around -100 to -115 dB.

>need cheap USB mic for some quick music recording
>order one from newegg ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3M12511113 )
>wait over 1 month for it to arrive form China
>finally get it an it is DOA, "USB Device Not Recognized" on 3 PCs
>google, google, google
>Prognosis, "fucked"
>costs more to return that it did to buy it
>open it up and inspect everything
>multiple solder points not soldered, including a cap and the mic itself
>get out /diy/ resistive solder and go at it (pic related with smoking hot glue)
>fix all soldering points
>examine under magnifying glass, some of the SMD components aren't properly soldered either
>think about reflowing it, but when i look at the black glob i realize there's probably something under it that's not soldered properly either
>into_the_trash.webm
Okay, you get what you pay for, I know that, but this is ridiculous.
What is a good USB microphone for $70 or less? Don't just google something, anyone can do that. I need audiophile advice here. I also can't afford more than that amount.
Don't say, "Blue".

Samson Go Mic
>>45241996
Samson CO1u
>>45240198
Measurements or it's trash. It's insanely hard to achieve anything above 120dB actual SNR(which is a pretty pointless statistic on its own). It's also almost entirely useless to get the noise floor that low.
>muh wolfsun dack its da best
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s5-review-1064p8.php
Wolfson is nothing but a brand name, its not indicative of any quantitative level of quality. Lots of smartphones and tablets on the market of "audiophile" grade audio output without using a Wolfson DAC.
>>45242390
>>45242419
Both seem pretty nice in reviews. I think the "Samson CO1u" is more my style.
Thanks for the recommendations.
You guys are missing the biggest feature
>Micro USB 2.0 Type C
The first of it's kind.
IIRC, this is the only device on the planet that actually uses Type C USB
>>45242642
I've had the CO1, the older version, for several years. It's a real quality mic.
bliss
