I recently asked this too. I had the same problem, just uninstalled my antivirus and no longer had the problem
it's probably this
I recently came into a considerable amount of money. Is there anything else I should do to this build to ensure that it stays relevant for at least three or four years?
My lenovo x240 got caught in a revolving door. Is there any display I can purchase that is better then the original that came with it?
adblock (ad blocking)
stylish (custom css)
memory restart (alerts you when FF is too fat and gives you a 1-click restart option)
download statusbar (superior way for handling downloads)
downloadhelper (media ripping from sites)
flagfox (displays the flag of the country your current sites server is located in)
image search options (quick iqdb search, works everywhere)
image zoom (zoom and rotate images, great when fapping)
save image in folder (adds a custom list of folders to save to in your right click menu for images, the next is for links)
save link in folder
cloud to butt (replaces "cloud" to "butt")
is there a way i can make a program cool down in python? say i was getting it to repeat tasks and it reached a point where the system froze, is there a way to make it pause at certain intervals and allow it to get on top of all the calculations its doing?
i want to get into ipt or tl but no luck. Im active on a couple of smaller private trackers (one is slightly less known than ipt and the other one is local, mostly my country's content so its irrelevant here). What do?
Gomenasai, very stupid question. I should be able to google it but it's just not coming up.
How do I get epubs to show up in google play? I transferred them to the root folder but unlike my music it's not atuomatically detecting them.
Do I need a powerful computer to compile entry level coding? I got a 4690K and 8GB of ram. However, I'm carrying over my graphics card until I save up some more money. My curent graphics card is a GTX460. I'm planning on learning JAVA.
So I've backed up my android phone with Titanium unrooted it, updated it and now how do I restore it?
I dun goofed?
My Stupid Question ~ Are those compatible ?

I'm a noobshit trying out Linux by running Puppy from a USB drive. Ran a terminal, literally typed in listed post as is. I'm guessing ~ should point home or whatever, and running as root may make people rage. It's the default to run as and ~ is set as.
Did I just have a stroke or is your post poorly written? I didn't really understand it.
But, if you want to find which commands you ran last, just use the arrow up key to look through them.
Also, Puppy Linux is kinda... bad. Its main usage is for people who need a barely working and minimal system from USB flash drives for portable use (nowadays you can get better portable solutions). Why not install a proper distribution in a virtual machine or boot a live session of one from an USB flash drive (the downside will be that the changes won't be permanent)?
Coding, especially at entry level, is basically just editing small text files. So any PC will do.
That said, JAVA IDEs tend to be quite resource-hungry. You'll want, say, 4GB or better 8GB RAM at least. Compilation is faster with faster CPUs, but you hardly need an i7 as a beginner.
Your gpu doesn't fucking matter, unless you plan on coding vidya.
Is it safe for me to download a cracked version of windows office for osx of pirate bay?
Is there any other way to minimize chance of virus/backdoor?
>inb4 macs can't get virus
>inb4 macs aren't already backdoored
Is my external HDD beyond saving?
pic related, two different SMART software thingies.
I tried the repair option with sentinel and the formatting thingy with it. Idk what I'm doing;
PS. I already backed up stuff I just want to know if I should throw HDD away
Ask yourself, do you really need MS Office? Or are you using it because you've been used to it and don't really need any of its "advanced" features and you aren't being forced to use it by someone?
You could just get LibreOffice.
Only meant to say /root/.bash_history doesn't exist, and if further details was needed, also running as root, which is default. I'm in need of timestamped log, if that's possible. The info I'm seeking is also only for this current boot. Also more interested in whatever processes ran than actual direct user commands.
Why does the top style of adapter exist when the bottom style is so much more convenient? Is there any legitimate reason to put all that bulk in the most inconvenient place possible where you can only fit it at the very end of your surge protector?
Is there a legitimate benefit to it or is it just that it's cheaper or something and manufacturers don't give a fuck that it's inconvenient as shit?
You could check various log files in /var/log. If it's not there, you will probably have to install a separate tool like mentioned here:
>wouldn't be able to migrate
Because of school (aka the forced example from above)? If it's only for casual usage, trust me, she will. At least give it a chance.
As for downloading and activating it, no idea how it works for Mac OS. For Windows, there's that MS Toolkit thing which can activate MS Office.
But you could also try the other ways to learn. I tried:
Pretty bad. Basically only teaches you how to type things you see on the page. Doesn't explain things and the only good thing about is that it teaches you the syntax.
>Learn Python the Hard Way book
Awful, really awful. It does start from scratch, but the way it teaches you boils down to "type this, read this short explanation and then look shit up on the internet". I had to quit once I got to the advanced parts like object oriented programming, because it didn't make any sense (switched to the Gaddis book and it was explained better there).
>video tutorials on Youtube
Too random and inconsistent, all over the place. The same applies to random pages on the internet.
Yes, you can open and save files in that format. However, sometimes it has issues with more "complicated" formatting, but that's Microsoft's fault for not fully sticking to their own standards and other shady things.
Ubuntu. It's the most popular distribution out there and if you ever run into a problem, chances are it will be explained for Ubuntu.
How shit is your PC? If it's not, stick with the "standard" Ubuntu. If it's rather bad, try one of the flavors like Lubuntu or Xubuntu. Those are basically Ubuntu, but with a different "look" (desktop environment, look up what those are).
Ok /g/. I need to convert a ~60 MB .mp4 file to a <10 MB .swf file. for /f/.
How can I go about doing this? I've tried the online conversion tools, but they give me .swf files over 20 MB's big.
It's a pre-riced version of a stable Debian version not suited for regular desktop usage because the software is outdated for said usage.
Installing Debian from the netinstaller, upgrading to testing and then installing Openbox, tint2 and PCmanFM would be the sane choice. Not for someone who's just starting out though, because it's unnecessarily complicated.
How do you get python to properly buffer for making an IRC client?
It keeps saying can not use str but this comes from

I am trying to piddle around and see what happens using tutorials for starters
I need a new tv. I can probably go to a 32in (my old one was 26 but I only ever see like 24 and then 32 and then 39 in my searches atm)
Prob don't wanna spend over 300 but I don't need it to be a smart tv or anything super fancy. Brands and other things to avoid? Should I wait til after Cyber Monday(don't wanna shop on that weekend)? Pic just a random tv pic I found.

I have no programming experience, but I'm teaching myself C# right now to learn the basics.
I have a dream of creating my own 2d turn-based RPG game for the PC primarily, but other systems would be a plus. What would be the best language to learn to be able to accomplish that feat? C++?
Hey /g/. I did try googling first, but nothing helpful came up.
My HDD makes its typical working noise for a split second every 5 or 6 seconds. It's like it's developed a heartbeat. Not the click of death, just that typical noise except on a constant schedule.
It still works fine and all tests I ran on it came back fine so it's not a huge deal, but the noise is pretty irritating at the moment until I learn to tune it out. Any idea what's going on?
I know that the cold weather makes fans make crazy noises when they're first starting up, but I dunno if HDDs are affected in the cold as well.
Hey I just found a Thinkpad T61 and installed Mint as the OS. The problem is that the computer seems to be very slow using it. Is Mint with cinnamon too much for these specs and what would you recommend?
I really like the cinnamon interface, but it chugs horribly. Thanks.
I've decided to join the 21st century and get a smartphone.
Money isn't an issue. I don't want it to be too big or bulky.
I'd like it have a camera and be able to snap chat and instagram my siblings. Also I'd like to browse the internet and play youtube videos with high quality.
I'm asking you guys since I don't want to be taken advantage of by salesreps. I literally know nothing about smartphones.
I know a HDD won't last forever, but it's not really a clicking noise. It's more like something in the background that keeps accessing the HDD. I've had indexing turned off so it's probably not that and I've run malware programs constantly for over a year without a single positive.
I went and searched for a bunch of click of death sounds and nothing seemed remotely similar. It's not even really the usual HDD working noise, it's much more muted though that may be just cause it's for a way shorter duration than typical HDD usage.
yup, if another way exist, tell me.
android : java (C, C++ if you want)
ios : objective-c
multiplatform game (apple, microsoft, linux) : C++, C, java
stay on windows : C# finish learning C# and try doing something interesting with it
Doing 2D games can be difficult. go on this website lazyfoo.net, it's for C++ with the SDL library but he talks about some algorithms (collision, animation...) that can be useful, search on the web more about creating a 2D game. I recommend you to try doing something in C#
Just figure out which company isn't going to rip you off as much and if you'll get service in your area and then look at the phones they have.
The pricing is pretty uniform across your area/company. It's not like walking into a car dealership.
S-should this be happening? This is after starting a game at medium settings. The game also keeps crashing with BEX errors. Have tried everything to cure it but at this point I just think it's the graphics card or drivers.
Make the fan run at 100% all the time with afterburner or something, check that game, check other games, and report back.
When did this start happening? Is it a new card, one you've had a while, or one you bought second hand?
Is the AES key size tied to the AES block size? Namely, for 256 bit AES, is it safe to assume that in all cases the block size will also be 256 bit? Or could I have cases where I have a 128 bit key with a 256 bit block size?
Upgrading my computer.
Question is, would Intel Xeon E3-1220 v3 out perform the i5 that I have in the partpicker build? In terms of gaming.
Anything not in the part picker I have already from my old build.
I'm looking for a screen for my raspberry pi. Something smaller and cheaper than a normal monitor. Color isn't absolutely necessary, I'd even consider something like eink if it wasn't more expensive.
No. DC power (what a PSU outputs) doesn't work quite like AC (what comes out of your wall socket) where you can daisy chain. Every "plug" coming off of your PSU is called a rail, and each rail can only run one device.
Not if you back it up. But distro changes come with the assumption that you're going to format the drive you're running. So if you want to save your shit, back it up.
Use a shitty cheap TV or a cheapo monitor. Businesses are currently moving off of 1280x1024, you should be able to find one for a super cheap price. You might need an adapter (HDMI to VGA or DVI) if you go that route.
This is a shit question but I've spent 4 hours trying to fix it so please no bully.
Trying to build android on a debian system.
running make on it gives me:You are attempting to build with the incorrect version
Your version is: java version "1.7.0_65".
The correct version is: Java SE 1.6.
Please follow the machine setup instructions at
I get that google wants a high barrier for entry, and that's good, but I've manually replaced make, what more could they want? (Someone competent with java, I'm guessing...)
As expected, java -version gives mejava version "1.7.0_65"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.5.3) (7u71-2.5.3-1+b1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.65-b04, mixed mode)
1.6 isn't in any repo's anymore, I can't install it from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javaee/downloads/java-ee-sdk-6u3-jdk-6u29-downloads-523388.html, I'm just generally shitted.
If /g/ wants bloody lolipop on their moto /g/'s then a little help would be nice.
A bit of portability would be a plus, plus the ability for it to be out of the way, and I'm willing to/curious about scavenging one from another device.
>Use a shitty cheap TV
I already tried, one can't seem to handle even 640x480, another is just way too big for casual use.
Hmm, I do know two places where I could look for a low grade monitor!
Here's it at 82% fan speed, I don't see a difference. Ironically the game crashed just before I went to take a picture, so you can see when it immediately plummets. Started doing this when I got the gtx 970.
I used to play the game on my gtx 460 and had no problems whatsoever. Nothing has changed apart from the graphics card and drivers. Have clean installed them 3 times now and nothing.
>>45214471sudo update-alternatives --config java
1.6 is still around.apt-cache search openjdk
When you have the right version installed check which is selected as the default.
Also run javac --version, it might be different from your java version if youve installed both
I should also mention maxing the graphics settings seems to make the crashes more likely, like every 10 minutes-1hour likely, whereas having it on standard seems to let me get anywhere from an hour to never crashing - so I'm willing to bet it's either the drivers for it or a game update itself.
just mail your chess move in chess notation?
If it must be an electronic game that you transmit the whole thing, there are chess correspondence games like xboard
I'm unable to install lots of programs (ie itunes) and unable to install windows updates on my computer for lack of administrator privileges despite being the administrator. I'm fairly sure my registry is fucked up and this is the cause of my computer troubles. Is there any thing I can do apart from re-installing windows? I would rather not have to do that.
any drive detection software that is not extremely limited and generally evil in trying to grub your money? aside from my graphics driver I don't know where to find stuff, I remember using Realtek Via HD audio drivers but they didn't seem to help me at all and were a bit bloated.
Dafuq is my battery doing? Stock rooted KitKat on galaxy tab 3
My parents are frustrated that this android tv box they bought in some chinese store isn't getting them the kinds of shows they want anymore and asked me to mess with it. Is there any cool shit you can flash on something like this? I really wouldn't know and I don't know what to google.
anyway to make the windows 8.1 start screen go away completely? I mean ditching even the full screen overlay of apps that oppose the white tiles. I am willing to install third party shit to get it done. I am pretty sure I've seen this here, google is not helping, just links upon links on how to disable the live tiles.
I think my internet is randomly dropping. I'm mostly noticing it while either playing a game online or streaming myself play a game. I've tried using different software to stream, different hosting services and even tried changing my DNS none of it has helped. Any ideas?
Complete tech noob here..
How does encrypting your harddrive do? How does it work?
Does it just make your drives unusable until you enter a password?
Also what is the best program to encrypt my drive on windows?
Question: I want to get a caddy for my thinkpad so I can run my OS off an SSD and use an HDD as storage. Should I just partition my root, boot, bios boot, swap, and home on my SSD and use the HDD as a my storage/2nd home partition? Would I just have to mount them properly and make sure the fstab is correctly configured? I can't seem to find any direct answers on the Arch wiki.
What language Best Language for makea da vidya?
I'm learning C++ in a class and C++ with SDL on my own. It's pretty fun. I plan to also learn OpenGL and maybe WebGL after SDL.
I also heard of something called STL.
But, what language should I actually use if I wanted to say... put games on Steam?
Should I make C++ or Java games (I plan to learn Java, too)?
Is there another language that'd be better?
>Don't really like VB, and I don't plan to take the next course in it. Also, only useful on Windows. When I briefly tried (non-visual) BASIC, that was ok, but eh. I kinda like doing shit the hard way.
>Don't see a reason to take up C# since that's mainly for Windows, too.
My main purposes:
>Maybe some Android and iOS games/apps
>Desktop gadgets (not MS-specific, I mean things you run on your desktop, example is in pic[kawaii anime buddies])
>Eventually, an MMORPG (Probably Java, right?)
Overall, I've heard C++ is good for this, but I've also heard Java, so can someone give me some advice as to what each of those things would best use?
Also, when it comes to browser-based games, is Java really the only goto()? Or, does Python or Ruby/Ruby on Rails hold any real weight for comprehensive gaming?
Encryption is a really complicated topic to begin with. However, what essentially happens is all your plain text data aka non-encrypted data (File1.exe, File2.exe) gets turned into useless garble (xhbGA25jn, AGajn52mg) through the use of very complicated algorithms.
That essentially locks the data in that state using a key which is a password in most cases. Then to unlock it and bring it back to plain-text readable data you either use the same key (same key to lock and unlock) or in some cases a different key (1 key to lock and 1 key to unlock).
Thats a really rudimentary explanation and any real cryptographer would probably crucify me for my ignorance.
As for programs idk. I think bitlocker is pretty good.
I just bought a powerboard and noticed that it has telephone line sockets on the side.
What that all about? Does that mean I can bring my modem from the study (which has the phone line) and connect it to this powerboard?
I think so. I've only seen those a few times, but if you have a dial-up or dedicated phone line, I'm pretty sure you can. Notice one is IN and the other is OUT. You'll connect the IN to the wall and the OUT to the modem.
But, why you no DSL/cable/fiber-optic?
I have ADSL (australia) its all that is available in my area
Its just that the phone line/socket which currently has the modem is in the study.
From this room would I need another long ass cable to connect the powerboard to the phoneline socket in the study to bring the modem over to here? Would kind of defeat the purpose of what I am trying to achieve
I really wouldn't know. I only know MySQL. Although, the book the other Anon suggested is probably good. I was gonna suggest the same author. He has 3 editions of a dynamic web development book.
That's a personal point of view : don't create games with JAVA, please.
pick up the language you want. C++ is fine, C, java, C# what you fucking want. The thing you should be careful : try picking a language and a library that are multi platform, because many people are on linux or mac, so thing about them.
here a useful link http://lazyfoo.net/SDL_tutorials/
Ah, I see. Well, yeah, it probably would then. If I'm correct, those type of plugs are mainly for surge protection over the phone line. So, like if something struck the telephone poles, it wouldn't burn out your modem or modem card.
Possibly, it's also for convenience, somehow. I've only actually seen those types of plugs in a LabSim module for a Hardware class.
It doesn't actually provide a phone line itself.
MySQL isn't bad, but I (posted >>45216423) like Postgres more.
Really, you can probably easily find a generic way to write Python code and a generic SQL driver and be able to easily change the SQL back end so it won't matter which one you end up using.
There could be a lot of reasons. That's not something someone can just diagnose without more information (unless they knew about some kind of hacker/DDOS attack that we didn't).
As long as they're working now, just work with it :-)
Also just to add. My modem is connected to one of these things on the wall in the study
Depends on how much the cost needs to be factored in.
If you can afford an extra $100-200, go grab a 256-512 GB SSD and put the OS on that. Then, grab a 7200+ RPM HDD for data and media.
If you're REALLY strapped, then just get a 7200 RPM HDD.
Whatever you do, though, don't get 5400 RPM, because it's slow as fuck and not worth it.
A good combo would be a $200-ish 512 GB SSD and a $150-ish 2TB 7200 RPM HDD.
Damn thats a bummer
Are there any possible solution to turn a socket or something from this into a phone line
Im wanting to get a direct connection to the modem rather than wireless
Yeah, leave that in the wall, and use the phone wire from that to the surge protector, and then another wire from the surge protector to your computer if you wanna use the protector.
No, sorry. A phone line is a series and short electrical signals to transfer data. It's 0's and 1's. It also runs at only a few volts max.
An electrical outlet is an alternating continuous flow of electricity running at between 110-220 volts.
They're completely incompatible and don't really have anything to do with each other.
If you plugged a phone line into your modem and an electrical socket (somehow), it'd blow up the modem and melt the wire, probably cause an electrical fire.
Thanks for the input man
Ive heard about ethernet over power.
Are those adaptor things worth it? Sounds like something that will do what i am trying to achieve
Do you know if they are stable or if they would constantly cut out
I've actually never heard of those until now.
I looked it up, and this link seems to provide some info.
Firefox is terrible.
I use IE11 as my primary and Chrome as my backup. The only things I use Firefox for are web development checks, to make sure my sites are compatible for people who use it.
Suggestion: Update the plugins or switch browsers.

Also first virustotal link:
OR, you could try running two separate instances of it in different windows.
Also, my previous comment double 69'd. Therefore, Firefox must truly be crap. :-D
There is a "virus" going on in steam right now.
Remember when people tried to send you a virus in a .rar in MSN? well this is exactly the same thing just that they send you a link to a image but you actually download a screensaver which downloads some kind of malware.
Yes, for five reasons:
1) It's fast and good.
2) Displays my CSS better than Chrome or FF
3) Secure (auto-scan files)
4) Doesn't suck up tons of RAM
5) Kawaii anime mascot, Inori-tan, is super kawaii (this reason was enough to get me to try it)
1) It's slower than chrome and has fewer features/fewer options with at least twice the NSA botnet
2) Kek no
3) Lol, no
4) It's already part of windows' 800mb idle usage
5) More proof that windows is the choice OS of permavirgins that are too dumb for linux?
How can i encrypt telnet?
I can't use SSH for reasons.
Is there any better way to find the source of an image besides google reverse search? Specifically I often will find a single image posted that pretty clearly is part of a larger CG set but reverse searching just finds a hundred different places that posted it alongside other random shit without bothering to cite the source, and can be hell trying to find the name of the set it came from.
What do you want to wipe? You mean just return to a more or less default Windows state? Just pop in your install disk or boot from your recovery partition (depending on how your setup came to be) and do a clean reinstall, which can optionally include a format.
Of course your data is still recoverable with certain easily available software, but your brother probably doesn't know that and anyway I doubt it's anything you care THAT much to hide. If you're really paranoid just find DBAN and a similar tool though it's more work and will leave you with an empty unformatted drive instead of a working OS installation.
1) It's not really. The only issue is that it sometimes lags out when you first start it up. But, it does actually open faster than Chrome.
>I do NOT close tabs like most people. I close windows. I mean, I do both... but I close the window a LOT.
2) Well, for the website I'm working on, it does. For other websites I use, it displays it at least about equal.
3) Definitely better than Firefox, which doesn't have that built in. I mean, Chrome does also scan, but still.
4) Well, I can't agree or disagree with this, but it doesn't eat up assloads extra, at least.
5) Choice OS? For now. Permavirgin? Hopefully not. Too dumb for Linux? No, too efficient and I <3 GUI. I WILL take a course in Linux next semester... but I seriously doubt that would be persuasive in terms of getting me to switch... ever... It's not out-of-the-box GUI-maximized.
>Fairly enough, neither is Windows, but Windows is maybe 80% as GUI as I want my OS. Every Linux distro I've ever (briefly) tried is 40% or less. And, installation has to be through the command prompt, usually, and it doesn't just auto-install shit the way I downloaded it (what happened to COFF/ELF???). I normally DON'T change the file, and I want it to install as-is. I can ALWAYS remove it later, if I don't like it or if it installed other random crap. But, then again, I never actually saw a Programs and Features system on my distros...
Listen, I usually start getting ignored by some people when I argue about Linux. I WILL be trying it out, but I have no REAL intention to use it, except maybe Arch... as a project... WHEN I've basically MASTERED C++ (+/- C).
>Because, EVERYTHING must be GUI[-enabled] (as in, you CAN use CLI, but you NEED NOT).
That's why I wanna make my own OS at some point. So, I can uber-max the GUI for every single feature. Also, so it's integrated with desktop anime AI systems with access to your mic and webcam to be extra fucking kawaii built-in super cute.
Just switched over to NVidia from AMD...is there any legitimate reason to install this experience program or is it as useless as AMD's equivalent?
Yeah, assuming you got it as a prebuilt then I'd check and see if it has a recovery partition. (Sometimes it'll prompt you when you start up to press a key, or just expect you to know, F10 is pretty common for this.) that usually will include an option to restore the whole system to factory default state
its necessary for shadowplay
but oh buy shadow play is worth it.
qick sync still has better performance with smaller filesizes but shadowplay is really great with obs or for local recording.
stop trying to shill that dead ass browser back to life, Microscum. You guys tried to make a browser to compete with Netscape, and you won, big whoopdidy doo dah. Internet Explorer will not ever be a good, modern Web Browser, because of it's terrible history. Give up, and move on. It's obvious Microsoft is going with anime characters to lure in 4chan users. Get the fuck out, and fuck off.

Cool, thanks. Never had the urge to record anything so sounds like a pass for me.
Yeah, it's really annoying how there's no update option from their default control panel - AMD fucks a lot up, but they at least got that right
Firstly, I'm not shilling. These are MY reasons for using it.
The only thing MS pays me for is my use of Bing (I WOULD use Google, if Bing didn't give me Amazon gift cards every few months).
So, I don't personally care if you use IE or not. I only listed why I do.
Also, I'm not shilling for you to use a Windows, either. If you like CLI to install programs and shit, as well as change a lot of settings, good on you. I don't. I use CLI for MySQL databases and when I need to do administration, such as process force-killing and network configurations. But, I don't wanna touch that shit for modifying the way my computer looks and functions overall. Just gimme 3ps and hacks that I can double-click.
And, IDK if they're using anime characters for you guys. I'm one of the biggest weeb faggots most of you will see here.
And, I don't give 2 shits that you don't like it.
>pic related. I actually DO work in this envt.
But, NOW, I really have to go...
>Firstly, I'm not shilling. These are MY reasons for using it.

muh bing rewards
>Also, I'm not shilling for you to use a Windows, either. If you like CLI to install programs and shit, as well as change a lot of settings, good on you. I don't.
me neither. takes too much tinkering.
Why do cd/dvd drives have neodymium magnets next to the lens?
I heard that they had them today, so I took apart two old broken cd-rom drives and harvested the magnets. These magnets are stupidly strong.
Are there any differences in the power inputs between graphics cards in different countries?
I'm considering getting my friend to ship me a GTX 970 from America to Australia, but I don't want the card to arrive then realise that my PSU isn't compatible with it.
