Here's mine, anything I should change?

>$50 on a cooler
>$160 on a motheboard
Hilarious.

>$130 on a PSU
would be over-the-top hilarious if it weren't so sad to see this much retardation in one person
>>
>>45209171
Are you gonna offer an alternative or you just came by to bitch?
>>
>>45209030
If anything, if you had the room and you plan on overclocking, I'd spring for a bigger cooler if I were you. I know it's Noctua and all, but it could always be better, especially considering Noctua has a larger one (NH-D15) that can beat out an Corsair H110 water cooler.
Another point I would change would be expanding to 16 GB of RAM, but that's just a personal preference.
Throw some fans in there too.
>>
>>45209193

They never offer alternatives because they legitimately have no idea what they are talking about.
>>
>>45209193
Here's my alternative: Instead of wasting your money or absolutely retarded purchases like that, it's easier to just take the money bills and throw them into a fire.
>>
>>45209269
Will a good PC be birthed from the ashes?
>>
>>45209193
Not that guy but if you're just going to do gaming and browsing and nothing processor heavy like video editing you may want to consider getting a cheaper i5. At the same time if price isn't an issue and you plan to do some overclocking while I love Noctua that particular fan may not be suitable for that task. It's definitely better than stock for sure. I like Corsair cases but I'm not a big fan of the double wide form factor. The Obsidian series is lovely. Is there a particular reason you're going with a 5400rpm 2.5 inch hard drive for what I'm going to guess is game installation / media storage? I suppose that'll work fine but I'd prefer 7200rpm instead. Are you putting in other storage? It just seems like you could have gone with a smaller case for the parts you bought. If you're not putting much in you might want to explore mini-itx options.
>>
What about this everyone ?
I'm thinking its good so far.
Just need to find a CPU heatsink that will fit.
http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/YknhGX
>>
>>45209327
Sounds good.
He probably went for 5400rpm to save money.
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3KYYbv
Probably wont get the monitor, 1440p is still expensive though
>>
>>45209299
No, but it won't be birthed from this crap you're buying either.

Here's actual alternatives:
Get a Z97-P (or whatever is their cheapest Z97 motherboard), you don't need anything more than that.
Overclocking is already a retarded idea to begin with, but if you must do it, spending more than on a 212 Evo is just retarded.
And even a Corsair CS450M is already more than enough to run that build. If you don't like Corsair and/or want higher wattage (even though it's completely unnecessary) you can still get a 750W EVGA Supernova for less than half of that overpriced shit you picked.
Then use the money you saved to bet a better GPU or a better hard drive, for instance.
>>
Mid Tier SSD, combined with a Hitatchi laptop drive spinning 5400rpm
do you even wot
>>
>>45209394
you know what OP, get a RAID 5 array of 15k SAS enterprise 1TB drives and stop being a faggot
>>
>>45209269
>I have no alternative I just dropped by to be a little bitch

>>45209259
Right you are.

>>45209240
I just plan to play around with overclocking a bit, the only reason I'm getting that fan is low noise.
But now I've read it's high rpm (in turn higher noise) so maybe I'll get the NH-C12P SE14.
I'll have to check if it fits though.

>>45209327
5400rpm because It'll be mainly for long term storage.
The SSD is more than enough for my needs since I'm not a big file hoarder.
2.5" is because I want to remove the hard drive cage completely and install both drives in the SSD bay.
>>
>>45209345
Unless you use highly multi-threaded professional software, get an i5 instead.
Get 2x4 GB RAM. It costs the same and it's twice the bandwidth.
Don't buy "Pro" placebo SSDs. Get an 840 Evo, or better yet, a Crucial MX100.
>>
>>45209345
Anyone is going to r8 h8 and masturb8 ?
>>
>>45209417
I answered you here >>45209388 faggot.
>>
>>45209441
840 pro has a longer warranty is quicker due to sata 6gb\s and also I could use those extra 8gbs.
Moving on I have annother 8gb of ram of the same make so no I'm not going to fuck around with that.
And twice the bandwidth doesn't matter anywhoo because what I will be doing won't matter with the bandwidth.
I'm getting an i7 for exactly that as well.
I do 3d modeling and video editing.
>>
>>45209388
Seems like you're pretty militant about your point of view (like a little bitch would be), and in all that excitement of jumping at the first chance to bitch never considered that the parts I'm buying are restricted to the store I'm buying them at in the country that I live in.
The store btw doesn't have 212 Evo, nor the evga psu's (which I'd gladly buy btw).
>>
>>45209460
Just go back to your usual boards (/b/, /v/, /hm/ etc.) and stop shitting up muh /g/.
>>
>>45209388
I'm not OP, mate...
>>
>>45209517
Stop giving attention to the little bitch.
She'll always calm down after you ignore her.
>>
>>45209487
Then buy stuff that isn't ridiculously overpriced. If you pay $50 for cooling and $130 on a PSU, then you are a retard. It's that simple.
The motherboard is a lesser issue, but you're still buying crap you don't need.

>>45209482
>quicker due to sata 6gb\s and also I could use those extra 8gbs
All the SSDs I mentioned uses SATA 6 Gbps. And the Crucial MX100 has 256 GB.

If you're going with a Samsung Pro it might not be a bad idea to consider the 850 Pro with its even longer warranty and some of the benefits of v-nand. But the 840 pro is also good. I use one. If I'd have waited another month or so I definitely would have gotten an 850 pro though.
>>
>>45209597
Would you recommend that samsung drive?
>>
>>45210181
Yes, I have one in another PC as the primary drive running 24/7 since 2010 without drive failure, and those two in this PC as secondary drives since mid 2011. They were also $70 each. I'd definitely recommend.

Okay I have run into a problem.
I cannot find if the Silverstone gd10b can fit a gtx 970 ( the Asus strix version)
It says on one website maximum thickness is 5.25 inches and the card is 5.5 inches.
So I need to know if that will be a problem because I have seen other gtx 970's in that cause but not sure how big the strix is compared to mother 970's
Either need to know it will fit of find a case that will fit.
And I want a horizontal mobo that is not that horror by cooler master. I want something not very flash or noticeable.
>>
>>45210610
Are you speaking from experience?
>>
>>45210640
if the card is wider than the case allows, it won't be able to fit, simple as that
the strix is 5.5" wide and the gd10b only allows for 5.25" cards, so it won't fit
>>
>>45210679
yes, also witnessing several topics about the issue
for matx you're better off going for one powerful card (the 980) than two less powerful cards
>>
>>45210710
Is that total card width or just the width most people are concerned about? My GPU is sold as 4.37" wide when it's true width is really 5"

That said two 970s in SLI beats the pants off a single 980 and the price isn't too terrible either. The difference between the 970 and 980 isn't as separated as it once was.

If you're concerned about the wattage you may want to add a second 970 to your configuration and see if there's enough power in the estimated wattage to support it.

For just a Mini-ITX board you could try one of these cases:

>Bitfenix Phenom Mini-ITX (easily fits but bulky as pictured)
>Coolermaster Elite 130

Hey guys so I fried my mobo and I'm looking for a replacement that will be a good base for a future upgrade. I need support for my intel i7 920 and my 550 ti. I don't need dual card support.

However, after searching for such a motherboard, I realized that nobody gives a fuck about mobos with socket LGA1366 anymore. So I should be getting a new CPU to get a more modern mobo. What is a good cheap alternative for my i7 920 @2.66Ghz? And what mobo? I'm going to keep my 550 ti for now.

In the same vein even Ivybridge Dual-core i3's outperform the 920 now.
Get yourself a low range i5 Haswell to retain that quad-core goodness but don't break the bank unless desperate for more performance (in which case you're still better upgrading from the 550ti)

>>
>>45212195
Ah apologies, my advice came from the persepctive of someone that never overclocks and uses stock coolers only.

I tend to get 2nd board in a generation (1155 in this case), get a low-end decent cpu that's good enough then whack on a high-end when the socket is about to be killed off.
Started with an i3-2120, now sitting on a i5-3570K.

Won't be jumping on the DDR4 bandwagon until one socket has come and gone to work out the kinks
>>
>>45209030
1. Dont get micro atx
2. Install windows 7 ultimate on your SSD
3. Dont get Evga GPU get ASUS or MSI
4. For that CPU cooler price get water cooling and overclock your intel core, that K means the CPU unlocked
>>
>>45212295
No problem, thanks for the advice anyway.

It's kind of a waste of your 3570k if you don't overclock it though, that's what K versions are for, they have an unlocked multiplier. Even with a stock cooler you should be able to squeeze a bit of extra performance out of it

I've been using ASRock for a while now and find little fault with them and they're usually on the lower end.

I don't really want "everything on ultra 100 fps" gameplay. I just want to be able to play on decent graphics with decent fps, with a relatively future-proof machine.

Hell I'd rather downgrade the GPU to a 265/270 and buy an SSD than upgrade the CPU much further.

Ehh, pretty much any recent ssd will do fine honestly, I'd recommend starting at 256GB.
You should back it up with a decent back-end, SATA-III ( although II would work quite well, you'll miss out on big bursts ) and AHCI mode.
People especially forget about the latter.

>>45212943
Drop the cpu cooler.
The lack of a ssd is... disconcerning... Any build above 600$ should have a ssd.
I'd also recommend getting a smaller gold psu, something like 400-450W.

Audio I'm going pure headphones, so that's not a problem. USB mouse and headphones, but I'm probably gonna have to buy a splitter so I can plug in a wireless adapter (I can't get a hardwire connection in the place I'm in right now).

>>
>>45213016
256GB SSDs are far beyond that budget, I've run all those SSDs in said modes, it's not that big a deal for daily use, all you gotta do is keep programs open and put your computer into sleep mode rather than shutting it down.

>>45213045
I ment, do you have those things, or what are you getting? theres no reason to spend a thousand dollars on a gaming PC.
>>
>>45213042
Just look for cpu performance of the 7850K.

The 280X TRI-X is more of a premium 280X, if it's equally priced that'd definitely be my recommendation.

G.skill DDR4 @ 3000mhz
Asus Rampage V
2x EVGA GTX 980 @ 1550mhz core
3x LG 27" EA63 IPS panels in NVSurround

And I figure I'll pick up a 60~70" 2160p TV this week... Thinking of the Vizio P series since it has the lowest known delay of the bigger tvs this year.
>>
>>45213068
so a 860k is basically a 7850k without the iGPU?

Still, even the 7850k isn't bad, compared to my previous pick of i5 4440/4460, since it has comparable performance for less than half the price.

I don't need the iGPU since i'm getting an external one anyway.
>>
>>45213128
Depends on where it feels lacking for you.
But if I had to pick one thing, it'd probably be the RAM.

>>45213139
Don't get the 1TB one unless you have a good reason, just stick to 256GB or 500GB if you REALLY need it, 1TB is kind of a waste right now.

>>45213153
Yes.
The 860K is a stripped 7850K, it's clock is also a tiny bit slower ( you can fix this easily in the bios ).

I've been really burnt out from trying to OC this damn CPU. I'm stuck at stock for the time being because almost all of my OC attempts have been unsuccessful, but I don't want to get rid of it since I've only had it for like two weeks.

Though it may be more of a problem with the board itself now that I think about it. Damn thing is a nightmare to build around once installed and is overly sensitive to the slightest bios changes. Had a couple of scares earlier today where I thought I fried the damn thing trying to hit 4ghz since it wouldn't boot. Even trying to hit 3.6ghz was an ordeal.

Anyway, I'm either gonna upgrade my CPU + mobo to haslel or get an R9 290 + an NZXT S340 or Enthoo Pro. Or, I might just stick with X58 and swap out the board for something else.

What would you guys do in my situation? I like having the extra cores/threads but I'm not a big fan of leaving the damn thing at 2.6ghz.

I moved from an antec 300 to a fractal arc midi last year, so much better in every imaginable way.

Also, how much quieter is a NH-U12/14S vs a 212
Evo with stock fan?

Any Canadian here? What's the best gpu for the money to run Witcher 3 at 1080p 60fps ultra?
>>
>>45215197
AS the Witcher 3 isn't coming out for another 3 months, I would wait for the AMD 3xx series. If you really can't wait, then a 4gb 970 would be the best bang for your buck
>>
>>45214529
The whole point of those APUs is that you don't need to buy a shit tier gpu like that one, you can just use the integrated gpu which is almost as good. It's pretty retarded to buy such an expensive water cooler for that processor, just used the stock cooler that it comes with and spend the extra money on a better processor, or motherboard. If you use the stock cooler, it should come with thermal paste pre applied, so you don't need that. Get cheaper ram, preferably 2 stick for dual channel goodness. Holy shit get a better PSU that one is terrible, like a Corsair CX430. I'd skip getting a SSD for now and use those funds to get better parts elsewhere, SSDs at that range are terrible anyways. You don't need to buy a sound card.

Parts that are $0 are ones I've owned for long enough that I don't remember the cost.
Everything else not marked as "purchased" is on its way.

Rig is bottlenecked right now- I'm waiting until 980 price drops for SLI. Probably get watercooling then too.

Anyone here own the Corsair Air 240? I need to know if the case can fit two top 140mm fans and two front 140mm fans.

If not, how many 120mm can I fit? thanks

Can a Gigabyte GA-F2A88XM-D3H overclock an X4 860k?

I know that some Mobos don't support overclocking.

So lets say I have a Corsair 330R case and a GeForce 980 GTX card. All the peripherals are taken care of. $800 left for the rest of the build.

Advice appreciated, as it is my first build. Primarily for frequent moderate intensity gaming and adobe photoshop and movies.

I'm thinking about changing up the motherboard in my current build.

Here's the link tot he board: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gah81d3

Here's my current build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/BvXtrH

I have enough wiggle room to add about $20 to the board. Any suggestions? Or should I leave it as it is?
>>
>>45216069

I'd probably bump it up to an H97 board so you won't have to worry about bios updating for the haswell refresh chips. They start at about $10 more than that board you're using.
>>
>>45216049
What would you prefer to see him using? X99? Z97 is perfectly acceptable.

Honestly I'd call it both, I love what I do and do it because I love it. The salary I consider a perk because I'd continue doing 3d animation for some kind of a project for free if I didn't get paid for it.

I fixed it for you

>CPU
Fine
>Cooler
That particular model is meant for low-powered, SFF builds--either go big, and get the full-size Noctua, or get the go-to CM 212 Evo
>Asus TUF
Doubt it's made my Asus--RoG feel like they aren't, so I bet TUF is in the same boat, nevermind ASUS is overrated nowadays
>RAM
Fine
>SSD
Granted, it's 256GB, it's one of the lower-range SSD's so don't expect leaps and bounds
>Hitachi
You dun goofed--Seagate or WD. For general storage, get Red over Green, and don't go over 3-4TB. Gaming, get Black or SSD cache a RED. Can't speak for desktop Seagate, but their SSHD might be worth looking at.
>EVGA GTX 970
Ya dun goofed again--MSI or Gigabyte. And in spite of what people say, don't get Asus because anything that a 970 Asus card can do, an MSI can do better.
>Corsair
Cases are personal preference, but I wouldn't go with Corsair--they cut corners and people have been reporting rattling/vibration with their hard drive cages
>PSU
Fine

You're joking right? Macs have been out of the professional scene unless you're some dumb american for a decade now.

No one in the graphic design industry outside NA still uses a mac. No isheep here in SE asia outside of the consumer market.

I can't stop fretting over the motherboard and power supply. For the board, I need a S/PDIF for surround sound. And I know dick about power supplies, so I don't want my computer to fry, but I also want enough room so I can upgrade some parts later (and of course, at a decent value)

Help me. :(

Sell the 780's and buy 2 970's and overclock them and enjoy your extra money and almost identical performance
>>
>>45217529
970's typically bench slightly lower than 780ti's, I'd just be fucking around and losing money on resale in NZ since I got them cheaper than 970's.

So out of curiosity why does everyone seem to dislike EVGA for the 970 cards? I mean, I've heard about the coil wine but it looks like lots of other brands are getting negative feedback for that too, so is there something else going on here or are the EVGA cards just that much worse off when it comes to the coil whine? Which brand do you guys like for the 970 series and why?
