http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/11343631.Over_600_paedophiles_arrested_in_huge_crackdown/

NCA deputy director general Phil Gormley said the crackdown, the biggest ever operation of its kind, involved alleged paedophiles who used the so-called ''dark web'' as well as traditional internet access.

The ''dark web'' is internet content that is not listed by normal search engines. Users will often use payment methods such as virtual currencies to help avoid detection.

Tor is not broken
For the thousandth time

They get pedos by identifying them through tor, not by breaking tor.

These pedos reveal who they are due to bad opsec. Law enforcement is collectively breeding a race of super-pedos with great opsec.
>>
>>43032971
It only gets breached because retards leave JavaScript and flash on.
>>
>>43033468
>this is what tor users want to believe
>>
>Mr Gormley said sex offenders should realise that they cannot avoid detection while using the internet, even the dark web.

Yes, they can, its just that most people don't. Remember the NSA "Tor Stinks!" slide? What you can't do is just run a tor plugin on your ordinary windows box, switch it on to look at your CP, and then switch it off again. You need a dedicated machine running a properly locked-down OS and browser, which means doing things like disabling javascript (A JS vulnerability in Firefox, not a hole in Tor, was how Silk Road 1.0 went down) Proper security is inconvenient, so most people won't do it, but those who do aren't going to be getting backtraced.

Also friendly reminder that in 20-40 years pedosexuality will be like homosexuality and interracial marriage is today, generally accepted, with those who denounce it regarded as bigots.

Paedophilia is the one thing in society that has gone from somewhat acceptable to completely abhorrent and unacceptable.

People are becoming more and more puritan, so there's no way in Hell that 'pedosexuality' will ever become accepted.

I sincerely doubt that. Both of those things are between consenting adults, whereas it's generally accepted in most industrialized cultures that children are not capable of giving informed consent because they don't fully understand what they are consenting to. It's certainly possible that that attitude will change, but I don't think it's likely to happen any time soon.

It doesn't specify how they caught them through tor, so it most likely involves someone posting a picture of his children with with some traceable information in it.

And to add as an example, (not bumping because it's off-topic), things like pornography are becoming seen as morally repugnant and things like men's magazines, which often have bikini-clad women in photoshoots are becoming more and more rare as they're deemed to be objectifying women as sexual objects and things along those lines. Things that are about overt sexualisation are becoming more and more demonised.

However, things like casual 'sexuality', as in what people see as normal, has changed. The standards of casual decency, are lower in that people can wear daisy dukes, yoga pants and whatever else have you in public, showing off every part of their body for the world to see and not be called indecent because of it.

It's actually quite smart. By using alleged for a definite case over and over again and people will eventually associate with allegations with doing the crime, leaving no doubts. Then you can basically steer the public in any direction you want by mere allegations because someone is as good as guilty by that point.

Pretty sure they're talking about "children" by the legal definition. Biologically, our primitive urges want us to mate with anything old enough to reproduce, and in humans that starts as young as 12 or 13. Mating with a partner clearly too young to reproduce IS a disorder, because it's biologically functionless.

The proper definition of pedophilia is attraction to pre-pubescent children, not minors. The cut off is set by biology, not the whims of human law.

There are good reasons for resisting "natural" things. Just because something is innate in us, doesn't mean we have to accept it, and it certainly doesn't mean it's good (naturalistic fallacy). Even if paedophilia was "natural" you wouldn't be any closer to proving it should be accepted. Humans take a long time to mature emotionally and psychologically, much longer than it takes us to reach biological maturity. Society should be structured to protect this period of extended development. That's why our age of consent is between 16 and 18 in the West.

>>43034922
fair point but unless their collection is like 30+ GB they could easily set up essentially a killswitch that wipes their collection when they press it. They could then setup motion sensors outside their house to detect when anyone is near so that they would likely have enough time to react. Then they can easily wipe on the first suspicion of shit hitting the fan.

Better yet, put the collection on a externally powered ramdisk with a battery backup (in case of power outage), that way you can keep your collection as long as you want, and you have an instant wipe whenever shit hits the fan (retarded police would probably accidentally wipe it anyway if you didn't).

I'm just asking for some sanity in this idiocy. If you're going to commit crimes, at least know how to cover it up.

Most 0days in Firefox, or any browser, require scripting. There's very little else that's susceptible these days. There have been buffer overflow bugs in some rendering code (didn't jpeg have one a few years ago in MS Windows?) but you usually need scripting.

The next biggest security hole are plugins, not the browser itself.

In a different way. Things aren't as black and white as people like to pretend they are. Paedophiles put them on a pedestal in terms of attraction, sexual desire, etc. Normal people put them on a pedestal in that they're sanct and should be free of corruption of things that are deemed to be the realm of adults, which includes anything to do with sex, attraction, relationships, etc.

TOR, on its own, is unsafe for this reason:

>as well as traditional internet access.

That's how they got caught. It's the same as when the FBI busted a surfacenet pedo forum awhile back and yet claimed they had defeated pedos using Tor just because the forum suggested that its users browse the site while using a proxy. Police love to talk big.

There are also many non-technical ways to figure out who someone who through Tor or any other proxy. So far there has been only one confirmed JS deanonymization exploit deployed on the onion network, and it only worked if you 1) ran windows, 2) used a month-old version of Firefox/TBB, and 3) had JS enabled.

That's British media for you. You're given the sense of belief that there are differing viewpoints, but like the political parties, they all have the same agenda.

Funnily enough, following yesterday's announcement of the formerly criticised data retention law being passed through the commons, the BBC has put up ANOTHER article regarding cyber crime to influence people into thinking more surveillance is necessary.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28335976

The timing of these articles is almost comedy. Normally they cycle through headline news during the day, but these two have been prominent since going to 'print'.

Thanks for the tip. I don't follow the mainstream news cycle at all anymore. I get most of my intel from IRC and mailing lists, and various forums. It's nice to have specific examples of how the sheep are being fleeced.

That is indeed so obvious it's comical.
>>
There's nothing "wrong" with Tor. It's working exactly how it's supposed to work. The problem is, Tor was invented a few years ago back when it was considered an absurd hypothetical to imagine an adversary who could surveil the entire Internet at the same time. The NSA does just that. They can look at traffic across the entire world, in real time, simultaneously.

Tor can't protect you against an adversary with those capabilities. It can, and does, slow them down considerably--but it's just a matter of putting in enough effort to deanonymize you. And they're storing all the Tor data to work on in the future, so even if they don't get to you, they will some time in the future.
>>
>>43041283
The only reason I read mainstream news these days is for jokes and because it's somewhat annoying how much influence they have and how they get away with it under the banner of being a 'respected' news source by the vast majority of people.

The mainstream media isn't run by dummies. They're smart and they're very capable of influencing the wider public. It's almost disgusting, the degree and frequency at which they do this, and it's also disgustingly effective.

I wish I'd bothered to make an archive of the amount of times the BBC, especially, has pulled this shit in the last year, more so since the Snowden ordeal began. People fall for it every single time.

not according to the letter of the law but they the media is effectively banned (refused classification) due to: "depictions involving a person who is, or appears to be, a child under 18;"

it's perfectly legal to own such material but it is illegal to sell it (so you can go buy it in another country and bring it back)

it's effectively illegal

>>
>>43042566
>the media is effectively banned (refused classification) due to: "depictions involving a person who is, or appears to be, a child under 18;"
The director of the classification review board literally said "Depicting smallbreasted women is not grounds for a publication to be Refused Classification, nor do the classification guidelines refer to the size of a woman's breasts."

The application at this time targets the "barely legal", "Just 18", teen market. Which while as bad an enactment of censorship, is not remotely equivalent to "small breasted women are now banned".

Yes. The classification board is vague for this very purpose. Frankly it makes little difference given the death of optical media and non-subscription offline pornography.

It seems like privacy networks should do more to try and deter this kind of misuse in the first place.
