Yesterday I read a wonderful post by Anonymous where he/she/xhe/xsher talked about exploring Dogecoin with his/her/xher/xhis 11 year old daughter. Last night I came across a wonderful string of tweets from a middle-aged woman introduced to Dogecoin, concluding by asking if "this might be a way to connect people of all ages." I firmly believe that Dogecoin's success, both in terms of making a positive impact on the world and being adopted as a mainstream currency, depends on bringing people of all ages and backgrounds on board.
That is why I would like to ask the community to help keep this subreddit welcoming to everyone. Over the past few days I've noticed an increase in people saying "she wants the D", or describing how a price increase gave them an erection. I'm not saying any one of these jokes is horribly offensive or morally wrong, but they send very clear signals about who is in this community and who it is for. They're not signals that I think are welcoming to those who aren't young men raised on internet culture (like myself). We've done a great job so far of being the cryptocurrency for everyone, it's really important that we keep it that way!
How can we fix this? I'll be downvoting and responding to sexual comments that don't add anything to the discussion with a quick, polite message explaining why I downvoted. I hope others will do the same, because the more approachable we are to everyone, the faster we'll reach the moon!
