Amerifag here. Gabo (may I call him Gabo?) is one of my favorite authors. You've chosen the wrong book, though. Patricians know that his real masterpiece is Love in the Time of Cholera. Pseuds will argue that it's The Autumn of the Patriarch.

He would like to be called Gabo. I have read those three novels and i surely loved Love in the Time of Cholera. Do you remember when the Main Character, after talking a lot to the girl she liked via telegram he gets rejected the first time she sees her? its just so human, natural and real.

Critis hated The Autumn of the Patriarch but i really liked it too, its his autobiography in some way, the life of a sad old man that has sold the sea. I would be really happy to know what you think about it. Theres a lot of rejection in Gabo's book i think thats why i can relate.
