I'm almost 30 and have spent the last two decades with over 6 hours a day sitting down, and little exercise since high school. I also have stiff neck all the time.

I heard that back and neck exercises can be dangerous so I wanna know the best course of action to fix my posture and straighten out my back.

I weigh around 145 pounds at 5'9"

Start out by googling "posture exercises."

Also, fix your desk-- raise your monitors so you're not looking too far down at them, and make sure you're not craning your neck forward.

Practice rolling your shoulders back while standing, and get used to pinching your shoulder blades together, as this will help straighten out your back. I'm assuming you probably have muscular-related hyperkyphosis.

Also, fix your pillows on your bed so they're thin, and learn to sleep on your back.

Thanks a lot. What do you think about standing desks? I heard that standing for long periods can also be bad for your body but I figure it'll still be better than sitting. I'm gonna do periodic exercises either way.

And how thin should pillows be? Mine is about three inches high once my head is on it.

Get a $25 pull up bar, and try to do a few every time you walk past it. That's a good way to start. If you can't do a full rep, start with negatives.

What can be done about anterior pelvic tilt?

Yeah I already do have one of those and can do about 5 or so but I haven't used it for a while. Problem is mainly my sedentary lifestyle, and the havoc it's wreaking on my back and neck.

Weighted dips m'lady
>>

That's weird knowing that weighted dips harm the lower back while he needs to strengthen it.
I mean, something like Goblet squats, or even Sumo dumbbell dead-lift could help him more while working on his posture, as long as he does them right.

Goblet squats won't do shit. If you want a stronger back, dog points->planks->ab rollouts and hyperextensions.

Anything that involves grip strengthens the back due to I R R A D I A N C E, this is why pull ups and dips are G O A T. Deadlifts would also be a good all rounder.

Ah you're right, it works more the upper back. However, giving him some hip mobility and a better form won't harm him, right?

On another hand, you sure he's gonna be able to do dips, especially after 20 years of sitting on his ass?
