Thought I would stop by and share an interesting YouTube channel of a fitness enthusiast who does a 16-24 hour fasting routine where he eats one meal a day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vgvRhx2xPI
>>
>refusing to eat for a few hours more between meals
>fasting

Could this board be any less interesting?
>>
>>42819884
we have a decent number of people do 7+ days
>>
>>42819884
I did 3 days about a month ago. I'm 12 hours into a 7 day fast now. It's fun.
>>
>>42819884

Any period of time between meals is called a fast, idiot. This is /fit/ we aren't going to be fasting for months for e-cred.

I am here to do what works
>>
Just started fasting today. Weather is bad for outdoors gym, so I'm going to do some exercises indoors. Instant coffee tastes even worse than normal one.
Currently at ~73kg, 175 cm.
>>
5 days now, brehs, feeling like a god in human skin
>>
Day six of water fast, I now remember why I ate so unhealthy.
Being poor and having a narcissistic bipolar mother is a lot of stress.
>>
For those that are fasting, what are you supplementing with?
>>
>>42820040
No, fasting benefits occur only after a certain period of time.
>>
So apparently I've been fasting daily without knowledge for the last 2/3 years. My 145 lbs won't budge at all during this time. I'm just a little concerned about health issues. Whenever I break it and eat during the fasting my stomach doesn't seem to like it (constant rumbling, less solid shit). Have I fucked up up my digestive system or is it even possible to do so this way?
>>
>>42821106
Vitamin C, A and Himalayan Salt.
>>
will I lose body fat during a water fast?
>>
>>42821209
>Vitamin A
Fuck, wrong vit.
Vitamin D instead of A.
>>
>>42819409
Someone else feeling much more...balanced? Like I don't get angry anymore or upset about something, I'm just happier somehow. I also feel much more connected to this world, sounds crazy but I cant describe that feeling very well.

First 5 days were brutal, I was depressed and weak but after that...BOOM.

This is also a very good expirience for the mind, I don't know why no one is talking about that. You pretty much free yourself from that need to eat daily and as someone like me who loves sweet stuff, it helped me to free myself from processed sugar.

2 weeks water fast in.

Currently on my 3rd day out of 12, maybe 15-21 if I feel inspired.
Does anyone else take laxatives the first few days of fasting? I feel so uncomfortable and bloated with all the extra weight inside, and I want my weigh ins to be accurate asap.
>>
>>42821241
I've only ever done 3 days, but my mind always feels like this after the first day.
Unrelated to mindfeels, a lot of ice water will keep the hunger pangs at bay

>>
>>42823160
I got multivitamin + multimineral in one pill. Is that ok?
>>
>another day of IF
>having plain black tea with peppermint leaves as an herbal for "breakfast" just to warm up

Anyone else get super cold while water fasting or IF? When water fasting I was wearing a merino wool baselayer with my winter coat and I was still cold. IF is better, but only after I have lunch.

>>42821171
What type of fasting? Water fasting or intermittent fasting (IF)? IF wouldn't be a problem really, but breaking a water fast has to be done correctly or you will wreck yourself in some of the worst ways possible. What hours fasting and hours eating for IF do you do? Like I do 19 fasting and 5 eating, 19:5.

>>42821241
Getting away from those useless carbs really does clear your mind a great deal. Added sugar is one of the most destructive drugs you can possibly take that is fully socially accepted from birth. Simply getting away from it will help you feel amazing. One year I went 6 months without any sweetener/artificial sweetener of any kind. My chinup reps when stress testing went from only 50 to over 200 in a row. I literally couldn't get tired on my runs and one day pushed myself at the local track. I ran from dawn to dusk without stopping (friends dropped by to relay water to me.) However, that was nearly 6 months of sugar-craving hell. The mental aspect was terrible. I wish I never fell off that diet.

>>42823242
Most likely. It depends on what is in it and how much and how long you are fasting. Cross reference what you are taking with what is listed in the links in the OP. You'll certainly still need to eat extra salt.
>>
Are supplements (calcium, magnessium, w3...) really necessary for a rfl/psmf?
>>
>>42823270
>Most likely. It depends on what is in it and how much and how long you are fasting. Cross reference what you are taking with what is listed in the links in the OP

I read the OP and I dont see any list on what vitamins and minerals are allowed
>>
>didn't fast at all Friday or Saturday, giant fucking cheat day tailgating for sportsball
>back on it yesterday
>weighed myself this morning
>new low

Some of that has to be not drinking enough water but goddamn I'm still on track. I love 22/2
>>
>>42823492
It isn't about being allowed, it is about "you must have this or you're gonna get fucked up" type of thing. Those are essentially, "phosphates, magnesium and potassium" in order to prevent "refeeding syndrome". Though, that is rare.

Also, from the OP links for fasting and IF,

>I recommend a general multivitamin to avoid micronutrient deficiency.
>Here are the supplements I recommend everyone to take on a daily basis: a multivitamin, fish oil, vitamin D and extra calcium (unless dairy is consumed on a regular and daily basis).

You seem to be correct. I could have sworn more info on specifics was in the OP, but it must have been in one of the links I was researching for myself. Here's some good reads on the matter, particularly the paper:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2440847/

has anyone done deadlifts (prob 385 3x5) ~40 hours into a fast? only time i can do them is now (meeting in 3 hours and can't risk explosive shits from eating).
or should i just wait til my next opportunity to lift in 2 days?
>>
On day 2 of a (hopefully) 5 day fast, wish I could do more but I'm starting to have something of a social life and being the only person to not eat at a meal feels way too uncomfortable.
>>
>>42823623
I am mainly afraid of taking something that will fuck up my fast or at least autophagy because thats the goal of my longer fast
>>
>>42823753
Just stay away from carbs. The amount of filler in a multivitamin won't fuck things up. Chewing regular gum will.

>>42823742
>being the only person to not eat at a meal feels way too uncomfortable.

Life is centered around eating for most of western/western-influenced society. Normally, as entertainment.
>>
>>42823270
yes i experience the cold too. almost 3 days fast. 'normal' temp aircond in my office but im freezing. occasionally my coworker complained about the cold but they are skinny, not fat like me.

is this side effect of water fasting?
>>
>>42823949
body maybe is burning slightly fewer calories and making less heat in doing so.

you also may just be losing fat and unaccustomed to the new cold that you used to be more insulated from
>>
Just finished dinner lads. Starting 16:8 IF from this moment onward. How long did your first fast last?

Also, what supplements are recommended? I have CLA and green tea extract at my disposal.
>>
So I've been doing intermittent fasting for about 3 days now, and I like it but it is kinda tough. I don't eat from about 8 PM - 1 PM the next day, any tips to control appetite? I know about Bronkaid already just wondering what you guys do.

Sup boys, I have a question
I've done a 4 days fast about a month ago and I want to go for another one in these days. Problem is, I started working in a warehouse and it's kinda rough, I'm standing up and moving around for 8 hours and lifting/moving stuff.
Since the last time I fasted I felt kinda woozy I wanna ask if any of you had similar experiences and help with some tips
>>
Does anybody know what the name of the plant/herb supplement that's pretty popular here that you take while fasting that helps burn fat?
>>
>>42826183
Were you consuming a teaspoon of salt every day?
>>
>>42823722
I do them fasted once a week, but I go pretty light (265 5x10) and focus mostly on back exercises after. I would say you should be fine, but that's just my personal experience.

Can I just buy phosphates and potassium at pharmacy or something? I've got everything else covered, magnesium, salt, vitamins... But I can't find any info on those two. How much I should take daily during fast? I plan on doing 7-10 days.

>does eating food break my fast?

is it food or not
>>
>>42827237
Just like I thought then.

Today I worked fasted for the 1st time, don't know if placebo effect or the fact that the plain coffee had a greater effect without any food in my stomach but it felt good, more energy, more alert, etc.
>>
>>42823270
>breaking a water fast has to be done correctly or you will wreck yourself in some of the worst ways possible.

Fuck, I was thinking about doing 10 days or so water fast, but reading those links... How exactly do I break the fast safely? Can I take some supplements while fasting to prevent refeeding syndrome? Sorry for stupid questions, I've done only about 2-3 days max before...
>>
I've asked before but nobody really had an answer, guess I'll try again. I recently started hormonal birth control to regulate my off the chart cycles. Is there any concerns with taking hormonal birth control and fasting? I don't know how systems interact and I want to cover my bases since it already increases risks for blood clots, etc. I've been losing weight through dramatic lifestyle changes, but I'm ready to just drop as much now as I can, I'm not concerned I will return to my old eating habits or anything.

Is it possible to go into keto mode, while still maintaining 200g/day protein intake (all through powder)? I'm trying to easy into 24 hour fasting (1 meal / day).

Can I include plain yogurt (flavored?). This is what I have planned:

Breakfast:
2xPlain Yogurt (200 cal) + 2 scoops w/ Water (210cal) (84g protein)
Lunch:
2 scoops w/ Water (210 cal) (50g protein)
Dinner
Some ~600cal low carb meal with 70g protein.

From the videos I've been watching, I'm worried that the high protein intake will prevent me from going into ketosis.

>>
>>42829632
CICO works for a lot of people. It also fails for a lot of people. Fasting is easier imo, all you need to do is nothing. Also, if you OMAD or IF, you can slam a pretty big meal and not be worried about making it all fit together. It's not bullshit, but it's also not the only tool in the box by any means.
>>

CICO is paramount to successfully losing weight. Fasting is a great addition with both health and weight loss benefits, it's also relatively simple.

How does one water fast and eat at the same time?
>>
>>42828402

All of that protein will go straight to the liver and get turned to glucose

You need to be getting your protein from dietary sources, and realize that if you're going to do keto and IF, you will only need 1g/kg of lean mass of protein because your muscles will be in a protective state from the fasting

Mercola has an interview with D'agostino over keto, a good 30 mins is about training and watching your protein

D'agostino has a world record for squatting a cumulative 175,500 pounds over 24 hours while in keto, you can take your pick as to if you'll listen to /fit/ memers or strong men

The second link in the OP, the extended fasting rundown, is what you're looking for.

I would not recommend eating anything on a fast day because that's not a fast day, that's just a super restricted day. The moment you take in normal food (unless you're doing pure fat) you will begin to release insulin and back off on your HGH/epi release and completely halt autophagy for as long as it takes for the meal to digest and the insulin to drain out of your system.
A full 24 hour past will drop you into the sweet spot of autophagy and offer at least a 300% spike in HGH levels

good luck

I would actually recommend dropping the birth control while fasting, simply because the fasting should attack the causes of your long cycles. I don't have personal experience with this, simply because I haven't gotten much further than research and preparing for my second fast (I'd ideally like to fast for ~100 days or until ~20% BF) but my own problem cycle ended during my last fast (the last time it stopped actually), and even light exercise seems to have a positive effect on it. I've always assumed my problem cycle was due to my weight or undiagnosed PCOS (which fasting has reportably helped considerably), and ruled out most forms of birth control to regulate it simply because they had side effects that would contribute to the problem.

That's simply my two cents, and thought you might like to hear them. Though you may find it detrimental to have your body think (hormonally) that it's pregnant (since that's what most hormonal birth control does) when you're not putting any food in it.
>>
>>42819409
this might sound stupid, but is it worth taking a multivitamin without any food while on a fast?

Huh, mine only has small amount of magnesium. But are they really necessary DURING the fast? If I've understood correctly, you need phosphorus and potassium in order to prevent refeeding syndrome, that occurs when malnourished body is given great amount of carbohydrates after period of fasting. So, breaking the fast slowly and carefully should be enough, right?
>>
How do I tell my mommy I wanna go on a fast?
>>
>>42833716
If you'll notice, there have been many people in these threads who have caved in and broke their fast with things like massive amounts of pizza, burgers, etc. Even after many days. I'm not saying you are weak or will be weak, but if your body is already semi-prepared for refeeding then crashing the diet and eating a big meal will have at least 1 less consequence in store for you if you are taking a good multivitamin.
>>
>>42833759
Use the term "cleanse". I'm doing a, "water cleansing" for better health. Mommies are all into cleanses.
>>
>>42833759
>>42833765
This is so accurate its scary. I told my mother i was fasting and she freaked. I ddint care but she still did. Like a few weeks later she told me shes starting a detox/cleanse diet. That idiot ordered all kind of meme powders and stuff.
>>
>>42833761
True. It's obviously better to be safe than sorry... I have never really bought any supplements before aside from simple multivitamin, and since I couldn't find what I was looking for at first glance at pharmacy or general store, I thought of doing without. I'll keep on looking. 2-3 days fast is easy, but I guess there's no telling if my willpower is going to stay strong during a longer fast... At least I'm terrified of fucking up something in my body, so I'd think the fear of refeeding syndrome alone would be enough to keep me on the right track.
>>
>>42832425
I would recommend doing a 3 day fast over the weekend then going back to IF; I use to think I felt drained on 16:8, but after getting used to working out on OMAD and doing 2s and 3 days, any eating window bigger than 4 hours makes me feel like superman.

I would also recc starting to become keto adapted. Literally unlimited energy after 2 weeks of strict keto. I can do fasted 10 mile hikes because of it now

>>
>>42836586
you could overeat for a few days beforehand (e.g. at christmas)

I did a 24 hour fast 2 several days apart. i gained weight on one and stayed the same on the other. weighed 3 times each time. weighed several times throughout day. dont tell me its impossible dude it happened.
>>
>>42837881
Did you weigh yourself a minute after drinking 2 litres of water? Because then you "gained" water weight.
>>
>>42837922
It is literally impsosible though. Im assuming you did something wrong. What were you drinking? Did you move around at all? I mean just from taking a shit and not eating that day youd lose a pound or 2 in shit weight.
>>
>>42837922
Your weight should stay about the same if you only fast once or twice for such a short period of time.

Please don't weigh yourself every day and multiple times a day, that's not how bodies work. Weight fluctuates a lot and is dependant on so many factors.
Do it once a week and write it down if you want to see some sort of progress.

You remind me of my mom a bit, whenever she eats a meal she goes to weigh herself and curses about gaining half a pound again.
>>
>>42837927
>>42837945
>>42838003
Im just gonna try again soon. I suspect i had too much salt for water retention.
>>
>>42838023
Just remember to keep it going for a while to see effects on your body weight.

If you do 24 hour fasts, weigh yourself once at the beginning and once after you completed 5 of those fasts and compare that instead of doing it several times a day noticing almost no change.
>>

>There’s a very good reason for this decrease in appetite. As you start to break the insulin resistance cycle, insulin levels start to decrease. Since insulin is the major regulator of the body set weight (BSW) your body now ‘wants’ to go lower. In response, hunger is suppressed and total energy expenditure is maintained. So – appetite goes down and TEE stays same or goes up. Remember that standard Caloric Reduction as Primary (CRaP) strategies produce the opposite. Appetite goes up and TEE goes down. Which do you think will work in the long run?

>>
>>42839078
Yes, even more so than when fasting. This is because microbes/fungi build up more when you are not eating. The act of chewing food helps clean your teeth. Brush and floss your teeth. Use a wet wash cloth to clean your tongue, gums, cheek, under tongue, and roof of mouth.

If you don't, you can get wicked cotton mouth/Candida albicans/oral thrush as well as your breath generally smelling like feces.

>>42839456
Yeah, drinking the salty "broth" was terrible after a while. Washing your tongue helps. You can try tealess herbals. Just don't put anything in them like sugar/honey obviously and double check it doesn't have anything added like that.

What's the best method to begin fasting? Easing into a water fast via other shorter fasts? Starting from ketosis?

Can I operate a car while fasting? I see people mentioning dizziness and I don't want to deal with that considering driving is my job.

How do you adjust your routine? Less volume?

Will my prescribed TRT protocol make any difference?

Yes. I knew a women who died while fasting simply because her doctor was a fuck up and didn't have her taking electrolytes. She was getting muscle cramps, blackouts, and headaches really bad then went into a coma and died. The hospital got the shit sued out of it and settled out of court. There's also a host of other problems that lead to death because of improper fasting. Even when refeeding you can end up killing yourself if you do it improperly. It can be anything from congestive heart failure to shitting too death from run away dysentery.

Anyone have reports of how their IF is going for them?

I've been doing OMAD for about a month and a half now, weight is dropping like a mofo and it's a lot harder for me to feel drained; that combined with the keto have also cut down on my shoulder spasms enough to where I can start stretching.
Hoping to cut down to 16%bf and then start greyskull, I feel like I can pull it off once I get fully keto adapted

Pro tip: If you die from a couple hours or days of fasting, then your time was near anyways.

I have been reading most of the links in the OP and I have a question. While water fasting, am I supposed to apply the salt into the water at least once a day or drink water normally and every so hours ingest the water orally through my mouth / tongue?

I'm seeing a lot of different answers stating that the salt doesnt get into the bloodstream properly if its taken alongside the water.

Another question I live in Mexico and sadly we don't get any of that fancy Himalayan salt here because third world country. Is it okay if I stick with normal "sea salt" instead of the commonly used "table salt".

Link related is the sea salt that I frequently cook with and use.

Also I know that this has probably been answered sometimes now but what is the consensus about drinking gatorade zero calories drinks and the such?
ASKING FOR A FRIEND
OP here, I actually found another brand of "Light" salt that asides from having your usual sodium it aditionally has a slight amount of pottasium.

Would this work in a water fasting and to keep the electrolytes up?
>>
>>42826183

I did 7 days, worked a manual job carrying shit, just water no supps, got dozzy a few times just took deep breaths and paced myself, it's not like you're going to instantly die on the spot.

I would skip the Gatorade and yes that salt works as well
>>

Today she cooked nice stuff, too...
Is there a thread where I can ask for bodyfat estimate? Apparently I'm in upper normal value on BMI and according to pictures I googled, I'm around 20%.

Is it healthy to take multivitamins on an empty stomach? There are several multivitamins like Centrum and the such that must be ingested specifically after a meal or while having a normal healthy diet.

Anyone care to shed some light on this? Am I overthinking things and I should just not give a fuck?

Also should I take the sea salt water oraly or pour it in my water?

Thanks for the answer my mang.

You need to make sure it is the same one, they have a few types (Adult, Seniors, Kids, etc), not sure what is the difference between them, but their website has pdfs with this type of info: >>42828264

Also remember that "phosphorus" in those will turn into "phosphate" in the body.

>synchronicity

Yup. That is exactly what it is.

I'm now on my 6th day of fasting and my mouth and tongue is starting to feel really weird and disgusting. I've done long fastings before and after the 6th day no matter what it doesn't go away. What is this supposed to be? It is really annoying and I don't know how to stop it.
>>
>>42850442
Use a wet wash cloth and scrub your tongue once a day. Get everything off it. Make sure you are taking enough salt. Dehydration can cause that as well, which is compounded by not enough salt. You end up pissing out the water you are drinking and it doesn't hydrate you without proper salt intake. I also recommend a salt gargle to help with killing bacteria and such in your mouth. Just don't do it often or at least not with too much salt in the water. Brush your teeth well, but don't use a store bought mouth wash. The salt gargle will be enough. See>>42840147

Avoid. They have a form of b3 called niacinamide, which is slow release niacin. It inhibits free fatty acids from being released for energy .

butter in your coffe cant hurt too, doing fine for well over a year now, dont wanna miss it anymore

How does fasting differ from a normal calorie defecit?
>>
>>42851718
Your body switches to and maintains using a different fuel source for long term fasting.
>>
>>42851773
Okay, but how do the effects differ? Is it more effecicient?
>>
>>42851787
No, it is less efficient. Glucose is far more efficient, hence the weight gain and using it normally.

salt and Braggs apple cider vinegar
>>
>>42826183
I'm a mailman walking up and down stairs and often do 5 day fasts. The trick to not feeling really nauseous is to drink have salt with your water in the morning and apple cider vinegar with your water at night. Currently on day 3 of my fast. Gonna go for another 13 days since I have a wedding coming up and i wanna look slim as possible.
>>
>>42826533
as long as your body doesn't start using sugars for energy then you're okay. The whole point is get in a state where your body just uses fat for energy
>>
>>42826717
I can attest to this. Your body uses up any dead skin as energy . This is why no holocaust survivors or american prisoners of war had any flabby skin when they were starved for long periods of time.
>>
>>42830366
because you will barf it all out
>>
>>42852609
yes, but what is the cut off?

enough people have said it's true for me to believe it, but if it mean that you have to starve yourself to the point where you are in a hospital bed, then it's not really that viable

also, regarding refeeding syndrome, how important is it, really? I've done, in recent times, a 7 day and a 5 day fast, had diarrhea both time, and that was it - no pain or extended sickness

the last time, however, was a 6 day fast a few weeks ago, and I was waiting for the diarrhea, but it never came. Does this mean that only if you fast for a length that your body's not used to that you get sick when you eat again?

now I'm 5 days in and it is at least 5 times easier than the first time I went this long without food, so I don't know
>>
>>42826757
well, one thing i can say is that some people going on a diet assume that their body is in "starvation mode" when they eat less junk and eat salads for a couple of weeks

it turns out that there is a "starvation mode", and you can technically have a non-zero amount of calories while still technically starving, but it's very low. Something like 30 calories a day, which is literally less than 4 almonds. Most people in rich countries never reach starvation mode no matter how hard they diet.

OMAD*
>>
>>42852681
>>42830366
It is fine. You take it with food because some of the vitamins are fat soluble. You won't need those vitamins for what you'll be doing so you don't need to be eating anything with it.

>>42849609
Odd how that thread died already.

can i drink 0 cal/0 sugar energy drinks during a fast?
