Every time I do a few sets of pic related, I feel it working my abs. I'm inly moving my head and trying to isolate my neck as much as possible but there's still a stretching sensation in my core.
The next day and my core is so sore that I can't do any exercises that involve the core.
Why is this? Is this normal? If not, how to prevent this from happening?
as you move your head the mass by your head causes your core to attempt to hold your body together so you dont bend backwards

What size in inches is considered "big" for neck, assuming you are lean.

Well desu i have never performed the excercise and dont know the weight you use or whatever, but I think if its bothering you perhaps you could look into alternative neck factors or just train your core to the point you are no longer fatigued. 2nd way'll take longer but itll be the best of bothe worlds.

You're doing it wrong if that's the case. Barely hold on to the plate, it forces you to work with your neck instead of your abs
keep your whole body and head on the bench. don't let your head hang over the end like this guy in your pic is.
think of it as doing a neck crunch and not a neck situp. you odn't need to go back all the way past parallel with the floor

I don't hold on to the plate, just place my fingertips underneath it to prevent it from slipping off my head.

it works for me. i can feel my neck and it feels like it is truly isolated. try on the floor right now to see what I mean
Is it worth it to train neck when cutting?
i gained 1 cm or so in three weeks of bulking

You should train everything you are training normally as well during a cut. If you want to keep the muscles that is.
