my first time posting on this board
so go easy on me

TLDR
>im emaciated as fuck and need a recovery program

used to be fit, lifted often, played club rugby
then a few years ago depression kicked in and its been getting worse every year
i havnt been able to eat properly for over a year now
iv only been able to force about 800 calories into my system per day
sometimes less, alot of the time nothing at all
iv lost about 35% of my body weight since december

so i finally decided to give this depression a big old fuck you and signed up to a gym
thought i could just jump back into my old routine
but i spent 10 mins on a spin bike before i puked
my legs could barely carry me to a bathroom

kind anons, do you have any advice for me to simply gain some functional strength without feeling like death?

If you eat so little, I'd say don't do any cardio yet.

Until you start eating normally, just get used to the compound exercises (bench squat deadlift ohp pull ups). Try to increase your food intake little by little.

Don't do any cardio yet. You need to lift weights and focus on eating more everyday. Try focusing on foods with high protein as well as carbs. Fats are okay as well for ur situation but much less preferable. If you're having trouble eating try to focus on foods you like or calorie dense foods that will give you a lot of calories without eating that much.

i was just utterly shocked at how badly my body has degraded

but that sounds like a plan though, i need to up my intake somehow
so what, just a regular workout routine, but with less reps, less weight?

If say a regular workout routine with reps for hypertrophy (8-12) reps in sets of 3 or 4. Use whatever weight u can manage atm for that, but make sure you have to push yourself to finish your last set. Also take 1-2 min breaks in-between sets. The most important thing is just to make sure your eating more. When u wake up in the morning try eating breakfast very soon after waking up, this will start ur metabolism going and it will help in eating more calories each day.

Also, if you have trouble eating, you can increase your calories by drinking olive oil (go for extra virgin olive oil) with spoon. 1 table spoon is about 150 calories I believe.

But thats only if you have trouble eating. If you are appetite is fine, you don't have to do this.
