Swimming is nice, trains your lung capacity and cardiovascular system very well, also not too hard on specific muscles.
Have fun, 1.5k isn't really pushing it unless you go for time.
OP here, it was nice to swim again. just 700m today. i'll swim 800m or something next week. not sure about getting a bicycle, are bicycle machines at the gym fine?
