go swim for a solid two hours (not necessarily very intense), then see how you feel the next day. if you're short on breath and trying to breathe in fully feels very uncomfortable, then don't swim, otherwise go for it.

If you're hung up on the chemicals then don't even start thinking about the piss, feces, and sweat. Or do, and that'll convince you not to swim in public pools.
